Hey folks, just thought I’d try a new format, if you folks enjoy it I’ll make it a more regular feature. Not just for Warhammer related topics, but all manor of genres etc. Let me know in the comments what you think. Cheers
Yep, great format love the combo with a bit of lore , memory lane and painting. This might be a good USP to differentiate between other painting guides 👍
I like he Peachy goes “Please be nice these are 20+ year old models” and then he shows a stunning array of retro dwarves. For 20 years old they look better than some stuff I’ve seen
The best part of Painting Phase was your anecdotes, your interviews and the banter so really want this type of content! All clap for a monthly banter-episode together with Sugs!!!
Great video mate. Loved the reminiscing but also the backstory and the painting session was a joy. Honestly glad to hear opinions of various brands of paint. Especially as AK have a less than stellar approach to business so alternatives are always welcome.
I’m trying to remember why the tank wasn’t made. I think it was down to the powers that be thinking they wouldn’t recoup the tooling costs as it was much bigger than originally intended. It’s been a long time though and I could be conflating another project.
So hoping the Dwarf tank is something they bring back for The Old World. If they dusted off that funky looking Bretonnian Lord they can give us a Dawi Steam Tank!!!
Awesome video! I keep petitioning the comments section in Duncan and Sugs' channels for you guys to get the band back together and do a chill and paint video. No script/plan,,, just some paint, a couple minis, and plenty of tea!
Spoilers for the book Slayer: I could make the argument that Gotrek Gurnnisson was, and still is, the greatest Slayer in recorded Warhammer history as it was Grimnir who was the only entity able to "kill" Gotrek. Also, I have a bit of constructive criticism, while the music is great, sometimes, during the video, it's a bit overwhelming.
@@PeachyTipsDon't worry about it too much, video editing and streaming is a bit like that, you'll get it down to a science soon enough. Besides, the content carries through anyway!
Thunder hawk blue is very much a paynes grey to me. It is quite a magical color. Like the fang, and wild rider red. Could be two different colors, somewhere inbetween.
Thankfully, I've kept my dwarf army with artillery, gyrocopters, anvil, Long Drong's Slayer Pirates, thunderers, miners and hammerers. Mine were in a woodland (brown, green gold and silver) scheme.
@@PeachyTips haha it's all good. I was like "pipe down music this guy's talking Mohawk dwarves." Looking forward to more stuff. I really enjoy getting tips from someone who doesn't spend 3 hours on each miniature but still values a clean job. Cheers!
Mixing sound is a leaning curve. Always good to go away from the piece for an hour or a day and come back with fresh ears. You'll get the hang of it! Most importantly, great format, keep up the good work.
@@Katatoniaizationcheers that’s reassuring, in each video I’m trying to improve at least one thing, but yeah I’ll get the hang of it. Glad you enjoyed the format aswell ❤
Holy moly! The grudge Of drong sounds cool and conceptually awesome (dwarfs who still hold sympathy for the high elves). If you need ideas for videos down the line and do end up doing some battle reports/battle report like videos, one covering doing this campaign could be cool and give newer players the chance to see how old rules compare to the more modern stuff. Also the homage to Collin Dixon was lovely and names of people who make/made our wonderful toys need to be spoken more often!
Agreed, putting a spot light on the greats of the old days as well as the new I think is sorely needed. And when I get enough equipment together and my skills improve…..a grudge of Drong batrep style campaign would be ace
@@PeachyTips Great to hear and look forward to it or anything your passionate about really from the quality of stuff so far. The vibe the channels giving me so far is a mix Duncan's and Louis's videos in the best ways with your own uniqueness added that is made it very special so far. Wish you the best in your endeavours and good health!
@@Isabingusthat’s very kind of you to say, I’m certainly trying to make my own style, whether that be guides for the ‘everyday’ hobbyist like me or fun stories about factions. Cheers Peachy
Great video! I love this kind of extended chatting; it's great to listen to when hobbying or out and about. You especially have a great combination of personality, knowledge, and experience for it. One small issue for me (which I hope comes across as constructive!): I found the background music quite loud throughout and in the "Runic Items" section, the change in volume of the music throughout was a little jarring. Thanks again for a great video
I also found the music a bit distracting, something softer and less dramatic might work better for longer talk-focused videos, it was mostly during that one part though
I always thought the Dwarves should have a tank. I would LOVE to see this kit come out for OLD world. I never played Warhammer Fantasy Battles but the Dwarves always caught my eye. A big land fortress would definitely have me jumping in the deep end of Old World.
Khazukan Kazakit-ha! Love hearing people talk about their own connections towards certain armies, much appreciated. Shame about the tank, i think a troop carrier would be entirely fitting with the Dwarfs MO - I mean if the manlings can build one so can the Dawi!
Nice Video! Really like the mix of lore, your background with dwarf and the secrets from GW! Not really a person that watching painting guides, but having it later on in the video after you talk about Zufbar was a great choice. Made me watch it! This video eraned a sub from me!
Thanks bud, glad you enjoyed the style, wasn’t sure if putting a guide in would be too much, but I’m chuffed the story encouraged you to give it a watch Cheers and thanks for the sub 😍🙏😍
given anyone could read wiki entries, i like how you instead give cursory overviews to frame your own experiences. your perspectives and anecdotes are delightful
Yeah I’m super sorry about that, im still a work in progress with audio, well annoyed though as I spent a fair bit of time trying to sort that 😩 next time I’ll be better 👍
What a great in-depth look into your hobby journey! I never knew you were such a fan of the Old World Dwarfs! Thank you for sharing with us all! I remember I never wanted to play Dwarfs, but for some reason shortly after the release of Mordheim and using my Witch Hunters for a long time, I painted up a Dwarf warband to use at my local GW store and I tried painting them in NMM for the first time. They were so much fun to use, and I have such fond memories of them.
Please do more of these. Especially the Cobra Commander one. I grew up watching those old GI Joe cartoons with my dad. Awesome work per usual Mr. Peach 🔥
I love this format for you! The mix of retrospective and painting tutorial is unique and engaging, hope you do more with this combo. And best of luck with the new channel!
This took me back to when I started my adventure with Games Workshop and Warhammer.... 28 years ago... I used to have 6000 pts of dwarfs, they were my absolutely favorite army, and my first ever RPG character was a Dwarf Troll Slayer, back in the days of the 1st edition Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (the famous "blue book" with Middenheim and beastmen on the cover)... Unfortunately, several years ago I have lost almost my entire collection (90% of Dwarfs, over half on my Empire army, and several hundred 40k minis) while moving form one side of the country to the other. Unfortunately, a lot of these minis are not available anymore (aside from a chance encounter on ebay, but then they go for hundreds of Pounds/Dollars/Euros)... I miss my Flame Canon, Classic High King on Throne and Malakai's Goblin Hewer... But now, the Dwarfs are coming back for Warhammer Old World. Can't wait to see which classics will come back, and what new stuff we'll get :)
Watched your painting vids at GW. Watched your stuff at Painting Phase. Ill keep it going. Peachy Tips it is! Congratulations on the new channel. Excited to see what you do. Also, your old dwarfs are fantastic and still look pretty good. Cheers!
I have that flame cannon still in its box ! Plus a goblin newer 30 pirates and about 80 metal longbeards and hammerers and 2 dozen metal slayers Love me some dwarfs but the metal chaps more so.
Really enjoyed that format peachy..had it on while i was painting, listening to your story and then took a break to watch you do some painting while mine dried.
Super keen on the long-form lore/personal history/hobby work combo happening here. It's just what I've been looking for. One small note: the epic background music sometimes gets a little TOO epic for me and distracts me from your lovely narration!
Is waxing lyrical about40k dwarves acceptable too? ;) Very good video. Enjoyed it audio balance needs some work, as others have already mentioned. Would be so cool to see some pictures of that dwarf tank. Somebody somewhere must have some. Anyway, looking forward to more videos like this. Especially a Leagues of Votann one, if you have any insights into those :)
Incredible video, would like to give my thanks to you and Jeremy for creating The Throng Zhufbar, Which is the first Warhammer Fantasy army I collected and painted with colours and symbols based on the Zhufbar Army in the Dwarf Codex... Very thrilled to hear that you created that army and your journey as a Dwarf fan. bravo!
Hey Connor, thanks for the comment, and I’m chuffed to hear that some made a Zhufbar army based of the book, like me I know Jeremy would be proud 😍🙏 Cheers Peachy
Love the video peachy correlates alot with my start except actually buying the models, but I devoured the books and white dwarfs! I , alas, was a haughty high elf!cannot get the grudge of front book for love nor money at the mo! Finally, are you joining Old World revival? Its fantastic game
To be honest I have zero interest in Dwarves but I could listen to you talk to a topic you're passionate about all day, this kind of video is perfect for a painting session. The only bad thing about your childhood Dwarf paint jobs is that the barrels aren't drilled! 😉Hopefully the Dwarf tank will make a surprise comeback like the lost Bretonnian Lord on Foot did! The Zhufbar army is absolutely gorgeous, I love the scheme. I wonder how it would look on Stormcast Eternals, I kinda wanna get some but don't want to do the regular scheme, but non-metallic colours look strange on them to me...
We have Dwarf Gyrokopters and Gyrobombers and the humans have Steamtanks, so I think there could be room for a Dwarf tank too. I know I would get some if they were ever released. I really like the colorschme of the Zhufbar Dwarfs
I don’t generally care for the older Citadel models but the Dwarves have a lot of charm & character to them. One minor complaint about the video, I personally found the music too loud in some sections while you were talking. Other than that, it is a great video.
Like the format, I have a 1500 pointv6th Ed army I painted when I joined staff. Want to get them out expand and refresh. Still holding out hope we get a unified dwarf force in AoS led by Grugni and tank would be a great fit for that.
Solid work as always, Peachy. I've grown an extremely fond appreciation for Fantasy over the years, so listening to these old tales and my surprise that you had a hand in some of their design in 8th is super inspiring!! Would love to see more videos like this, keep it up buddy!!
Cheers, I found just talking about dwarfs really got me super inspired again with the faction, so I suspect at worst I’ll do a small force at best a reimagining of the Zhufbar army, just for nostalgic reasons lol
I've been struggling for a colour scheme for my Dwarves, I started a Cities of Sigmar army end of last year, got a bunch of Fyreslayers too, and some Kharadron Overlords from the Stormbringer magazine, I love your scheme so... I'm going to steal that ;)
@@PeachyTipsSounded fine to me, but I know the problem well, the music always sounds quieter in Final Cut Pro than it does once exported on my own videos.
This was fun - more old world than The old world. Your twenty-year old army is great, much better than my more or less contemporary, long suffering Nurgle warband, alternately led by my Lord Vhortek (I always hoped he'd do as much damage as a Vortex grenade) and Lord Dogretch (oh dear). Shooty armies were their bane - especially Dark Elf repeater crossbows. Should've gone with dwarfs and artillery.
I sympathise with that Chaos force, I once had the bright idea of going full melee, no wizards, no fast cavalry, just slow warriors….terrible idea 🤣🤦♂️
Dwarves were my main army some 40 years ago. I only have my Throne of Power left from it, the one with four dwarf carrying the throne. I t was great to see the old figures again Peachy.👍👍😉
My first book were the Undead couse i allways loved skelletons, second was dwarfs couse when i was young i allways wanted to have a mighty beard ( but naturesaid noo XD ) and Skaven were my third book and last year i bought my dream army with a lot of the really old skaven minis, great video peachy really loved it :D @@PeachyTips
Hi Peachy, love this video! Seeing you old dwarf models and listening to your lyrical waxes, ace! Some feedback, music during the War of the Beard section could be a bit loud at points making it difficult to hear what you're sayin :)
I'm really into Dwarfs as well, but never played WHFB. I got back into the hobby through Leagues of Votann - really like the range. Would like to hear what you think about the Votann as well.
@@PeachyTips about 10 years ago I went on an ebay crusade to collect lots of old metal dwarfs, so I have a full unit of those hammerers - as we dont have kids my partner refers to my collection as 'the kids'. I was a big fan of Colin Dixon's sculpts and Mark Gibbons dwarf artwork (which you used in your video). After I heard of Colin's passing, I named my latest BB dwarf team the Dixon Destroyers - they are doing him proud in our local league :)
Dwarf tank would make a lot of sense if it came out as a part of an "army in a box" type of deal, similar to tomb kings weird crocodile dragon. A centerpiece model to sell the box and a great addition to the army, since dwarfs don't have a "big" model lika a dragon or some other monster
After all you comments on your old minis as I expecting something a lot worse. The minis I painted as a kid were terrible compared to those. Great video!
