@5:00 What an amazing view! I've stood at that very spot many a time, 1,000 Island Lake is an amazing place to visit. The only way to one up that is to head south a few miles to Garnet lake, IMHO that is the Jewel of the Sierras.
84 days and still doing good loving it all. Nice video as usual. Peace and quiet of the wild is better than any concrete jungle. Praying every mile you walk. Doing great. Mosquitoes and all. Keep it north
Yeah ! New video ! So glad to see you enjoying the outdoors and doing it responsibly with good sense. People are such knuckle heads sometimes. Hoping for a continuing safe and healthy journey.
Glad to see you back on vid - I heard, on this morning's news, that hikers had to be rescued out of the northern California are and wondered if you were part of the crew - hope everyone is safe
So beautiful! Some day I will hike the PCT through Yosemite and climb Clouds Rest! Its just so beautiful. What a treat right? Happy hiking Starburst! Thank you for posting these videos.
Be careful of those rangers. Apparently, one of them power tripped on Bean Dip and Moonshine, and forced them to hike back into town for a day pass. Even though they were properly permitted. Glad you're having a great time. I've finally got my medical issues sorted that took me off the trail this year. I hope to do a large section of the PCT next year. I've only got 680 miles of desert left!
Thanks for mentioning the LNT about used TP...as hiking stewards of nature and a vlogger the message reaches more ears. Thats some pretty country throughout the island lake ya passed... I've seen so many places ,especially on the PCT, that I wished I could just set up camp for an extended stay.... But ya know there will be more such beauty along the way....Hike on ✌ 👣 👑 👑 Pretty sure that skeeter was full of your blood...the female needs the blood for her eggs.
Very nice Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly at the beginning! The blood from the mosquito is your blood, not the mosquito's. Insects' blood is called hemolymph, but doesn't contain the hemoglobin that makes our blood red. Awesome videos - I always "like" before I watch because I know they'll be good!
You are a huuuge inspiration to me! When do you think you will make it to the bridge of the gods at cascade locks oregon. I live close to that area and would like to meet you and ask questions. I am wanting to do the PCT! I will buy lunch!
I really like how you’re always looking at things. 1000 island lake is so beautiful. I would ask a lawyer about the mosquito blood thing just to hear the answer. I always burned my TP to make it smaller. That’s kind of rude to put bear canisters next to someone’s sleeping area.
You can also try to buy/order a bottle of permethrin when you get to town and treat your clothes, tent, sleeping bag, and everything else, that does a very good job at repelling ticks and bugs. Also for treating scabies, but still see a doctor for that one...
Hope that night went good. Looking forward to hearing what happened with the bears, if there were any. That is really bad trail manners for anyone to hang their food next to another campsite. I would have woken them up and asked them to move their cans.
A girl can dream...or have nightmares! LOL I'd have to shove 10 pairs of ear plugs in to keep from waking up at every little sound thinking it was a bear.
I used a backcountry bidet instead of toilet paper most of the time. It was much cleaner on my butt than using toilet paper, but I never got used to doing things that way.
Well that ruend my hiking hopes hiking out my used butt wipe really lol! Did they make you pull out your bag of ass wipes? Just teasing! Love you Starburst 🏕️=🐻=🍴👕💜💜💜💜👣
OMG, some people are so inconsiderate and unthoughtful. Hopefully you were able to sleep. Wish people would take better care of our trails and outdoor spaces and would be a bit more thoughtful. Thanks for sharing. Hike on.
Hey, when you need inspiration check out this video on You Tube-- Fight for Together: Trail Day 142. I think you'll find it captures "trail" feelings and help you through. All the best!!
Lol...'I 'get' to go over the Pass. Yep, that little change in thinking and speaking makes all the difference, doesn't it? I notice things go much easier once I switch how I think about challenges. Brilliant.
Island Pass is easy to miss as a pass.Thousand Island Lake view is awesome. It's your blood Sunburst. The first time I went over Donahue Pass it was totally covered with 40 feet of snow. Bears were not a problem then up that high, nor were the mosquitoes with all the snow.
Too bad so many people are lazy/clueless enough to pile food, even in bear cans, within the camp. That’s why I hate campsites. I make enough mistakes on my own, without being endangered by other people’s.
Even cheaper is buying a big gallon or more of the concentrated stuff on Amazon, and soaking your clothes in a 5-gallon bucket of the concentrate mixed with water. Plenty of RU-vid videos on the proportions, safety measures, etc. If you're an occasional hiker, I say go with the spray. If you are going to do a lot of hiking during the year, go with the concentrate. Just watch the RU-vid videos first.
Another beautiful scenic trek with vicious Mesquitos. Good for you as a spokesperson for doing it the right way, unless the bears get you, be safe, be alert, rest well, really hope there is a next episode, lol.
Stunningly beautiful scenery. Thanks. It's funny that there is such an aversion to picking up one's used toilet paper but some of those same people have no problem with picking up their dog's poop.
You can treat your own clothes with permethrin works awesome. I use it and it works. Awesome country... WTH with the bear canisters in an empty designated tent site... Guess they figured no one hiking the PCT in that area may want to use that site... Figures that no ranger saw that bull s#!%. Even if I had to hike all night I would have moved on. Beautiful video... Please stay safe with all the idiots out there.
Hike Camp there aren’t actual marked sites or anything. You are just supposed to find a place that has obviously been camped at a bunch. At least that’s how it was last year in that canyon. With the increase in traffic lately the rules may have changed. It’s tough to follow all the rules all the time: 200 feet from water, 200 feet from your can, only using previously disturbed sites. On the JMT superhighway, especially at peak season, crowds are part of the deal. You just do the best you can, and hope it doesn’t get worse.
Thanks for your clarification. Oh I understand. there are a number of rules that irritate me. One can only do the best one can... In that case I would move on unless I could not take another step.
Hike Camp the other thing you run in to at that spot is that there is no camping within a few (4?) miles of Tuolomne. So once you get to Ireland creek it’s starting to get to be slim pickings. I bet I camped in the same spot last September. It took me two days to do what starburst just did in one though. But camping at Thousand island was totally worth it. The sunrise photo I took from my tent is now a poster on my cubicle wall.
These videos are really remarkable. Thanks for putting in the time to create this work of artistry loaded with poignant experiences and practicalities.
I know it's gross but no one talks about how they pack dirty tp. I am guessing in a doggie bag tied with a knot and put in heavy duty zip lock. They throw in a trash can where its appropriate. Is that how backpackers do?
