In the late 1960s, the Japanese manufacturer Pearl Drums began producing drums with mixed shells made of wood and fiberglass. This late 70s set in 12 "x 8", 13 "x 9" and 16 "x 16" and a 22 "x 14" bass drum is equipped with Remo Emperor Coated Heads and Evans EQ3 and Reso 7 Coated Resonant skins. The sound is warm and fat, the set sounds loud and resonant.

I once this kit on my local classifieds for $250 Candian dollars, only it was the metallic blue. Great sounding drums !

These drums actually sound amazing!! I've heard professionally recorded modern kits costing 2-3k that didn't sound as good. I have a WF kit im restoring its got 13x9,16x16,18x16,24x14 (virgin kick) and another 12x8,16x16,20x14.

Wahnsinn, wie gut das klingt. Der Bass hätte ich eher ein PS3 gegeben, aber die Toms sind mega.

Hi Jimmy, die Bass ist so bisschen mehr mittig. Finde ich super zum Aufnehmen. Aber PS3 geht natürlich immer.

I have these exact drums but all fiberglass in gloss black except the snare. Finally a great video with the drums tuned up and micd nicely. Now i can stop thinking of buying new drums.

Hello Thereu thanks, but have to admit, that all the edges on the shells were redone by German drumbilder Klangmacherei. The shells were not plain. Now they tune up great, ideal for recording.

@@DrumsBonedo Oh...what degree bearing edge? And was it hard to do since it is fiberglass bearing edges? Do your drums have wood outside and the inner shell is fiberglass?

@@vegasmarc21 90° inside and slightly roundend outside. It was not easy. For the inside you can't use a normal router bit with a ball bearing because the fiberglass surface isn't even. I had to build a contraption to do the inside. Also because of the poor quality of the outer layer of wood, I had to fill and stabilize with epoxy. But as you can hear the result, it was worth the work.

Good timing this week I just put new heads on....I bought Remo clear dots, but changed my mind and got coated ambassadors...I checked my bearing edges, and they are in good shape....a tiny Nick here and there, I just rubbed some wax to fill in the tiny nicks. The drums sound great...I'll soon put up a drum cover and let you know when I do.

Hallo Herr Peters, ich habe auch ein Pearl Wood-Fiberglass und sowohl mein Set, als auch das hier zu hörende wurden von einem gewissen Mic Scharf aus Engstingen in BW gegratet. Er hat eine Schlagzeugwerstatt namens "Klangmacherei", im Internet einfach zu finden. Bei meinem Set 22 16 13 12 hat das ganze 140€ gekostet und klingt danach besser als neu. Obviously the shells are fibreglass and wood but does anyone know what the wood is in the shells for these drums? I was think Maple or mahogany but can't find any info to confirm it online

I have read that it is Luan and Mahogany with a fiberglass coating.

Coated Head Combo, give it a 70's Dead sound but still warm. In my opinion beautiful. I use Powerstroke 3 all around on mine, they sound beautiful too. Mine is a mid 70's with the Hex arm.

@@ronmexico2317 Oh the Tama Superstar is amazing, right up there with Yamaha Recording Customs. But I think you are mistaken, Pearl Wood-Fiberglass was the top of line Pearl back in the day. The head combo is what makes them sound dead in this video, which is a vintage sound. My Powerstroke 3 definitley makes them come alive, the 22x14 bass drum is so boomy and loud the light flickers.

Pro kit of their in their time. they will not sound like this kids...all mic'd up through a mixer. they will sound pretty much like every other drums un mic'd.
