i have made knives all my life, and i have to hand it to you, you are a natural talent. please keep up doing what you are doing and you will become one of the greatest

You inspire me, a great blacksmith.

Word to the wise as I’ve caught myself very badly doing, and seen many others cut them self, try to avoid holding the bottom of a piece of wood while splitting it with a hatchet. It is easy for the hatchet to accidentally hit your hand. I severed the tendon in my thumb and had to get surgery to reattach it. However, as usual, your video is a thrill to watch and you continue to make beautiful pieces of art. I envy your skill greatly and it’s wonderful to see other young men interested in this craft. I would like to start by saying great video :) both relaxing and enjoable. I would also like to give you some tips regarding some of things i saw in the video. 1. its always a good idea to clean the forging scale of the piece your working on, also cleaning the anvil. this is because the forging scale is realy hard (harder that many anvil faces). If you dont clean them you wil get dimpels in you work piece and also in your anvil an hammers, this wil cause significant wear over time. We already see that in the video. 2. you should probably not cut pieces directly on the anvil face as this will leave marks in the face as well, many anvils have a designated area called the cutting face specifically for that use. since yours dont, you can use a scrap piece of steel between the anvil and the piece to be cut and that way save the anvil. We can see at 10:40 the mark in the anvil after the cut 3 How do you define this as a viking knife? As far as i know there was no "viking knife" in the viking age as the different areas of f.eks norway had and have different tradisions of types of knife, how to wear said knife, and what use the knife had. Beautiful knife! Good things are made slowly, like brandy. I wonder if you could perhaps help me: I live in South Africa which was a Dutch colony at one stage. My home language is Afrikaans, which is closely related to Dutch. I have a hatchet of which I am looking for the origins of, where it was made. The shape is more or less like the axe you used in the video, just smaller. It has three markings on it: a seahorse, a torch (made of grass or similar material), three A's in a circle and an 0 or o (zero). The blade is also offset slightly, which could indicate that it could have been designed to skin bark off branches. The blade is 88mm wide, the head is 30mm and the full length of the hatchet head is 150mm. Can you perhaps help? Thank you very much! Velen dank, André Pienaar.
