If you are curious about the time between Season 5 and 6, Season 5 was pre-covid, Season 6 started filming near the end of lockdown. (This is also why the Billy Boys are mostly absent from Season 6, because Covid Restrictions meant they could only have so many actors working on the show)
During the pandemic I didn't care I just wanted the new season to drop. With hindsight I honestly wish they had taken their time to improve the script because this season is so poor in comparison. Like the acting is still top tier, but the plot and side plots are so bad.
It was brutal in between these seasons I think it was well over 2 years in between. Helen McCrorys passing definitely altered how this season was originally wrote and planned.
Yeah i was curious if you knew about Polly before recording. It's a sad shame she passed away from Cancer before filming for season 6 so this story line allowed them to transition without her in an explainable manner. RIP to Helen. She owned that role that's for sure.
THREE YEARS!! The season was meant to start filming in 2020 but Covid happened. Helen McCrory sadly died so the series had to undergo a major rewrite. When filming restated covid restrictions forced more rewrites as a limited number of actors were allowed on set. Also a lot of stop and start of production due to staff covid illness. For these reasons the series seems a little disjointed and hurried but it's still one of the most compelling dramas on television.
Tommy shooting the pigeon in the pub was a reflex from the war. Messenger pigeons were used to communicate, so soldiers started taking out pigeons every time they saw one.
At 27:00 the Romani words being used roughly translate to kill the little girl or death of the little girl and Beng means devil. So the two meaning we can guess is " The Devil will kill the little girl" or "The daughter/girl of the Devil will die"
@@shrutig-g5w i actually don’t think so. i feel that if polly lived, they would’ve went a different route. including micheal’s story. polly being killed off in the show is micheal’s biggest ambition to kill tommy. had polly not been killed off, i think the story would be completely different. including who the main villain is. i always thought the original villain before the rewrite was either gina(without micheal’s knowledge) or some big family reveal on gina’s side that we never got to see.
@@azzert2 Imo Michael was always meant to be a traitor, and he would've still been a villain since he was already heavily influenced by Gina. Polly would've just been torn between both sides. She would've ultimately picked a side and prob died because of it - which would've been more dramatic.
Guys, Helen died in April 2021. They had already started shooting scenes for season 6. They reshot some of those scenes after she passed. She apparently was keeping very busy on several projects including a stage production she was doing, and had told very few people about her illness so as not to influence or effect the show. Brilliant actor. Only 52 yrs old. Tragic. R.I.P.
Yes the actress who played Polly Gray passed away from cancer during the shooting of this season. This season was also shot during covid so there was a lot of things they had to figure out. The crew, actors etc all decided to honor her in the show so when you see them watching funeral that is their real emotions as they are saying goodbye to her. She was very much loved by the cast and crew as well as anyone who worked with her. Genuine one of the best to ever do it. May she rest in peace and the memories she created never be forgotten.
I feel he is the least intimidating person. Finn frightens me more and he is a dumbass. I feel trying to make him a player instead of just an annoyance wad only due to them having to rewrite.
Did you watch the Queen's Gambit!? It's a miniseries with Gina's actress as protagonist. It is one of the most brilliant show I've ever watched. I highly recommend it to you😊
At min 2 you say you aren’t sure what that is about, he’s a gypsy and has deep spiritual beliefs that originate from gypsy culture which relates events to symbolic events.
Another brilliant reaction. You guys said you're sad that the show is coming to a close, but I'm also sad that your reactions are coming to a close! So good to see you both so invested in the show + with such great analysis. I've watched the show through twice (once in real time waiting between seasons + then rewatched it all together just before this season was released to refresh it in my mind), but you guys bring new view points and ideas and it's great to 'share' the experience with people who really enjoy all the good things about this show. Thanks for your great work.
In previous seasons we think we're seeing Tommy on demon time being violent and ruthless and even volatile. But the moment he sits at a bar and orders a glass of water we realize if old Tommy was on demon time, new Tommy Shelby is about to become Satan himself
Helen was one of my favourite actresses. I remember seeing her as a child in an episode of Dr Who and just fell in love with the way she held herself, her facial expressions and dialog. She did an interview here in the UK on the BBC just before she passed away and she looked so, so poorly and weak, but kept smiling and laughing. When she passed away I felt numb for a month and I balled my eyes out knowing she was in that third bag in this episode of PB. The send off for her was beautiful. I would recommend watching Penny Dreadful just for her. She plays a villain to perfection!
Helen Mcrory was an amazing actress. Yes! The writer said Helen was not replaceable and they can’t recast it She was such an effortless actress. Her passing hit hard 💔
It was a 3 year wait from season 5 to season 6, and then being a fan in Canada, having to use a VPN in order to watch it each week as it aired in the UK 😂😂
I remember watching this episode when it came out, and I sobbed. The pain and grief on each characters face with the passing of Aunt Polly/Helen McCrory was real. A final goodbye. She was my favourite female character in PB. So poignant. Rest in peace Helen❤😢❤
Cillian's mother was a French teacher so thats why Tommy speaks the language so well 😊 That he manages to speak with a Birmingham accent is a credir to his musical ear!
Apparently, Michael thinks he's playing chess with a chess master and is winning. Unfortunately, he hasn't realized he's playing checkers, and will always be six steps behind, instead of 3. Ambition is a dangerous thing, if not tempered...
Highly recommend Taboo written by Tom hardy and his dad, as well as the Steven Knight who created and wrote Peaky Blinders. Show stars Tom Hardy as the main character in 1800 England. Came out in 2017 but due to scheduling conflicts and than covid the second season was just written this year and should come out by next year. I’m rewatching season one and it’s great
@@mattseaton3521 not sure about that. Possible. I just know they both speak very highly of each other and i can’t wait to see what they produce with season 2
2:33 it was hell we had to wait 2 and half years and we lost of our own mid way filming this season so there was so many theories on if Helen was going to be in the show or not. Also watching one of the scenes happen in my local town of Bolton at night was amazing to watch, seeing cillian act only afew feet away from us but the whole of the street boarded up. So you couldn’t see jack shit. You had to get one of the bins and sit on it to see what was going on.
Just imagine the season we could've had. They had barely started production in March 2020 when everything locked down. By the time things opened up again, Helen McCrory had passed. They had to completely rewrite the season to account for her absence and post-covid filming restrictions. If the writing seems to suffer this season, that's why. All things considered, I think they did a decent job, but I can't help but wonder about the story they originally planned, with (among other things) Aunt Pol alive and well throughout. I bet it would've been spectacular. Fuck cancer and fuck covid-19.
Fun fact. That French island you could pronounce was actually filmed at a harbour in Aberdeen Scotland. The company I work for provided security for it. Unfortunately was too far for me to travel.
Apart from the impressive accuracy I'm not sure if you know why Tommy shot the bird. It was an alarm, someone released it so that other people outside of the tavern would know the people in there were in need of reinforcement.
Waiting for season 6 to start sucked and then to find out the actress who played polly died of cancer explains why they had to write the season the way they did I wonder if she lived how this season would have been what tragic loss of a great actress.
It’s been confirmed it is coming out. Idk how I feel about it. This is my favorite show ever but a movie could either be an amazing end to the whole thing or could turn into a dumpster fire. There were rumors about spin offs and prequels etc which I think would ruin everything. Hopefully it’s 1 movie, the final “episode”.
@@justinpeck6015 I always have an issue that when things do great they continue to suck it dry by adding more seasons and more movies etc. one of the things I respect the most about Steven Knight is he understands this and that is why he refused to do another season even though the ratings were through the roof. Shows like GoT, lost, the blacklist, etc. too many seasons, you get lost in the writing, you get lost in the plots and side plots etc. so I hope for one amazing final episode movie and that’s that. It’s my favorite show by a mile, so don’t get me wrong I would love more, but I don’t want it ruined
