I wouldn't have that 83 Morgan in an Accugrade holder even if it came back as a lower grade in a "better" holder. To my taste, Accugrade might as well be nonexistent. If it is going to be in a holder I want it in PCGS, NGC, or CACG - and I'll take my chances on the grade.
I’m thankful you crossed my 1903-O Morgan a few years ago from an ANACS holder to PCGS when you did. With CACG coming into being a year ago, I’ve heard with the strictness of CACG, both NGC and PCGS have also become more strict, and I don’t know if it would cross if tried today.
I went 0 for 3 recently with crossover, where I was sure at least 2 would cross. I really want the coins in PCGS holders because of my registry so I cracked them and sent them raw. I'm waiting on the results, but it should be an interesting experiment.
Now that 1883-s Morgan is a fun one. Kind of cool to see that old ACG holder actually (hey I remember that company, he said!) right up there with PCI, they didn't always get it wrong either! Too bad the coin in that holder looks so lackluster and scruffy. If it didn't look as bad, might be cool to 'nostalgia ebay auction it' in that very holder, see where it goes (with a reserve?) .The NGC retail price guide says that coins value is $1550 in MS62. So it's either, Crack-Dip-Submit, or as a possible alternative scenario, how about sending for conservation, then the grading? PCGS might play nicer if you were to throw that kind of money at the problem? Really comes down to what you are already into the coin for. Would be interested in hearing the follow up on that one, it's intriguing. Thanks. That Trade Dollar while initially nice looking, on closer exam just looks/ feels slightly massaged, though I couldn't really say exactly how. The blackness when angled certain ways that you had mentioned does show up on camera, but it's surface alteration seems more comprehensive than just a wipe. Curious.
Do coins ever cross over at a higher grade, or would that be an admission that the prior grading company is more strict? I’m talking about pure cross over, not cracking out.
Wondering how the YT metric works? Watched this video completely, but it shifted to another before I could give it the old thumb 👍. Came back to hit it but not knowing if I was harming the score? Thank you if you supply the answer!
Hi Ben, thank you for vlog! I guess crossovers are for those collecting only one type of slab? or do they think it will fetch a premium above the cost of the cross over?
If the crossover is a details, they need to be required by law to place it in a details holder, and not just send it back in a straight graded original holder
I have started getting my coins slapped so I have sent them to ANACS because it’s a lot cheaper. I figured that anything that was valuable, I could send to CAC to get a sticker. You are saying that is not the case? What do you suggest?
Hey Ben here’s a question: The Registry sets There is always going to be a group of unskilled wealthy “collector/investors” with huge pockets at the top of these lists. It must be incredibly disheartening for a diehard numismatist that’s a purist and history buff with a great eye to play this game only to wind up at #14 on the list. I’m at levels now I would have never imagined from buying $20 coins to $5,000 coins but would still get crushed. If someday god willing I were able to get to that tier then maybe I would like to play this game but until then what’s the motivation? I suppose I come from the play to win and not the everyone gets a trophy for completing the race generation
Ben, do you still have to pay the grading fee if it won't cross ? I'm assuming you do , makes sense you would..but since when does coin collecting make sense.
