Last year about this time I was touring England with a Paul Simon tribute show, and the producers were kind enough to let me select a few of my favorites to play alongside the full album Graceland. This is one of those tunes, from Paul's eponymous 1972 album that had bigger hits like "Me and Julio," but I love this one because it shows what a fine guitarist Paul was and is.
Full Equipment & Techniques:
Guitar is a 2008 Martin DR tuned down a whole step - strings are D'Addario 13's and the thumb pick is a Golden Gate.
Recorded live in mid-side with a Vanguard V13 and an sE Voodoo VR2 into an ART Pro MPA II.
Interface is a Zoom UAC-8, Mixed in Pro Tools.
Engineering and mixing: Josh Turner
Filmed on a Canon EOS R with a nifty 50 in Canon's standard color profile.

About Josh Turner Guitar
Joshua Lee Turner is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer based in Brooklyn, New York. Josh is best known for his RU-vid channel Josh Turner Guitar, where he has been posting eclectic cover performances and original music since he started the channel in 2007 at age 15. Josh now tours internationally in support of his own original music, as well as with long-time collaborator Carson McKee, as the folk duo The Other Favorites. In August, Josh released Public Life, his second full-length album of original music.

Got that right!!! Just found this guy today but dang he brought Paul Simon from the dead!! Actually I just googled Paul Simon and it says Paul Simon died Jan 23 , 2022 so hows that possible seeing how its jan 21 , 2022? In any case this guy does Paul Simon proud!! Amazing talented young man

try playing that all the way through without a missed note. when you can do that, play it with the subtlety, authority, and attitude josh does. ok now sing to it. ok now add the pressure of hitting "record." if your math is right, you'll see that one take for him is a lifetime of work for most. amazing performance here.

@@RustyBrakes I've never once heard a recording from Josh that sounds bad. He used the Zoom H2 for years and made better sounding recordings than most people with thousands of dollars of gear (myself included). Give him an SM57 and a cheap interface and he'll make a beautiful sounding recording.

I am blown away every time. The musicality, the charm, the intelligence, the wonder. It leaves you gasping. It is astounding. Technical exactitude so precisely mixed with a sort of musical genius. I don't think I am exaggerating. Plus, lovely jumper.

Paul Simon is a hidden gem of a guitarist - he writes such great melodies and lyrics that people lose sight of how great a fingerstyle guitarist he is. I'll never see Paul this close up but when you play this song I can see what a madman Simon is on the frets. You do him great service, because you've got chops that don't quit. Great singing also. Thanks for this, a buried gemstone that most people don't play or hear very much.

I always come back to this tune. Something so profound about it. "Resonant" is an excellent word. It doesn't so much speak to a specific feeling but a way that a number of different and otherwise distinct feelings can feel.

As I listen to Josh's beautiful rendition of this song, I can't help but reflect on the awesome genius of Paul Simon who wrote it. I think Josh understands this perfectly well, and is one of the few gifted musicians with the talent able to honor Simon's legacy of music.

@@susanvan1672 I would look into the audiophile subreddit and make a post there (www.reddit.com/r/audiophile/ ). They would absolutely appreciate it. However be warned it is a public forum and someone might try to low ball you or flip it and make a profit. Definitely better than posting on facebook marketplace though, that's just a recipe for a bad time selling sentimental items.

I was fourteen years old when this album came out. Struggled to discern the full meaning of the lyrics at that age. I still sing them while walking our dog at 63 years of age. Consider it a great gift to have this music flowing they me. Nice job bringing this to life in a new way. Virtuoso. Paul would be proud.

I like this better than the original. Paul Simon's voice has a sweet, slightly feminine quality that Josh doesn't have. Simon's voice works for musing songs like Still Crazy, but Josh's slightly edgier voice captures the spirit of this protest song and the time in which it was written. Yes, it's a protest song.

Nonetheless, most videos are covers (which I love and I think he brings an originality to them) and I think with his musicality he must have an endless amount of songs he could write.

Fats waller one of americas greatest songwriters wrote such a body of work, though practically impoverished, so much so, many of his great songs he in fact had to sell and he didn't get credit. Despite his poverty he will always be remembered as one of the greatest and his contribution to music will echo through eternity. I really admire great songwriting and hope to hear more originals from josh.

I've been wanting to learn this guitar part since high school, now I might actually have a shot at it...thanks to Josh and speed control. I don't remember seeing even Paul himself ever perform this in public, and you can see why!
