Peaky Blinders Episode 1 Group Reaction 

They didnt escape through tunnels, they were in an infantry unit attached to a tunneling unit of the Royal Engineers that would dig tunnels under no mans land to attack enemy trenches or artillery. Tommy was their sergeant major.

It's set in Birmingham which is the second biggest city in the UK and also the birth place of the industrial revolution. Most of the city was industrial at the time.

The name “Peaky blinder” comes from the the name of their hats, which were called Peaked caps. The blinders comes from an old term referring to men who were dapper.

Before y'all get the wrong idea from some of the commenters. This show is completely ficticious. The Peaky Blinders gang did exist, but that was back in the late 1800's. They were a small time street gang in Birmingham. They never fought in the WW1. No they didn't have razor blades sewn into the peaks of the caps. The safety Razor blade hadn't been invented when they were around. None of them was called Shelby and they weren't brothers. two of them were arrested for stealing pushbikes, one of them was arrested for breaking and entering (burglary). However, this show is probably the best drama you will EVER watch, and has won many, many awards as have the actors. Enjoy the show, you will, just don't take it seriously

Glad you guys are watching this. Definitely one of my favorite Mob/Gangster series. Also if you guys finish and want something similar. I highly recommend Boardwalk Empire.

The Peaky Blinders were a real gang from the era in Birmingham. Sewing razer blades into clothing was common for gangs of that era. There was a gang from up north that were known to sew razers into their lapels so people couldn't grab them there without seriously injuring their fingers.

I always enjoy the way this tv series still surprises people, taking them for a ride. Outstanding cast, and script play. A hidden jewel in the midst of mediocre tv. No offence, but these series surpasses a lot of things out there. Happy for everyone who gives these series a try, no regrets afterwards. Best to you all.

This is months after WWI ended. End of WWI was 11/11/1918

It’s also based on a true story there’s a lot of gang violence ect in the uk since the early 1900

The Peaky Blinders is the name of the gang. They sewed razor blades into their “peaky” hats and would blind people, cut smiles, cut out tongues and cut off ears with them.

This show is in my top 3 of all time. It just gets better and better please stick with it 🙏 8

OK so I thought I'll try and share what I think and know as a pretend know-it-all :P 1. The horse thing, it's not a steroid powder for the horse to race faster. Without wanting to spoil, it's a superstitious thing that's part of their culture. Same with the full moon comment. You'll come to understand as you get to know the Shelbys. 2. The show is set shortly after WW1, literally like 6-12 months after it ended which was Nov 1918. The impact of the war on society and humanity is a central theme of the show 3. IRA - the Irish Republican Army. Their history is rich and deep and complex, and still relevant to this day, peaking with the Troubles from the 60s to late early 90s. My basic understanding of the IRA's birth was right after WW1 in 1919 when the Irish Volunteers turned on the Crown after volunteering to fight in the war for the British army after being promised things that the Brits never delivered (go figure). i think knowing a bit of background on the period that the tv show is set against really enriches the experience!

Communism wasn't as taboo in those days as it is now - the world didn't have the weight of western propaganda, Soviet misinformation and history behind it as it does today. Back then, socialism and communism were synonymous with workers rights movements, at a time when workers were little more than wage slaves.

How can you guys have any chance of understanding what is happening when you constantly talk throughout the show and over the dialogue

Motor bikes them no more than £50 each,also the bosses had it made at this time British economy was the richest and workers treated worst so union agitators got to work and big strikes ending in a mass strike country ground to a halt ,the way US treats workers it could hapen there they feared revolt after ww2 hence Churchill put out NHS etc

Low key a tv show you should watch that so much an anime like stien gate and you have to give a few episodes to see a few twist to go wow everything starting to come together a show on Netflix called dark live action it from Germany watch the original language on with subtitles it live action and their dubbing of live action is awful not a lot of people have reacted to it but it has a fan base and you most likely would not get copyrighted from it just in the fact it not going to get million views it on Netflix and is good
