How can you kill anything that flippin cute!? Human beings are weird.

Hunting an animal just for fur in order to make yourself look "fashionable" is completely idiotic and unreasonable. If you're a Eskimo hunting for seals for their meat and fur for clothing in order to survive, that's a different story. But Canadian seal hunters? They have nice warm homes and fireplaces to come back to. They only make coats for luxury, not for survival. It really shouldn't even be allowed, unless it's the natives doing it for survival purposes.

These baby harp seals are so adorable...I wonder what type of a heart and a soul any human should have, to murder them in such a vicious way, while stricking & clubbing them heinously. There is no such a thing as a 'murder them humanely'??? What humanity is left there if you murder and taken the life of another being? Enacting a permanent BAN on this barbaric slaughter of such innocent sealpups, has never been more urgent. Wake up Canada..it is time for the Governing authorities to seriously look into this issue and implement NEW MEASURES. Do the needful ASAP.

Im not a huge animal rights activist and I do eat meat and I wont give up eating meat, but... this is just plain cruel I wont club any cute baby fur seals at all. I know someone I would club with a 3 foot pole (*sealers*)

Synthedic fur is softer in my opinion and probably lasts longer. I wish I could hug one of those little guys.

1. Seals DO NOT end up being eaten. Not in a commercial hunt. Noone cares for their meat, it's all about fur. 2. In the Canadian commerical seal hunt, seals are killed in HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS. That's a bit different from individual hunters killing foxes, bears, etc., don't you think? Although I condemn ANY hunting. 3. Seals are TORTURED before they die! 4. I am a Canadian taxpayer. I want my money to go to schools, hospitals, wage raise, NOT this horror. Any further questions?

I've had a poster print on my wall for at least 20 years. It's of a single Harp Seal just like these, with 'wet' appealing eyes. Underneath, the caption says,'Save Us'. It's a very young baby as its coat hasn't even started to change colour! It's the first thing I see when I drive into my garage. I thought we'd fought the good fight and won it! Alas, no. I've written to the Canadian Prime Minister and publicized this action on Facebook.I can't watch the brutality! Too awful!

Same as in Sweden then (which is an EU country), here the seal hunt also takes place from boats, and on ice in the Gulf of Bothnia in the far north of Sweden, why is not any of that mentioned on your website? so seem to celebrate the EU alot for not importing seal pelts from Canada, but turns a blind eye to the seal hunts that actually takes place within the EU in Sweden, the Aland Islands, Finland and Scotland, can you answer this question?

@HSI It is illegal to kill a seal without a license. It is illegal for Commercial and Subsistence License holders to harvest whitecoats. Therefore, killing whitecoats is illegal not just selling the pelts. If a DFO officer found you in possession of a whitecoat pelt or meat you will be charged, they will not wait until after you try to sell to charge you.

I agree, every animal is cute during there first months. It dosent mean we all have to be vegetarians.

How are these seals worse off than any other animal that is hunted? shot or clubbed they end up dead and eaten in the end so why should i or anyone else care if the canadian government authorizes a hunt (aside from them being cute and fluffy in their early months).

They are not endangered, but they usually are still alive when they are skinned, sloppy work. I'm sure you don't support that at least, But fur is fur, but if only the adults had the white fur, the babies lose It after 10 days. If the killed the adults I would be perfectly okay with that, but the baby???
