I frequently re-watch this LP just for the audiovisual ambience. This game's soundtrack is seriously underrated, and it blends in really well with the deep blues and the contrast of dark and bright colours.
Oh the memories.... This was the first Space Quest game I ever played through. I still can't count the number of deaths that occurred during that time. Got to love the restore button. :D
Awesome. My first game on our family's first computer (Amiga). What great memories (although I swear I remember killing the terminator in the tourist trap's machinery above the store?). Thanks!
This game is one of my childhood memories. I was 12 when it was released, back when computers were relatively new technology and still something of a novelty. My dad took me along to an electronics trade show and let me go exploring while he did his thing. One of the stands featured a PC running Space Quest III, and amazingly, nobody was playing. Nobody else got to play either, as I was glued to the terminal for the entire day. My dad came to check on me a few times and brought me food (possibly a Monolith burger, I was too engrossed to pay much attention). I was still there at the end of the show, when the stalls were packing up. I'm ashamed to admit that, after countless hours of gameplay, I had succeeded in guided Roger less than halfway through his mission. 30 years and a few Google searches later, I was reacquinted with this blast from the past. I watched the longplay with a warm sense of nostalgia and immense satisfaction at finally seeing the conclusion of a story started three decades ago. Space Quest III is not only the grandaddy of point and click adventures and a comedic masterpiece, but a wormhole back to my childhood.
I used about a year how to figure out how to get out from the garbage ship.... once i figured that out the rest was a piece of cake. It all just felt naturally to me. What a great game. Great memories.
0:26 OOOHYEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!! 1:21 That moment, in this particular corner of time and space. It begins... 3:52 The chill junkyard music starts 32:19 Entering Monolith Burgers
I prefer the typing input, with the parser you could type natural language and it seemed to understand. It felt way more interactive than cycling through the walk and mouth and zipper icons. Not to mention the fact that the typing skill I developed playing this and police quest got me my first office job!
"Help us! We are being held captive by scumsoft on the small moon of pestulon. An impenetrable force field surrounding the moon. It must first be deactivated. It's origin is unknown to us. Scumsoft security is armed with jello pistols. We're counting on you whoever you are. Two guys in trouble
Starting at age 5, this is how I learned english as a second language. The different quest series, with a dictionary perpetually beside the computer.I'm glad I grew up with these games, instead of Point&Click games with voice actors.
16:00 Tinkertoys! I had a bunch of them as a kid :) I missed out on the Space Quest games. My cousin was into the SQ series, and I really liked Quest for Glory and Quest for Glory 3, Wages of War. Didn't have Trial by Fire or Shadows of Darkness, but the ones I had I completely cherished. Thanks for the upload.
peut-être un jour Gilles d'Antibes se souviendra de venir ici pour se rappeler qu'on s'était sacrèment amusé sur ce jeu durant une nuit blanche à cogiter pour le finir
wow the art direction in this game is amazing for its time including the 3d perspective. ..did the score seriously drop from 737/738 to 538/738 at 1:01:45 ? lol
@miatageekscott The guys from Infamous Adventures are doing that with Space Quest II and plan to release it in the following months. Don't discard the possibility that either them or another similar group (there's some of them around remaking these old Sierra adventures) end up doing the same with Space Quest III, although it doesn't seems it's going to happen anytime soon.
Played this on Tandy 1000, Amiga and a 286 DX with a Roland MT-32 hooked up. When I played it with the Roland hooked up I realized what I was missing with the other two. The music and sound was far superior with the MT-32.
Tandy sound and graphics was as good as it got for me for a long time. But 256k was my limit. Then I had a xt clone with 640k but it only had 4 color cga and no sound card. Wasn't until we bought our Packard Bell that I could enjoy these games as they were meant to be. The fights I got into my dad with over upgrades...now I can't run these games without emulation. What a difference 25 years makes
So was it just me that killed the terminator at the tourist trap by having him follow me up into the giant dragon, and I think him falling into the gears?
I wish they had remade this one into a point and click with better graphics, I played this at my cousin's house and got so frustrated with the text thing
Does anyone know a phrase that will let you know that there are detonators in the box? I tried many different iterations of "look in crate" but get nothing except "looks like an old crate".
