I may never get to be this adventurist; however, watching your videos is inspiring enough to make me want to get out of the house [my comfort zone] and do something new! Maybe 5am morning walks like I use to do! Thank you for carrying the camera gear so we can be a part of your journey!
I have watched your channel for about a year from Palm Desert CA. This summer I’m traveling in Poland and Ukraine and was so happy to find that I can continue to watch you from Europe. No problem. Your hiking the PCT is such a highlight of my morning with coffee from my lake front hotel room. Being 71 years old, my hiking days are not so long so I see it all through you. Stay healthy. I miss my “Capone” Willie so I know...freedom to travel now, but at such a cost.
Wow, we were just thinking about getting a new sleeping pad. We have a thremolite one as well, and found that our middle aged bodies felt everything too. Thanks for the suggestion. I now have a place to start looking besides typing in the google, "middle aged sleeping pad". Gives me the shivers
The GG pack is a terrific design and I LOVE the giant side pockets. But, with big belt pockets I feel like I walking like an old west gunfighter....arms splayed out of a natural range. I do use an Arc Haul and got the Zpack belt pouches with it. Then came the old west style posture. I got some smaller MLD pockets and they are fantastic! Just my deal with hip belt pockets.
You have really inspired me. I can't wait to get a chance to put my dream in action. Praise God for what you have shared. I'm thankful for your time spent encouraging and advising. What you do had been free and does indeed make you one of the most selfless persons out there. What a blessing you have been in my life. Love to you girl. "Keep on trucking" ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏☕☕☕
Good for you! Great gear selection. So wonderful when you don't have to sacrifice your comfort. After a long day of hiking it's the worst to be cold. Can't wait to see more trail footage. Safe travels. We are here cheering you on.
I just got back from driving up Highway 4 to 395 and back to the bay area via 108, boondocking along the way next to the beautiful rivers. I saw a group of backpackers at the PCT and immediately thought of you. That was my first time taking my rv up 4 and back 108. What a gorgeous drive. You have so many great tips. Safe travels!!!
I'm really starting to like this girl! Took awhile but I've seen "almost" all your videos and somehow you mange to actually have very different and useful info, unlike most of the tubers who are just adding minutes to the account. You are the "real deal" and a true adventurer. Keep up the great vid's and you just got another hooked fan.
Thank you...I also agree with your question, but she appears she does not need any. I think she had been advised by others. All we can do is Pray that she will have a safe uneventful trip...
Smart choice for the tent. In the NW, nothing can be more miserable than trying to sleep while you are wet. It will make your trip more enjoyable, there will be enough hardships along the way, your tent will be your haven! (I so hear you on the choice of pad and bag as well)
Very appropriate gear Carolyn. Was looking forward to something on the trail this time. Watching for you all the time as I usually do. Be happy, be free, and be safe.
Tyvek rain skirt! Great idea!! Take a page out of the book of my ancesters and wear it like a highland kilt. Just pleat it, belt it and you're good to go! Good thinking, Carolyn!!
Hi again Happy Camper Carolyn ! I am really looking forward to all your videos on hiking and preparing for the PCT...Loving your honest and detailed descriptions of your gear. I am still dreaming of my upcoming mobile life. Wishing you Safe and Happy Trails !
Awesome info! Any chance you can share your resupply timeline/location matrix? Just a link not a video. I did all of California in the 80's. Need to finish WA/OR. Thank You!
I did not realize that I would love the PCT videos this much, it has inspired me and I am sure others to step out of "the comfort" zone literally and get me am sure others out there. (even if it is is just out to walk, run or whatever it is we are afraid to do or procrastinating doing, always inspiring us!) I have both my nieces watching your videos so they can see a strong, smart role model !!!
It's shocking how light things have gotten When I used to backpack just the essentials entailed a 65 pound pack and I only weighed 98 pounds I can't even imagine a 35 pound total weight. Oh how things would have been more enjoyable with that light of a pack!
You can return the red marker bled thing after you get back. They'll give you a new one, even after you've used it , it happened where you are not in their parking lot. You're not expected to stop your adventure and deadhead back to the store. Obviously you have to go back there later. NOT SUPPOSE TO BLEED. Paying out all that money!!!! REI/DICK'S Wherever they WILL REPLACE IT. ##### They've got the capital and lose nothing. It goes back and it's a gain back for the store. Believe me , they want to oblige you. There's no warning not to use a marker on it. Come on that was horrible you pay out a lot of money you put a little mark on it and it bleeds out and destroys the item and the look of it. Bring it back and get a new one 👍
You have planned every aspect of this trip. You’ve done a fabulous job at that! I’m sure many will find your wisdom useful. (I hike but not to this degree, camping is in my RV) 😆 God Bless
Alright Carolyn!! Once again a informative vid. It's always good to see you and that assures me your ok! Love the information on your gear. It gives me ideas if I should ever need a tent/sleeping bag. As always your in my prayers, you be safe out there!
If you can, could you do a comparison between your setup and one of the ultralight hikers setup? I think people would find that interesting. Take care of those hot spots before they become blisters.
Are you going to PCT Days in the Columbia River gorge in Oregon in mid-August? You’d really make some great video at this event! Plus learn all about products and meet a ton of likeminded outdoor adventurers
That sleeping bag looked so comfy. I have dawn filled blanket and I love...except when a cat throws up on it and I have get it cleaned 😝. Btw Capone will always be with you. Love you, chicky! Have fun and stay safe ☺
VANquished Dude - I can speak to this since I am an avid backpacker. This appears to be the 1443R Tyvek, (that is what I use) it is the thickness for the painters suits and good for making kites. This is what most people use. You can search in Amazon for 1443R. With that said, many backpackers use the thicker Tyvek home wrap, which is the exact same material, just a thicker weight. Personally, the lighter weight one gets softer quicker, and packs down smaller. If anyone is interested, you soften it by running it through a washer/dryer several times.
Love seeing your new adventures! Have worked on lowering my weight so I can maybe do an overnight or two. I have permanent weight restrictions due to back injuries. My pack is the biggest offender at 3 lbs but have not found a different one that doesn’t hurt neck and shoulders. REI was great in working with me to find this one. They put in they maximum I should carry and had me walk around the store for awhile. Would like to try zpacks or Gossamergear but very expensive if it doesn’t work. For now enjoying day hikes and following you on this journey. Trail on!
cindy hatch It goes under your tent to prolong the life of your tent floor. Protects from rocks etc. You can purchase tyvex from some place like Lowe’s.
cindy hatch, such as the bottom of the tent is referred to as its footprint, the term footprint is also used to explain other areas such as the footprint of a house or footprint of the RV, etc.

Hey, just a note: Get a Emergency Mylar Thermal Blanket ..... very light, cheap and will keep you alive/warm no matter the temp. Cost about $15 at Walmart for 20 of them as they are very fragil.....but could save your life. Enjoy the PCT .... AT is next, right?
