Ash, the footage of you slipping and falling is priceless. I've re-watched it many times, and I giggle every time. Karma will probably come back on me for laughing at you, as I will be doing a SOBO section from Tahoe to Tehachapi in August and September. I hope a lot of the snow will melt by then . Keep the vlogs coming.. Happy Trails.

Another great video. I look forward to them. Glad you went to Lone Pine and got a look at the Sierra. I am a California resident and to still see all that snow in July is amazing. Love your enthusiasm and love of the outdoors. Happy hiking. Stay safe and keep making decisions based on what yiu are comfortable with doing. Sending good vibes to all of you as you continue your journey.

Wow❤ just wow 😮. And now the exciting prospect of bumping into Huck as he is now hiking SOBO 😊 Thank you so much for sharing your journey, so glad I found your channel. The PCT is more than I imagined and I can’t imagine what it is like to be actually there. Safe and happy hiking.

I bet your family watching from a far are happy you're flipping north past the Sierra's. I was relieved my daughter exited the Sierra's via Lone Pine. It was interesting seeing all the different tents. That last one had me thinking "yikes! What about mosquitoes!!" I've heard they're bad in northern California.

It is sad to see the Tramily split, but it would seem all have chosen wisely. Getting a taste of the High Sierra will make coming back later all that more exciting for you. Glad you finally got a hitch to Lone Pine -- walking all the way to the Owens Valley floor is nearly two miles of descent. (Owens Valley is the deepest valley in the USA!) Looking forward to your further adventures. Thank you for taking us along!

Omg…the first section into the Sierra looks so different ( melted) compared to when I went through back in mid May! And that damn road walk down out of the mountains!! It was still closed when I came down and we both had yo walk it- in a hail storm in the last hour of reaching Lavender Ranch. So glad you guys were able to get a hitch because it was demoralizing for us after a 12.5/hr day of hiking. Keep hikin!

You have made the right decision for you. I hope the snow melts and the rivers drop later in the season so you can return and enjoy the Sierra. Good luck with the flip. Stay strong and hike happy.

Loved this stretch. I assume your last campsites were at Cottonwood/Horseshoe Meadow campground. I'm not sure what date you were there but I'm glad to see it seems to be snow free. I had planned to do a little backpacking around Cottonwood Lakes in early June but postponed it until later this summer. Glad to see it's clearing little by little.

Was that camp in Cotton Wood Pass Trailhead?... I started my NOBO of the JMT there when i did it two years ago. Side note... Lone Pine and BIshop CA rock! I've spend many days in those two towns when I travel out to the Sierra from the east coast..... just incredible little towns!

Did you exit at Mulkey Pass or Trail Pass or Cottonwood Pass? I’ll be doing this section soon and would appreciate knowing. Good call on exiting the Sierra for now. Safety first! Happy trails!

So what was the intruder after in your tent...do you keep snacks or other smell good things in the tent with you? Wise choice skipping up to Old Station. The best of luck to all the teams!🍀

Sorry to see you quit the sierra's. Like I told you a 62 and 68 yr old guys made it to Bishop and beyond. If you skip to Reno you will likely find equally bad conditions there. Oh well, you're hiking I'm not. To be fair it's easier for me hiking from home than any of the actual hiking you have done. Congratulations on your hike so far and for always having a smile on your face.

Like you said I’m hiking, and if you where here you would know that rangers where turning hikers around due to avalanches and the age of the hiker is irrelevant in my mind, but Thankyou for the comment :)

I've just watched the few clips the Codgers managed to shoot going over Mather Pass. They had someone with experience in their group but the river crossing in the dark and the climb varied between extremely sketchy to absolutely terrifying. I've done a lot of river crossings and some snow and ice hiking but I wouldn't have wanted to do this without ropes and 2 ice axes! Ash, you certainly made a good call.
