@@whoroborous Have a look through all the main characters filmographies, and you'll see at least one more *Bradford* filmed production, from practically every single one of them. Some of them must really like *Bradford* the world's first *UNESCO City of Film,* as people like *Charlotte Riley, Paddy Considine, Charlie Murphy, Kate Dickie,* and *Sophie Rundle* have all filmed between 3 and 6 productions each here. The same goes for most of the main cast in things like *Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, Happy Valley* and *Emmerdale* obviously.
In the uk there were all sorts of sandwich spreads mostly fish or shellfish spreads ie. fish paste, crab paste. They all more or less the same, I don't recommend.
One of the funniest things with my best mate in London, growing up was when I had some sandwiches and saw to my horror that they were Fish Paste. My Mate asked for a sandwich and when I said "No" he snatched one and bit into the fish paste and recoiled in horror. 20 years later and he still reminded me of that time:)
@03:48 A "quid" is another term for the British pound. Looking at the charts 1 pound sterling would exchange for about 5$ USD back in 1900. Using another inflation calculator for USD from 1913 to 2024, 25$ USD back then would be around $800 USD today; giver or take a lot of room for error.
"Children are dying. That's a succinct summary of humankind, I'd say. Who needs tomes and volumes of history. Children are dying. The injustices of the world hide in those three words." Deadhouse Gates Steven Erikson
3:49 Okay, I'm a nerd so I just did a short search for an inflation calculator. Okay, I'm pretty sure the transfer rates for the British Pound and US dollar were very much different back then and throughout the years, so I had to use 2024 transfer rates. Five quid inflates to £187.53. With that being said, with 2024 transfer rates, the Peaky Blinders were offering the equivalent of (in today's money) around $240 to that guy to be a stand-up... Imagine dying for a gig that only pays $240...
@@TheLevitatingFleemYep she sure is and she's an incredible actress!!!!!!! You should most definitely watch her in her role on the television show DCI BANKS, she was unbelievable!!!!!!!
@@TheLevitatingFleem They met on the set on *Wuthering Heights* (2009) by *ITV* written by *Bradford* author *Emily Bronte,* and filmed in *Bradford.* *Charlotte* has appeared in at least 5 more *Bradford* filmed productions such as *Spanish Flu: The Forgotten Fallen* (2009), *DCI Banks* (2010-2016), *Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell* (2015), *King Charles III* (2017), and *Peaky Blinders* (2013-2022).
@@HonRevPTB *DCI Banks* is mostly filmed less than 2 miles from me, just like most of *Peaky Blinders.* The car chase scene which involved *Charlotte* was on *Sunbridge Road, Bradford,* the same road where the *Police Station* is located. *DCI Alan Banks* also walks in the same footsteps as *Tommy Shelby* in locations such as *Bradford City Hall* which is used for 7 different things in *Peaky Blinders.* Both shows also filmed in *Little Germany, Bradford* although none of the actual heritage streets were used in either of them (from what I can remember), they just used interiors. They used one building for *Tommy's Factory Offices* and they used another building for *Chief Supt Gerry Rydell's Office* (which I worked out myself by looking out of his window at the unmistakeable architecture). However you get a brief glimpse of the street entrance when *Jessie Eden* arrives.
My grandfather said he earned 47¢ an hour in 1945 after he came home from the war. He told me this was good pay. He also said he paid $9k for his house and $800 for a new car. There was one time the river rose and flooded the town. My grandfather "borrowed" a semi from the steel factory where he worked, drove it through the flood and rescued my grandmother, my mom and her sisters. His boss later told him he would have done the same. A different time, I guess.
21:50 - as much as I love Polly her reaction here just shows how much the local gangsters don't care about their underlings..."is that it? Can I go now?" Harold Hancox was just a vulnerable young kid who probably got involved for the money...just shows how dangerous it can be! The one time you get involved could be the last thing you do! Rather heartless of Polly I think... Arthur did the same this episode...however at least he acknowledged that paying the mother a weekly allowance wouldn't ever replace what he took... Arthur, I think, is the one Shelby with the biggest heart out of all of them! I just hope Paul Anderson is ok and will be fit for the upcoming film! It was bad enough losing Polly! We can't lose Arthur too! ❤❤❤
Something that’s crazy is that Finn Cole (Michael) played basically the same part, but transplanted to California in the 2010s, in the show “Animal Kingdom.” He plays the younger nephew who is in high school when he is reunited with his crime family uncles and grandmother, and his trajectory in both series is very similar. You would never know that Cole is British if you only saw him in “Animal Kingdom.”

'Breaking Bad', 'Stranger Things', 'Peaky Blinders', Fleabag' & 'The Bear', which is about to begin Season 3. That is a lot to take in. My favorite reaction videos of all the stuff you have done though is 'Succession.' That is the one that first brought me into the channel.

3:11 - this was a REAL THING BACK THEN... the illegal bookmakers had men "stood up" to be arrested to help the police officers make their quota of convictions...
3:48 - I used an inflation calculator! 😅 £5 in 1922 would be worth about £356 today...and with basically only the essentials to buy back then it was indeed A LOT OF MONEY! The average steelworker made about £5 per week so he would get paid £5 for sitting in a cell essentially... Based on quick research mind you so I could be wrong! 😅😂
13:20 - I've never heard this actress's name but she easily delivered ONE OF THE BEST SCENES IN THE ENTIRE SHOW! She was absolutely phenomenal! She deserves more recognition 💯
@@mynameisnoonesbusiness4488 after the snake pit I assume, but I'd disagree, Ivar and Ubbe carried the rest, the final season was disappointing tho imo
The guys who produced the series didn’t release a single episode in a whole week and you just watching and skipping the whole episode do it is mind boggling to me honestly at this rate you gonna take a couple of years to do the show completely
