Expecting perfection, leaves a lot to endure...’ I’d a switched the lyrics around and swapped ‘endure’ with ‘ignore’ I just feel like that would’ve make a lot more sense and flown better...nothin’ Eddie can’t word play with in a live show though, I would ! ✏️ Oftentimes when you EXPECT perfection, you IGNORE the many finite little details that go into achieving such! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 All in all a GREAT PJ tune and BEAUTIFUL lyrics by Vedder! 👌🏻🍇 🍷

Lucky Destiny I’m 51 and have been down with PJ since 1991. This is, by far, their worst single yet. I’ll still go see them on tour though (I’ve never missed a tour) since they are incredible live. Hopefully this tune sounds better in a live setting.

Fair enough regards your opinion on the song I wasn't trying to argue with it, but there are plenty of long time PJ fans that will disagree with you and love this song. They cant please all of us all of the time mate. For me I welcome this with open arms, last thing I would want is for them to do another predictable and boring album like Avocado.

Lol at anyone who thinks Pearl jam was ever actually grunge. They're my favorite band who was misplaced under the grunge label by a media that didn't know what else to call the bands that came out of Seattle around that time because the scene was so sonically diverse. None of the bands sound(ed) alike, but there was an incredible scene that developed. They all got lumped into grunge.

I’m so happy to hear this!! I just celebrated my 40th birthday which means I was lucky enough to discover pearl jam from a “ten” cassette in 1992 when I was 12 years old and just starting to go through puberty. The band quickly became imprinted on my soul and I found myself looking to the wisdom in their music whenever I had difficult choices to make in my life. For people like me who’ve grown up with this band we’ll all agree that the band has changed and grown over the years just as is supposed to happen with all living things (It’s evolution baby!). Having said that, ( and this is just my opinion) I do feel that the recent records while more sophisticated melodically did seem to be a bit repetitive...(perhaps Eddie himself felt this way as he says in this song “we’re stuck in our boxes, windows open no more” ). PJ can write a great classic rock song, we all know that. But I was secretly hoping that the long layoff between albums meant they were looking to grow artistically and take more chances. Yes there are a lot of Bowie and Talking Head influences in this song, but the bass line is classic Stone and to move his grove to the bass is pretty cool I think. Eddie’s lyrics as always really have a way of connecting with me as well....So in conclusion and borrowing from “immortality” “Some die just to live”......this is great!

'Dance' was a perfect storm of experimentation and real collaboration, mixing up the instrumentation and building a great song, and Ed writing some of my favorite words yet, around Matt’s killer drum pattern. Did I mention Mike’s insane guitar part and that Stone is playing bass on this one? We’ve opened some new doors creatively and that’s exciting."

I like this, it took me quite a while to understand what was going on because I expected a single with a heavy rock track kind of like “Mind your Manners” , or “Lightning Bolt” but I’m starting to love this, it’s very groovy and futuristic. I’m happy that they took this experimental route again, kind of like the No Code and Binaural days. It also fits to the new decade very well. This just makes me more excited to hear the record already. I love it.

Perhaps an exaggeration, but it might be one of or the BEST song they've written. Love the Music and just read the lyrics and was blown away. So inspiring that Eddie and the Boys are still so inspired and still truly creating unique/out of the box stuff. I mean, this is real growth man, it doesn't sound like anything they've ever done in my opinion. This got me genuinely excited!! Fucking GREAT song! Hope we get to see them this year.

Definitely a 1980’s retread all the way down to what sounds like electronic drums. It’s funny because I was thrilled when they helped bring back the raw rock sound of the ‘70’s back to the mainstream in 1990 which was sorely missing for a decade. Now they’re bringing back ‘80’s new wave! Didn’t see it coming.

Na moral, a banda saiu da área de conforto pra tentar algo novo e ficou simplesmente maravilhoso, pqp como eu amo amo essa banda que me deixa desgraçada da cabeça! ❤❤

Hey if a great 90s grunge band wants to bring back 80s new wave and post punk it's fine with me. Even though it might not the Pearl Jam sound this modern day world needs good music, but that's just this 14 year olds opinion take it with a grain of salt.

Confusion is to commotion What love is to our devotion Imperceptibly big Big as the ocean And equally hard to control So save your predictions And burn your assumptions Love is friction Ripe for comfort Endless equations And tugging persuasions Doors open up To interpretation [Chorus] Expecting perfection leaves a lot to endure When the past is the present and the future's no more When every tomorrow is the same as before The looser things get The tighter you become The looser things get Tighter Not one man Can be greater than the sum That's not a negative thought I'm positive, positive, positive Falling down, not staying down Coulda held me up rather than tearing me down Drown in the river [Chorus] Expecting perfection leaves a lot to endure When the past is the present and the future's no more When every tomorrow is the same as before Numbers keep falling off the calendar's floor We're stuck in our boxes Windows open no more Couldn't lift up the forget-me-nots Not recalling what they're for I'm in love with clairvoyants 'Cause they're out of this world You might also like Daughter Pearl Jam Even Flow Pearl Jam Better Man Pearl Jam [Bridge] I know the girls wanna dance Fall away their circumstance I know the boys wanna grow Their dicks and fix and file things I know the girls wanna dance Clairvoyants in a trance I know the boys wanna grow Their dicks and fix and file things [Outro] Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back (I know the girls wanna dance away their circumstance) (I know the boys wanna grow their dicks and fix and file things) Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back when the spirit comes Stand back when the spirit comes
