It was emotional to see Jeff and Stone playing this song. I cannot imagine the memories they went through. And Matt singing during the intro, and Mike in the solo, and Eddie... well Eddie is so incredible. Thanks, PJ for this.
27 people are very effin stupid! you have no taste and you need to learn what passionate singing from your heart and soul really means cause this man brings it every fkn night!!!!
Chloe don't know better Chloe is just like me, only beautiful A couple of years' difference But those lessons never learned Did you know? Chloe does the tables in the French Quarter She's always been given So I can't always make her laugh But I'm proud to say And I won't forget The time spent layin' by her side The time spent layin' by her side Dreams like this must die And a dream like this must die Dream like this must You ever heard the story of Mr. Faded Glory? Say he who rides a pony must someday fall Talkin' to my altar, say life is what you make it And if you make it death well rest your soul away Away, away, yeah, child It's a broken kind of feelin', she'd have to tie me to the ceilin' A bad moon's a comin', better say your prayers, child I wanna tell you that I love you but does it really matter you? I just can't stand to see you draggin' down again, again My baby again, oh, yeah So I'm singin' And this is my kinda love It's the kind that moves on It's the kind that leaves me alone Yes, it does And this is my kinda love It's the kind that moves on It's the kind that leaves me alone I used to treat you like a lady, now you're a substitute teacher This bottle's not a pretty, not a pretty sight I owe the man some money, so I'm turnin' over honey You see, Mr. Faded Glory is once again doin' time, oh yeah And this is my kinda love It's the kind that moves on It's the kind the leaves me alone Yes, it does And this is my kinda love It's the kind that moves on It's the kind that, it's the kind that, it leaves me alone, yeah Like a crown of thorns It's all who you know, yeah So don't burn your bridges woman 'Cause someday, yeah Kick it, oh yeah And this is my kinda love It's the kind that moves on It's the kind that leaves me alone, yeah This is my kinda love It's the kind that moves on It's the kind that, it's the kind that, yeah, yeah Baby, I said com' on, com' on, com' on Com' on yeah I said baby Don't burn your bridges woman Don't come back here I said good times I said tu tu tu
Always thought Eddie said he would play a song from Mother Love Bone only once, and only one song. (Which he did at their 10th 'anniv' ) Cool to see het did it again :-)
I agree Andy was amazing and most certainly the reason PJ is what they are today. I loved MLB, just something about the way Vedder sings this particular tune makes me love it all the more....but I love it to begin with because of Andy.
I think the passion Andy put into the song (in the original) was inspired from whatever it was about. Whereas the passion and emotion here is Pearl Jam paying tribute to Andy, not to mention what would be one hell of a moment for Stone & Jeff too.
R.I.P Andrew Wood R.I.P Kurt Cobain R.I.P. Sahnnon Hoon R.I.P. John Baker Saunders R.I.P Layne Staley R.I.P. Ben McMillan R.I.P. Mike Starr R.I.P. James Atkins R.I.P Scott Weiland R.I.P. Chester Bennington R.I.P Chris Cornell One love to all the surviving musicians that made part of the GRUNGE SCENE, thanks to them we still hear good music.
The death of Andy wood had a different impact that of Kurt Cobain because Kurt was a success when he killed himself. Wood died when he was about to become great. This song haunts you more than any Nirvana song in my opinion.
Tears. You know Andy is so proud. As we continue to lose our beautiful angels that made up the Seattle sound, I’ve grown to appreciate Pearl Jam and Eddie more . He honors Andy, his song for Layne, omg . Stay well guys, keep carrying the torch for this magical time in all our lives when all the greats were still alive and making us smile, providing our young lives with the best soundtrack imaginable. Thank you 🙏🏻
You can tell Eddie has the proper reverence for Andrew. It’s so obvious that Eddie is moved by singing these songs, it’s beautiful. I’m sure Andrew is proud watching.
@@sammich7141 One door closes and another one opens. It surrounds us. Just look around. Woods' death definitely provided the fertile soil to create one of all-time greatest bands.
@@jamiekeers9120 Entire album Come Bite The Apple is phenomenal man. MLB was off the charts great. Especially for the how early they were on the Seattle scene. So so great!!!
This song is difficult for his voice, especially the intro. He worked hard to make this beautiful tribute to Andrew, I believe that Ament and Grossard must have been happy.
He might have been better able to sing it 10 years before this show, but I don't think he (and maybe Stone & Jeff) was emotionally ready, Eddie in the sense of "getting" Andy's legacy, Stone and Jeff in the sense of having lost so much when he died.
You could see it. It was killing him at the beginning. But once he found himself again. Eddie opened up an let those lyrics roll. Such a great song an the emotion trying to sing it for a audience. I tip my hat to you sir.
@@rockstar_79 Grohlski! As a gen xer, I love Grohl but he is no longer a "great " due to his arena rock style. I still listen to foos every so often but less since seeing them live. He's introduced many things that weren't what it was all about. To this day PJ remain true to it. The rawness of Nirvana is long gone. Kurt would be fucking rolling...
shit man that's deep. Seeing the Pearl Jam guys and Eddie do this song must be very emotional for anybody who knew Andy. Hell I didn't know him , just a huge fan of his. but wow what a great cover and awesome moment for the PJ boys.
Chloe portion - only time can recall EV nervous or altering his own style in order to pay proper respect. amazing work. saw live from the side. glorious
yeah he's fully going for that Andy vocal sound 100% on the Chloe dancer part. This is amazing to see. it's the most similar emotion i've seen him have in a performance in the 90's.
You ARE aware that Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament were members of Mother Love Bone, right? I think that gives them the right to retain privileges, since, you know, they own the songs. Andrew's death (rest his soul) led to the formation of Pearl Jam.
Eddie met them on the Temple of the Dog album with Chris Cornell , this was the Andrew Wood tribute album , and Mother Love Bone Became Pearl Jam with Eddie then! So yes Pearl Jam is what Mother Love Bone became , they have the musical rights to play all of the catalog. Still never be the same with out Andy!
@@DrakeSpidey jeff and stone were the only members from mother love bone. Jack irons recommended Eddie as vocals when they decided to form a band after Andy's death. He was down there to start work as the new band that would become pearl jam. Temple of the dog was chris Cornell's tribute to Andy as chris and Andy were room mates and they invited Eddie to join in the tribute.
Still listening in 2019. Still thinking about Andrew. It has been 29 years since his departure and his voice still echoes.....still haunts.... He would be proud of this homage.
Dude you've done such a great job editing this video together. I'm surfing around old stuff while bummed out thinking about Chris, and it led me here. I'm thankful we still have all the guys in PJ and hope nothing but the best for them.
I heard only the Crown of Thorns before this, with Eddie saying "this one predates the band, actually". The addition of Chloe Dancer on this performance fills the cup of emotion to the brim and allows it to spill over the sides. So incredibly powerful and beautiful!
McCreedy, Gossard, and Ament miss Andy a lot and Eddie knows that it's his spot he filled when everyone thought once Andy passed that their careers were over. So this is Eddie paying his respect and letting him know he remembers that he was a big reason that Eddie and the guys are where their at now and have had the careers they've had. And plus it probably makes the band members feel great and young for a few minutes by paying tribute. Maybe even closing their eyes and drifting back momentaril
@@into.the.wood.chipper. Eddie and Andy never met. the guys from MLB heard some of his solo stuff after Andy passed and invited him to jam with them and out of that we got the Temple of the Dog album and then the formation of Mookie Blaylock/Pearl Jam.
Two members of PJ were in MLB, Stone Gossard & Jeff Ament. After Andrew died, they formed a band named Mookie Blaylock, named after the NBA player (hence the PJ album title "Ten", Mookie's jersey number) with Eddie.. they later changed the name to Pearl Jam. 👍
If there's a single song that pretty much sums up the story of my Life..in the truest essence in its purest form this speaks volumes of the pain sustained in many of us...Thanks Mother Love Bone..Andy smiles above us..Eddie well done rendition
Bry Molina, I’m not gettin into it cause that’s not me and it’s the internet. but yeah loved this song for 20 yrs too.. and helped me in the lowest times too. Chloe dancer is beautiful . Thanks for your words
I know this is not fake cause I've seen it live, but how does he sound that good live. Seen lots of bands and nothing can compare to this live. It is insane how his voice is live.
Holy crap!! I've always loved this song but this is the first time ive seen this performance and I'm completely blown away..sung with so much feeling..freakn magical!!!
Eddie will always do songs justice he takes pride and believes in the music he sings!!!! Just amazingly beautiful man his voice is sometimes haunting but so beautiful at the same time!!!! Just amazing 😉
I just came across this, and fully expected to dislike (very much) Eddie's interpretation of one of my most beloved songs. But, I was surprised....pleasantly so. Thank you.

I am truly sorry for the loss you have suffered. There aren't any words to heal you, only that you are blessed to have known real love. To quote from a movie I never thought I would: 'Men In Black'; Will Smith says " It is better to have loved and than to never have loved at all.", Tommy Lee Jones responds " TRY IT." That is the best way I have heard anything that is close to touching the feeling that is the ultimate price we pay for loving. I would much rather know that pain then living a lifetime of never being so lucky. All of my love 💖 and strength 💪 to you! Don't forget that there ks always room for loving again. Please if you read this , my advice comes from experience and mistakes that I wish I could have avoided, the worst of which is closing my heart to any other love. You will never feel exactly what have for the love you lost, but there are beautiful people who have love that is wonderful, and it is so hard to look back and realize how much you have missed out on. Please let love heal you, not replacing anything that you have lost, just letting the person who you are now be love and to love in return.
Andrew Wood would be proud! He would love that Eddie sang this song as a tribute to him . RIP Andrew, you are truly missed but your music lives on. Thank you for sharing your beautiful voice with us and thank you for all of the songs that you left for us to remember you by! You are a Star!
No matter what you prefer, you have to love the way Eddie Vedder respects rocknroll history. And some rockers themselves. You never know who he could show up with, as a special guest. . He's not in love with himself, like those 80's rockers.
most people have no idea how important Andrew Wood was to the Grunge scene, when he was alive and after his death, very very important part and loved by all
LIke the original. THis version is fine too. They recognize greatness that never was, by honoring MLB and andrew. BUt came thru pearl jam. GOd/Jesus bless and save all that read this. Amen!!
i wasn't expecting to love this version so much, since vedder's voice is so different from wood's. but the way vedder sings this, is just so beautiful. i almost like this version better.
But that twang bluesy style almost raunchy and filthy alley vibe in andrews voice is what made this song...eddie did justice in his style (pearl jam)...but Andrew just had that grimey voice...
This is only the second time I've heard this song, first with Andy, then this one right after. Eddie's version brought me to tears--he sang it so beautifully (I like his voice better in general), and hearing it right after listening to the original version and seeing the MLB guys and wondering what they were thinking just got to me.
Ed is an extremely respectful man and a hell of a good musician him and Layne are fabulous and irreplaceable peace out to grunge best era in music👊🎙🎸🥁🎶
Oh my gosh! Damn!!! My word!!! Gee whizz, I never thought anyone could pull off these songs from the great Andrew Wood and Mother Love Bone. Eddie and the band kicked it, I tell ya! Love it, Thank you Eddie and Pearl Jam for providing rendition of these two great songs. Eddie, you rock!
I wonder: ''what would happen if Andy were alive?'' Would Stone and Jeff meet with Eddie someday? Would MLB playing today in any stadium around the world? Maybe yes, or not. So, at the same time, i say ''thanks'' for Wood's sacrifice, what brought us PJ. And i almost kinda cry, because i would love to hear Andy's voice.
As much as I love this song,I don't think MLB were good enough to become successful and eddie would probably be the oldest roadie in san diego. It kinda all fell into place.
Pearl Jam HAS had several charting albums. Idiot. And no, Eddie was given an instrumental tape from Jack Irons of some songs and wrote lyrics to them, and they flew him out to Seattle, from San Diego, where he was already in a band, Bad Radio. Don't speak about shit you aren't well versed in. Pearl Jam has a shit ton of amazing songs, and they are still going since 1990. Grunge was NOT popular when PJ formed either. lol. Smells Like Teen Spirit didn't blow up til late 91/92. Which got the rest of the country and world into the genre. Pearl Jam was already a band for 2 years. lol.
Awesome! Nice tribute to M.R. Wood. I can't even imagine how much Andy would have accomplished if it weren't for his leaving us way too soon! He was way ahead of his time.
Amazing job Eddie, awesome as always. Andy's voice however has a very special place in my heart ❤ God I adore this man, please God continue to protect this legend. He's all we have left 😥 Love you Eddie!!!!
Great music never dies, it lives on through others. Music is to be shared. Im pretty sure Andy, like the great musician he was, would want his music to live on. And who would fit better to pass on this musical masterpiece than the band that rose from the ashes of mother love bone? PS. If anyone has the right to play this song it`s Pearl Jam, and they perform it in a great and humble fashion as a tribute to Andy.
Eddie, beautifully and accurately protrayed the heart of andy. Still emotionally potent and yet he owns it. I think it was appropiate to do the song that put mother love bone on the map and birthed 2 of the best bands in the grunge era. 💟💟💟💟💟💟💟💟💟
Performances like this make me wish that I believed in god and heaven, 'cuz I'd like to say that Andrew's up there smiling down on these guys (some of them, remember, former band-mates of his) and mean it.
I loved this so much, pearl jam' s tribute to andrew wood and mother love bone. i love this era of music. wish i could go back to this time. these are the true faces of grunge. this song is a masterpiece.
I've been a MLB fan since about '89. So much so that I named my firstborn after this song. I've seen Pearl Jam in concert more than any other band, but haven't followed them much in more recent years. This is a good version though. I feel like Eddie really put his stamp on it. Gonna share it with my daughter as she's fans of both bands as well.
those lessons never learned, she's always been given...Times like this must die. He who rides a pony, must one day fall...Listen on..I forever love him.,.
Beautiful! Andy is looking down with the gleam in his eyes 🙂. Mother love bone was such an amazing band cut short unfortunately but had it not been for that tragedy Pearl Jam would have never existed. I've seen PJ 27 times now and #28 will be in Sept in Dana Point 👍😁. Diehard fan for life!!
Pearl Jam can perform ANYTHING admirably, and although no one can sing this iconic opus like its late composer Andrew Wood, Eddie Vedder did so with genuine reverence and impassioned graciousness. And I have never seen Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard look so grieving an yet so enraptured. If guitars were the instruments of prayer, their sounds here reached out infinitely to gently touch the hand of their beloved brother, Andrew Wood.
