Honestly, I could see this being used as a homebase for a mining operation. With the space it has, it could easily house the employees over the course of the operation, the food and supplies needed for said employees, any mining equipment needed, and any materials mined. And when the operation is done, just take off. And the hyperdrive means it could be deployed to a backwater world on its own and return home once mining is done

Honestly these things were wonderful sized to help out in fleets too. Put some quad laser cannons on it and it could take out fighters in compliment to warships.

I remember seeing it as a kid and immediately loving it. To this day, I still love most Star Wars landing craft, simply because how effective they were if used properly

There things are terrifying war machines. It’s always so lame in the clone wars tv show when they land and like 10 battle droids come out of them instead of dozens and tanks and thousands of droids like they actually carry.

For reference This thing is almost the size of a Nebulon B Yeah these things are way more more massive then one might originally think

I can’t stress the advantage of this ship as a mobile base. Even if Republic forces start to overwhelm your defenses you can just pack up shop and go to another area. Something that other factions don’t have.

I assume the smaller version we see in Clone Wars is just the difference in animation as these things still pumped out hundreds of droids

The engineering of this ship blows my mind. I know reference books have issues with scale, but considering how elaborate the mechanisms are, you actually start to believe it CAN hold that many droids & vehicles. Those little bug guys do NOT f*ck around.

It’s actually a very great transport ship that the Confederacy used very well all things consider as it was used to great effects during the Clone Wars.

one thing i relised as well with the wings being detachable what you could do is have more than one set of wings per transport that way you send off the first wave deploy all troops have the transport come back up and swap wings immedetly being ready for the second wave with out having to sit there and reload the transport each time

I was reminded of the Atreides transports from the David Lynch Dune film when I first saw these. With the command center deployed, it's like when the Emperor Shaddam visits Arrakis later.

This has always been one of my favourite starwars ships

It looks like the type of ship that would be a good crane, unless you want to use it as a barge to transport stuff, because that's something it would be good for as well as being a mibile hovering crane.

I'm thinking the organic crew was there to handle the complex part of getting all the vehicles turned on and safely deployed from whatever storage racks or positions they're in during travel. Potentially making sure everything is fueled up as well

I had no idea how big these ships actually were. Whenever we see them in clone wars, we only see a small battalion of battle droids getting out. So I thought that’s all they could hold

With the size differences, there's no reason there can't be a bunch of similar looking variants. It's already a solid concept, and it's purpose is just cargo hauling. As long as you have large enough engines and power plants, no reason you can't scale it up or down.

It just occurred to me that if one were so inclined this thing could be modified to be like a giant AC-130 gunship. Just strap on some anti personal/ anti vehicle lasers to all four wings with some concussion missiles for fun, and rip out the guide tracks also the nonessential components. Then add in some extra generators/ capacitors. You could have the most deadly gun ship in the galaxy. Evan a scaled down version of this would have a major psychologically impact on the battle field. This four pronged death machine just orbiting around a captured city, town, or just supporting advancing infantry with it's own guns pulse is vulture droid compliment fireing from high up were most republic weapons can't reach it. If it was real it would be as loved and hated even more than the AC-130

The improvement I personally would make to the disembarkment procedure would be a turntable that turns 90 degrees so four mtt's or four att's can deploy at a time shaving the 45 minute disembarking time to 22 minutes and 30 seconds.

There probably is a smaller version that transports less ground vehicles. Something like 20 tanks and 1 MTT. The normal sized C-9979 seems to barely fit in the hanger of a Providence class.

If you think about it, the invasion of naboo involved an insane amount of ships, like i dont know of a clone wars battle except maybe the battle of courasant, where so much tonnage was brought.

It would have been embarrassing if the Droid control ship had been blown up at the start of the invasion of Naboo. Either the first wave of defence fighters got a lucky shot (after spinning) or those two pesky Jedi decided to go after the main reactor instead of sneaking onboard a CR-99.

Can anyone here give a solid mathematical estimate on the composition of the Trade Federation's force numbers on and over Naboo, based on the available information and visuals shown on screen?

Could it simply be that the ship we see in the clone wars was a smaller modified variant? One major downside of the og trade federation variant is its slow time to offload does it not stand to reason that during the war the separatists designed a smaller variant meant for more rapid deployment. After all the later seasons don the clone wars we see MTT modified to deploy 2 squads of super battle droids instead of B1s the fire power and speed of separatists AATs seeem to have been increased from their TF predecessors as well so is it not much of a stretch to think the steps modified the C-99s as well? during season one of the clone wars we see this separatist C-99s being able to quickly offload 3 AATs and a battalions worth of battle droids under a few minutes

THE SIZES MAKE NO SENSE. I have been trying to make sense of these numbers for too long seeing as there are so many measurements of wildly wrong numbers. Even the numbers you gave at 5:11 are bonkers when compared to the pictures you gave. If we assume that the depth is 210m, and the image gives 274px, we can get a m/px of 0.766 timesed by the 139px in the height line you game would give an actual height of *106 meters!* The book at 8:21 however gives a solid number of 370m for a wingspan. Using the same math as above we get: 370m width 55m height 253m depth If we use your picture at 5:11 and have the assumed wingspan of 370m then we get: 370m width 62m tall 122m depth The measurements on the wiki are so far worse at: 370m width 150m tall 210 depth I have found a picture online which has top/front/side/isometric view of the C-9979 that has its height of *150m* (the wiki's measurement) which is so wildly different than the picture that I question their ability to see. Nothing makes sense, no picture is the same, numbers are crazy, and I am insane now.

At least in terms of the CIS, I'd want as many organic volunteers as possible, droids are OK, but they don't have the same capacity for abstract thinking and flexible tactics as organics.

If there's one thing EP1 got right it was the droid army, the sheer scale and matryoshka doll nature of their armies is great.
