The PD Origins series is a chance to look back at some of Performance Designs innovations over 40 years of designing parachutes. At PD we're fueled by a love for skydiving and an insatiable curiosity about what's possible in parachute design.
In this episode, we're taking a closer look into the PD Optimum Reserve which was released in 2007 and is made from a 30 denier low-permeability, low-bulk fabric available exclusively from Performance Designs.

Thanks for letting young guys like me have great reserves. All my saves were under optimums, and its all I have in my rigs. I don't worry about needing a good reserve, and everything you say about it is 100% true, great parachute.

There was much talk of high speed, but it's not clear to me what about the Optimum is so good for high speed openings. Is it that it's stronger material and lines, or that it opens softer than others at high speed?...
