This coral care video is about the spiny cup coral of the genus Pectinia. Pectinia have an interesting growth pattern that sets them apart in the LPS world. They have a plate-like growth form but then send up these spiky spires from that plate. Pectinia make a great addition to any mixed reef tank or LPS dominated reef aquarium looking for a plating coral with a twist. If you look hard enough, you can find some interesting color morphs. Let's get into all the care tips for Pectinia!

Future idea for a video. Coral and fish spawning you’ve witnessed: tangs, acros, or even snails

I had a massive bristle worm spawning a few years ago. Turned my tank milk white and would put Japanese anime to shame 😂😅

Great info thanks Than I have a Pectinia but it's not P. alcicornis (like space invader) so it doesn't have the spires (and doesn't seem to sting nearby corals). It's purple with orange splashes and I think it's P. africanus and so looks more like an open brain - like a symphillia or something. Cool - but not as cool as the branching varieties like P.elongata - and pygmaeus which I wish we would see in the hobby

HI, what camera settings do you use to avoid flickering? What else do you use to minimize them? Maybe some lighting changes? I started filming corals and can't find any answers online and you do it so well I'm amazed!
@tidalgardens

Your lighting is the issue. It's flickering at a hz rate that is lining up with the refresh rate of your camera's sensor.

Do pectinia srart to look "scrunchy" when their getting hit by too much flow or is that normal? Should they always look puffy?
