With every dealer I've dealt with on Morgans, PCGS is far preferred. So i've crossed NGC, ICG, and Anacs to PCGS with varying degrees of success. I've also had success cracking out old green PCGS builders and getting a higher grade. Right now I've got an 1888-s Morgan in 64 that I'm convinced is a 65. Even if it got a 64+ it would be worth it.

I know the NGC and PCGS service, both are excellent for American currencies. Sometimes grid 1 or 2 points up or down. But I confess that foreign currencies are too flawed for authentication. There is a lack of specialized people in this area. I think they should really only classify American currencies. I've seen every encapsulation of Roman coins that make your hair stand on end, there are pieces that you can't tell if they are fake or real due to so much wear. But they simply encapsulate because it is an advantageous market. I am an ANA Member myself, and really in my opinion I don't find it interesting to have a coin sealed in an acrylic box, and I can't touch it and feel the whole story behind the coin in my hands. Coins have always been collected in this way, but suddenly from 3 decades, these firms started to emerge, in fact vision to really profit. I still consider and use the classic way to collect coins.

Hi Ben. I submitted those 3 coins early Dec. MS64PL MS65 & MS66. NGC didn’t have my coins for more than 24 hours when I saw them being sent back “did not crossover”. Three PCGS coins bought from 3 different sources.. When I contacted NGC the lady rep said “it happens a lot”. 24 hours they looked these over and sent them back. I guess the jokes on me. Before this 90% of my Morgan’s were NGC.

Great video. I'm looking to crossover a coin from PCGS to NGC, I feel NGC is the more reputable of the two when it comes to world coins.

As a former poker pro...I totally agree with your synopsis and the comparison is accurate...and honestly when they know what the other person has already said they're afraid to say what they really think...well said! Where is the best place to look for under-graded coins though? Anyone?

Excellent information. I like NGC’s edge view slabs the best, especially with a Saint double eagle. Hiding the rim letters and stars in my opinion, is a crime. In the case of a 1907 high relief crossover, you have provided me with valuable information. Thank you!

I specialize in Indian cents and my slabbed Indians are about 65% NGC, 25% PCGS, 5% ANACS, and 5% ICG. About 90% of the coins are MS. I think NGC does a better job on uncirculated Indian cents, for what it's worth.

Doesn’t cracking it out skew the rarity of the coin? For example, the same coin could be graded multiple times and impact the total number of grades coins. Thoughts??

This is a noted issue and probably will be until they develop an AI that photographs everything that comes in with identical light and can perfectly match a repeat coin.

Personally, I believe we have placed WAY TOO MUCH confidence in either NGC or PCGS. A coin grader with all numismatic certifications is a coin grader. Why does the market view to top 2 grading services to be king? I believe it is time for an overhaul of the grading system. We need a non partial computer generated grading service. Then and only then do you have a true grade. Thank you for sharing with the community

Being new to this hobby I think I would Agree, I'm seeing also a lot of videos were people are saying dealers who submit coins, tend to get a better grade than say, the a average guy who say submits like 10 coins on his or her own.

I just dont trust that NGC or PCGS will always do the right thing. It's all about the Benjamin's. The player who can stuff more money in theirs pockets, typically gets the deal. Others can form their own opinions. Not anti graders or grading. Just the corruption that follows. There is corruption and there is favoritism. No one can convince me otherwise

I had a Gold 2008 W 1/10th ounce Buffalo in a Anacs holder graded MS70. Sent it in too PCGS for a crossover thinking it would be an easier sell. Came back a SP69. Thinking it was more about refusing to agree with the Anacs grade because that would suggest that PCGS was no better than Anacs and under no circumstances could that be allowed to happen.
@josefigueroa3930
@josefigueroa3930 4 года назад
Did it comeback in the pcgs holder as sp69 or did they send it back with the anacs holder and they just told you in a piece of paper or email that they believed it was a sp69?

I've sent crossovers in ANACS & PCI Holders to PCGS. It's hit or miss it seems. Older ANACS MS66 1943 D Lincoln came back in a 67 holder. I sent two newer ANAC Holders with MS67's in on 1957D & 1958D. Both came back as MS66's by PCGS. Win some and you lose some. I do believe that older ANAC Holders do better IMO of getting the higher grade.

A Crossover coin if acceptable to PCGS includes the Crossover service fee plus a 1 percent "Guarantee Fee!" I haven't checked NGC.

Edward Lee Thanks - can you explain this for the viewers ?
@elee950021
@elee950021 4 года назад
With PCGS grading, a "Crossover" submission is one of 5 levels of service: Coin Grading, Coin Reholdering, Coin Regrading, Coin Reconsideration and Crossover. If the Crossover grade is equal to or better, based on PCGS's sub-levels of criteria that the submitter chooses, than someone else's holder (NGC, ANACS or ICG), then PCGS will charge their regular fee plus the 1% "Guarantee Premium" based on the value of the coin. If the coin does not cross, you will be charged the grading fees and the Guarantee Premium would not apply. In many cases, collectors and dealers pay more for a PCGS holder than another's so PCGS feel they can do so for the added value. To get the info from the horse's mouth, see: www.pcgs.com/crossover. Happy New Year! Ed

I have a PR68 1955 Roosevelt Dime graded through PCI (DGS). I won it in a lottery and the person who ran it claimed its worth about $100. Idk about that but im not sure if its worth getting regraded through either PCGS or NGC...

Isn't grading an educated opinion based on ana standards ? So technically the same standards but differing opinions with a company bias ? Values withstanding because obviously they are off brand thirs party graders ,how do segs ,pci, numitrust corporation, nnc , and global add up for grading standards compaired to the main companies and is icg better or worse than anacs? I still need an example of icg

Yes, opinions based on standards, that's a good way of putting it. I have owned nice coins in PCI, and SEGS holders...but generally I would stick with NGC, PCGS and ANACS. Those other companies are not reputable.

@@TheCoinGeek I am putting together a collection of off brand slabs just because it interests me, I know most of them are fly by night, con artists who take advantage of people . whish is the one issue I have with it, I want these off slabs yet do not want to support that behavior. it is a conundrum. I just have noticed those brands i mentioned didnt or dont (if they are current) give the automatic top grades like some do.

I lost confidence in PCGS years ago. I bought an '08 capped bust half from a well-known dealer. The coin was graded PCGS AU-53. really beautiful with full luster, it was in an older green PCGS holder. At the time, i wanted all my coins out of slabs ,so i cracked it out. I stored it in a safe-flip, so i know nothing would change the look of it. Anyway, a few years latter i decided to re-slab my bust halves. I was shocked when i found out it came back in a body-bag for "questionable color" . At this time i wasnt aware of the game of re-sending the coin until they get it right. So i latter re-sold it back to the dealer raw , at a $700. loss.....
@silvadelshaladin
@silvadelshaladin 3 года назад
They err so far on the side of questionable color these days. Old Dansco album color coins aren't questionable, but it is what it is. Toned coins with actual non-details grades are always dangerous to re-submit.

Everything you said regarding crack-outs and crossovers SCREAMS for a standardized, uniform, system of grading through a sophisticated computer program! Can you imagine the insanity of a world Series game, for example, being decided by the opinions of a half dozen different umpires all with varying agendas and prejudices? Well, that's what we have now. PCGS says the coin is a 70, NGC or ANACS says it is not! One guy says this is an obvious dimple, the other guy says "I don't think so." What a mess! To me my coins are too valuable to be left to the whimsy of some grader who thinks he's better than everyone else. YOU, Mr CoinGeek, and a few others are in a position to be influential in this endeavor. Why not pitch in to get it started? ! Just because the effort has been less than successful in the past does NOT mean we should all just give up and suffer the consequences of unjust grading forever.

Have you read your submission contracts carefully? Do you realize that all three grading companies will black list you if they detect a practice of “grade fishing?” Do you have a business license? Which state? If you are teaching people to commit fraud you are living on borrowed time.
