Thanks for doing a clean tone with some reverb, its nice to hear a review of a 5150/6505 with out it being dimed the whole time. Big EVH fan but I'm not playing Eruption or Unchanied all the time. I think the 6505MH wins out over the 5150lbx. Once again thanks TK !!!
I picked one of these up last month on a whim. A Marshall guy but difficult to push my 100-watt JCM stack at home so this little guy caught my attention due to its versatility and tone. I love me some filthy metal and this thing delivers in spades. The clean is reasonably good, crunch is exceptional and high gain blistering. Having wattage adjustment down to 1 watt and the other features, for the price this thing is a smokin deal. Incredible little amp, hundreds of $ less than the EVH equivalent.
One of the best Small amp demos i have ever heard. It dose sound killer and defiantly one i will consider. TTK give yourself a pat on the back, great playing and demonstration this is what people look for when considering new products
Own this amp, and am extremely pleased. Great for metal, hard rock and blues/rock. Loud enough on twenty watt setting to cut in a mix, and affordable to boot. Great bang for the buck!
VERY nice! About TIME they brought out a small/low wattage version of these big power amps! You CAN'T crank most of those big ones in a small club! Pointless having them!
Lewis Barnes Doesn't look like it. I WENT to the Bugera site. Nothing like that yet. I think the HT-5 clone is kinda pointless, when a real Blackstar is not much dearer. I have 1 that I want to sell. I have a H&K TM18 and it kinda supersedes/renders superfluous the HT-5!
Great review! I had the full 120w 6505 and always thought it was a pity I couldn't crank the post gain to get the full on power amp saturation Ed Van Halen got. His was set to 7 (from memory) and the best I could get away with was 3! That was pushing it too-these things are loud. The 'clean' channel sounds good if you use the guitar volume to clean it up btw. Again- great review and playing. Cheers!
You must know a guy, that knows a guy to get this amp. Every shop and on line store posts this amp with, "Order now we will send it to you when they arrive". "Coming soon", "Worth the wait, order now". I love it glad I waited.
TK,...I LOVE THIS THANG !!!! The Beginning Lil' bit-o-Feedback reminded me of the Classic SKYNYRD "THAT SMELL",... Can ya hear it now? lol GONNA Put on on Pre-Order JUST because of YOUR Review,Everyone else pretty much sounded just like the "SAME OL,SAME OL,..but,after I heard the controlled Feedback you did,OMG,Brought back memories of the OLD PEAVEYS and WHAT THEY COULD DO!! THANKS TK!
I'm actually looking for a smaller amp or head amp combo to replace a VOX 54watt and a Randall 200watt I sold. I just don't need that much power anymore since I'm not doing shows or jamming with loud drums. You mentioned a nice price point and I was wondering how nice??? Sounds great btw!
Yeah, it always seems to have just a little hair on it, even on the rhythm channel with the crunch switch off. It's all about gain, and that starts with the 80's shredderator he's got plugged into it. It cleans up a little more with PAFs or single coils, but you just aren't going to get Fender-ish clean tones out of this amp. It was designed with EVH in mind, not Jerry Garcia.
Hey Tone King, can you please give us the settings to get that osculation of that sweet note sustaining forever? Sounds like your guitar has a sustainic met pick up LOL! Thanks again for your great demo videos!
Do you still have this amp? Curious what it would sound like with JJ preamps. Been reading forum talk that the JJs take some or that shrill out of the lead channel and add some low end.
Great demo Bro :-) I know I prefer a Made in USA, Germany or UK to Far East in my amps but I'll have to admit this little power house sounds good :-) 20 watts is that magic power setting for home small club & recording. No need for the 100-120 watt monsters unless your playing stadiums with Megadeth LOL. Can't wait to hear the Classic 20 model. I wonder if our buddy Tony Mackenzie from across the pond will be doing a video of this new lunchbox type series from Peavey? He takes the damn thing apart to show ya how it built inside, good or bad :-) Have a great week TK.
Hi! Great review! I had read all the comments, how it is compare to valveking etc...but what me interests, how is it close to the 6505? I mean the mini have EL84, and the 6505 have 6l6. In tone they are similiar?
I've heard of these and the new valve king combos being bought and end up not working, do you think that has to do with being made in China or how it was handled either by the player or by shipping
Excellent video, thank you very much for doing so. A doubt about this amp has recently emerged me , is it true that this amp have a lot of problems ? Cheers Sorry for my poor english :'v
Hey Tone King I picked up the ValveKing MH20 Love it ! Question can you use two foot switches at the same time? One in the the Channel/ boost and the other in the Reverb /Effects jack. I only have one foot switch so I can't test this myself. Thanks.
Cant really get a "Clean" from it though. At best it will have abnout 10% distortion in it,sadly . but the Rythym & lead channel Make up for it & then some. Balls to the wall really reallly really killer gain, as nasty as ya wanna go,its there
It would appear that you never took the gain all the way up on the lead channel. Were you afraid to turn it all the way up? P. S. I am totally buying one of these and one of the Classics. Great review and demo.
Paul Medlicott If its anything like the big 6505's you do NOT want to turn it all the way up. This is not an oldschool Marshall, this is a high gain monster that has more gain than anyone needs to a point it becomes messy. And I dont mean a good way, just fuzzy tone thats almost unusable no matter how brutal death metal you think you might be playing.
Nice review! Ok, so its definetly good for jamming and recording. And im sure it can work on gigs too, but, how loud can 20 watts be? I have a 2 x 12 Orange cab and i usually play gigs on medium sized rooms. Do you think it can do the work? Or do you recommend me to place a mic in front of the cab? :O thank you
TTK you seem very close to the amps and speakers, the room appears pretty small and you play through a 4x12 most of the time, how loud is it in there? Oh btw, nice demo, love these small amps :)
***** I am pretty close. Although it's a 4x12 enclosure - it's actually only hitting an isolated 1x12. The Eminence Tone Center has 4 isolated 1x12 in a 4x12 enclosure. With that said - when I do the demos - I need to HEAR what I'm playing, this way I can re-act to what I'm hearing - like in the beginning of this video. Most of the time it's pretty loud, but no louder than a concert :-)
Thats weird as you've become quite the famous go to gear guru on RU-vid. But still, you really ought to try one. I've gigged with it several times now and it's simply the BEST, I'm telling you. DON'T DELAY, TRY ONE TODAY. I'm sure, that Reinhold can hook you up.
greatvanzinni Hmm, the cleanest sound I could find had a fair amount of dirt going on. Or so it seemed. I'm really interested in this clean to dirty quality in amps. I just heard some sort of Marshall anniversary model (61 , something)that had pristine cleans. Blew me away because I just never ever thought of Marshall & clean in the same thought. So now I am on a search! thanks.
J Ketterman Sounds thunderous here :-). So much determines the way it sounds at each end, not to mention the compression YT places on the videos. But, here - it sounds pretty good to me.
I guess I'm not hearing it over my speakers. Mine should be coming in couple of weeks. One thing I've been wanting to hear is what it sounds like drop tuned.
it sound good...like all your videos.you are not a great player but you play nice, sweet and clean. i support you always.did you ever try the ironheart coz i am wonder if mini 6505 have more gain than laney.ty
Good review TK, but I gotta call bull s*** on you. The amp isn't raising those notes an octave. That guitar's got a sustainer pup in it. Right? Anyway, thanks for the review.
LOL TYPICAL ROCK STAR WANNA BEE GUITAR PUTZ...NOT ONLY DOES HE HAVE TO BE LOUDER THAN THE BAND HE HAS TO BE LOUDER THAN HIMSELF PLAYING THE BASS...LOLOL
