Thank you for sharing your insights, and thanks to your keen community for their insights too. Learning loads. Ps. Love the CBM pet in the background... Cut my teeth on one of those back in 1982.
Thanks, this was a usefull guide in the end. Very lengthy for an instructional video, but I guess that's the nature of reverse engineering during a livestream. :) I had some trouble using the cage-tool in gimp since it caged both layers at the same time. Not sure what went wrong there. I had to hide the first layer in order to cage the pasted layer.
7808CT is a STABILIZATOR IC Source FOR 8 Volt DC (So it is not a 5 volt source) For 5 volt you need 7805. There are a lot of types of ic ----> 7805,7808,7809,7812,7815,7818,7824... Another source that I like to use is LM317 (And you may go from 1,5v to 32v) BIG LIKE for your content!
If I can ask about a little board I have as a complete newbie on RE'ing a pcb, please? I have what I would call a 8 position encoder that is burnt, and I'd like to know how feasible it is to RE it to make a new one? I believe everything on the board is visible except for the values for 2 capacitors. Could someone contact me possible to help out with this??
I am not sure if you guys read the comments here but I have a question, Is it illegal to share my findings through the PCB reverse engineering such as the circuit designs etc. I have bricked playstation and I want to reverse engineer it to try and fix it. Would this be illegal?
No, it would be legal, but Sony has a long history of being jerks (and that's being polite) and suing folks that do this sort of thing. They know three things as they go into the court with you: 1) That you have every right to do this. 2) That they have orders of magnitude more money than you do. 3) That twelve ignorant people are always available to form a jury.
Americans are also good at acid etching or grinding ic markings, so are taiwanese, even like a 555 where supporting components make it blindingly obvious that its a 555 in astable mode .
I got the knowledge how reverse engineering of pcb done but sane time it's very tidious and lengthy too।instead you may have start to draw schematic starting from one side.though getting information of each part is also a difficult thing.i came here in this video just because i have small solar controller circuit ,but no information anywhere on anywhere on internet including RU-vid.so i thought,i should find some software which can convert pcb in. Schematic ,and i came here.i did the same ,taking zoom pictures though mobile camera.noted every parts markings and search in internet what's is that what you did here.but i hope there will be a hardware with appropriate software (may be there ) which can draw automatic schematics and parts number ,not only that but will tell where is the fault.just like a catheters insert in human to have internal photos of body 😅.but i hope ,it can be happened in near future.
This is addressed in the video. If it's 4 layers, often one of the planes is ground and the other one is power, so they can be more or less ignored. With more layers, you get into more destructive or challenging techniques such as sandpaper or x-ray.
CR? How about Current Rectifier. And have seen it before. I had it pop up on a board that I was reversing not that long ago. Edit: It is actually a Crystal Rectifier. Learn something new every day. :)
