During my visit to germany's second largest organ museum I had the Incredible luck of playing a Claviorganum. The one I played on had no pedals but instead had the pipes as an aditional register so that you combined the timbre of the cembalo and the organ. It is a very unique instrument and I think it's potential should be further explored.
@@orangefruit9166i believe the museum in question is the orgel art museum in windedheim. It has over 80 instruments including some very rare things reconstruction of Renaissance and middle ages instruments. Apart of the forte pianos and clavichords you can play pretty much everything there. All organs atleast- if you ask that is. But the curator is very chill and there's few visitors so you can take your time there. I highly recommend it!
The claviorganum there is a copy of a late baroque English instrument which is basically a kirkman double manual harpsichord and a chest organ in one box plus some funny features
When English composer Thomas Attwood visited Mozart in Vienna c. 21 July 1785 ‘I found him quite formally drest despite the heat but when I shook his hands was surpris’d to notice how cold they were…he was standing at his writing desk completing a Quartet - which later became one of the Set of 6 dedicated to Haydn; he had in his Study a Walter Klavier forte-piano with a string pedal attachment of 4-octaves (c to c’’) which serv’d as a second forte-piano…’. So it is vital that when performing Mozart’s sonatas & Klavier concerti that pedal attachments like these are used ‘to give depth of sound’ to the performance …
First time I’ve seen and heard such a thing. I’m very impressed! It seems that it would be easier to acquire one of those than an actual pedal harpsichord.
In short , keyboards work like on a harpsichord because it is a harpsichord AND the pedal works as a tracker action pedalboard because it is an organ . Keyboards are string instruments with plectrum , peadlboard is a wind instrument with wood pipes , a blower and the mechanical devices that goes from the pedalboard to the wood pipes .
