Just one thing. I think Why Charlie Brown, Why? actually did a great job on the topic of cancer...and how to handle it and certain situations (you go Linus!) but the only thing that’s a little strange is the fact that if you have leukemia, you are more prone to getting an infection or a disease since your immune system is affected, so going to school is not the safest thing to do when you have serious Leukemia. Janice needed chemo and lost her hair, so she had it more seriously.
I liked Why CB Why, too. I'm sure I picked my own Top 10 on your favorites video. I always liked A Charlie Brown Celebration. My 2 favorite stories on that were the one where Charlie Brown is in the hospital and Schroeder gets his piano swiped by cruel Lucy.
I enjoyed all 3 of your videos on Peanuts. You should do a video about the other kinds of Charlie Brown products like the movies and documentaries (like “This is America, Charlie Brown” and “Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown”
“Charlie Brown’s All Stars” was not popular. It was the second one made, and it not only got poor ratings but reviews were negative as well. CBS threatened to cancel all further specials if the next one wasn’t as successful as “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. Thankfully, the next one they made was “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”, and the rest is history.
have you seen the "your not elected, charlie brown" special? Its not as good as some of the other specials, but I always enjoyed watching it every year after the great pumpkin
I love Why Charlie Brown Why? It shows what children go through and Linus reading that bully, Lucy, and those two sisters the riot act! It's an excellent story both sad and happy. As a cancer survivor, it was a good story. So I disagree, with this so-called "dishonorable mention."
There is another special which I say falls into the good side. That being my personal favorite, I want a dog for Christmas Charlie Brown. It may be one of the late specials. But don't let that stop you from watching it. The main reason it's my fav is because it has my favorite as the main star. That being Rerun, Linus and Lucy's younger brother. He also appeared in happy new year. It's filled with funny moments. Plus at times you just wanna hug Rerun. It features gag from the comics too. Mostly Rerun being on his mom's bike. I like his school moment as well. That scene features my second favorite character, The Little Pigtailed Girl. (she doesn't have a name) One other scene that's a crackup is Rerun saying younger brothers learn too think fast. So yeah, special is good and among the better holiday specials. What do you think of the special?
Something else that should probably mentioned about "Why, Charlie Brown, Why" is that cancer was a personal experience for Charles Schultz. He lost his mom to cancer when he was in his twenties, and he would ultimately die of a form of cancer about half a decade after the special was released. He was even hesitant to pursue it originally because he was unsure anyone would want to see it.
You're right! Crap, that was one of the bits of information I meant to include. I think I accidentally edited that part out from my script. Sorry about that.
What bugs me about "What a Nightmare, Charlie Brown!" is that Linus doesn't appear in it. A Peanuts special without Linus is like Transformers without Optimus, Kung Fu Panda without Po, Speed Racer without Speed, & Pirates of the Caribbean without Captain Jack Sparrow.
It was really more of a Snoopy vehicle than anything else. The most horrifying part of the special was not of Snoopy's mistreatment from the sled dogs. It was where they fell through the ice and drowned! And Snoopy was about to drown with them!
I remember buying a VHS copy of It's the Pied Piper, Charlie Brown when it first released. I was gutted by how disappointing it was. I agree the adults look like they belong somewhere else, like Schoolhouse Rock or something.
@Indy Borgnine I think I did see those once upon a time. I don't think I'll ever review them though. On top of being too off-color for my channel, works like those don't really lend themselves well to reviews or lists like mine. If it's not made by an professional animation studio or something, I can't really critique it fairly.
@@planetaryiam954 I know, I found my ways, It's just kinda sad, only way to see comic strips in Croatian for example, is if I want to buy monthly collection of many comics for 11 kn ($1,78) which doesn't seem to much in american standards, but for one comic strip that you actually want to read is just too much. From films, only thing translated any way in Croatian is "Peanuts movie" (Croatian: Snoopy & Charlie Brown: Peanuts film), there aren't even any titles in Croatian if you want to show your kids some classics like "Charlie Brown Christmas", "It's the great pumpkin Charlie Brown" etc. It's kinda sad that only Snoopy is recognized, my dad thought that Charlie Brown is British.....
The only way you can watch the Super Bowl special nowadays is by tracking down a VHS copy on eBay or some other antique store, or in bits and pieces on RU-vid, because the licensing issues with how and when it was made caused it to be the ONLY Peanuts special (alongside Why, Charlie Brown, Why? for a while*) to not be re-released in any capacity officially, in this case, due to copyrights with the NFL. *When Apple TV bought the licenses to stream and broadcast Peanuts specials, WCBW was one of the many recovered, restored in a previously unseen remastered quality. Previously, a certain Peanuts DVD compilation includes it, but its quality BARELY being remastered. There are 29 original Peanuts specials on Apple TV’s lineup, but the Super Bowl one is missing.
10:14 it wasn't that he lost to a girl. Linus had feelings for Melody Melody (as he seems to do for every girl he meets in these specials) and he partially entered the contest to impress her. She never said that she was entering the contest herself and so the fact that she won in the end was a slap in the face for Linus because he thought she was cheering for him but instead was competing against him, which also means his feelings for her were unreciprocated
For some reason wasn’t getting the notification about this new video, but I’m so happy you made another Peanuts video! Keep up the good work, this channel is quite the underrated one.
Thanks! You're not the only one with that problem, I think. I don't get notifications about comments these days. I have to physically log into RU-vid to see if there are any new ones. So, I'm sorry if my responses are delayed or if don't see your comment.
It’s cool. Also, like I said I eventually would be able to in the comments of the Railway video, I think I finally have enough that I can start donating to your Patreon! It’s not much, but it’s what I can manage. I just really enjoy your content.
I'm sorry to find out that "Charlie Brown's All-Stars" wasn't successful, coming as it did on the heels of "A Charlie Brown Christmas," although it's understandable that it would be overshadowed by the wonderful "It's the Great Pumpkin," arguably the best of the lot. Those original voices were the best, too; you might say the downfall began when Pamela Ferdyn started doing Lucy, sounding like a child actor (which, of course, Ferdyn was) instead of a child. Even when those early voices didn't read a line right to punctuate the joke, they made up for it in authenticity. I always liked Paul Reiser's joke about Jewish holiday specials: "Let My People Go, Charlie Brown."
Doesn't this narrator sound so much in a low-mood, like he could be Charlies father. Hey man - liven-up, Trump will be leaving the White House real soon
I do recall seeing that one some years ago. I thought it was OK; not the greatest special nor the worst in any way. Just one of those middle-of-the-road ones, you might say.
I’ve never seen Peanuts on Nick but bits here and there on other channels, but now Apple TV stole them... well good grief ( and I liked the way u ended the video hehe)
Thank you for talking about 'Why Charlie Brown Why'. This answers my questions about why you didn't have this on your list. I do like your opinion about it, as it is a special that deals with a serious subject (like Cancer) and does it very well. In my opinion, 'Why Charlie Brown Why' is a masterpiece in the Peanuts franchise. As I said in my comment on your best Peanuts special video, Janice is an amazing character who I wish appeared more in the franchise. Linus was a force to be reckoned with in this special, definitely one of his highest points in the franchise in my opinion. All the emotional scenes still hit me like a freight train, even after I watched it for the first time several years back. Every second of the special is just awesome to me. It's without a doubt a top 5 Peanuts special for me, right up there with the holiday classics. And although I've never had cancer before (and I hope I never do) I can't tell you how many stories I have heard from people who have had it before. It's without a doubt a scary and life threatening disease and I'm glad people are figuring out new ways to treat it. Linus was so sweet to Janice in this special and I just love the three scenes where he takes Janice's defense and stands up for her, especially when he wrecks the crap out of that bully. An absolute masterpiece in the Peanuts catalog, and another one of Schulz's best works in my opinion.
Here is my top 5 fave Charlie Brown specials 1:a Charlie Brown Christmas 2:it’s the great pumpkin Charlie Brown 3:it’s the Easter beagle Charlie Brown 4:your not elected Charlie Brown 5:a Charlie Brown thanksgiving And if I could count the peanuts movie in here then it would be number 3 and the others after that would drop down 1
Actually I kind of liked "What a Nightmare Charlie Brown". Granted, it is far from the best Peanuts special, but I kind of liked the scenes in the honky-tonk, and when Snoopy becomes the alpha male of the dog team.
ANOTHER EXCELLENT Mini-Documentary! (A "SPECIAL THANK YOU" for Closing with Rod McKuen's theme for the Motion Picture "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" ... It ALWAYS Brings Tears to My Eyes...)
Hi great video. I was watching your Railway Series video and I noticed you were talking about the book “The Island of Sodor it’s People it’s Places and it’s Railway’s” and I was wondering how you the book
I was not able to get a copy of that. I have a feeling that it's out of print, but I'm not sure. The only information I was able to get were some general summaries about what it covers on the TTTE Wikia. I do have "The Thomas the Tank Engine Man" by Brian Sibley, which helped me quite a bit in making that video.
this is my list 10 you're the greatest charlie brown 9 a charlie brown valentine 8 it's christmas time agian charlie brown 7 charlie brown christmas tales 6 a charlie brown thanksgiving 5 i want a dog for christmas charlie brown 4 race for your life charlie brown 3 it's the great pumpkin charlie brown 2 a charlie brown christmas (even its movie it still counts in my opinion) 1 the peanuts movie
How close to Super Bowl 28 did "You're in the Super Bowl, Charlie Brown" air? Was it the same day, week, etc? Did it air on the same network as Super Bowl 28?
I see where you're coming from. From what we've seen throughout the Peanuts franchise, Charlie Brown & Linus are like brothers who always have each other's backs.
Hey man great video, but with all this Peanuts coverage you’ve been doing I’m wondering, will you ever get around to reviewing the Peanuts Movie? Specifically the 2015 film. Also I want to recommend a video essay called “Why peanuts doesn’t feel like peanuts” It’s a great video that compares the comic strips to the actual specials.
The feature-length Peanuts films (not just that one FYI) have been requested by others. I was in the process of creating a review of the 5 that have been released currently, but, in the process of transferring files when I had to get a new laptop, the script for it became lost. It was incomplete, but now I need to rework it completely. So, I still want to try my hand at it, but it may take a while I'm sorry to say. Hang in there!
It’s a mystery Charlie Brown is hands down my favorite and the ones where they go to summer camp were always really fun too (I think there’s 3 along with race for your life)
I'm not sure. It'd be kind of a lengthy process to making that and I don't know if the end result would be all that good. Thinking back over what I've seen of the 5 Peanuts films, I don't know if I have very strong opinions on all of them. I don't want give an outright "No" as an answer to this question. There's just a bit to think about before I decide if I can or not.
