My friends Don and Susan Dickinson, spent a good part of the summer of 2022 traveling across America, from the coast of Maine to their home on Lopez Island, Washington. Don on his bicycle and Susan driving the support van. This video documents the most excellent adventure they both had along the way. Don’s detailed daily log can be found here: www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/l...

This is so great. Did a similar route in 2016 and had SUCH a similar experience with SD. The "OMG I rode my bike to SD from Maine" reaction, it was our favorite state, the black hills were a favorite day, the badlands were unexpectedly amazing, and though we didn't go through Wessington Springs, our night in Wessington was our best night/favorite people. So few go through SD, and I tell everyone how much they're missing out. Cheers!

I rode across the country this summer too and it was cool to see how our experiences were the same and different. Our routes didn't match up too much, maybe just in Wyoming. Nice video!

Wow, what an awesome trip and story. Being a grandfather myself it was pretty emotional when your grandchildren surprised you on the road and the welcome home from friends and family. You're very fortunate and did a great job of sharing this adventure. This is the stuff every cyclist dreams of. All the best to you and your wonderful wife. ✌

Thanks, Don. I'm always looking for motivation. I'm flying from Iowa to Amsterdam in late April and riding through 5-6 different countries until I reach Switzerland. Rather than take my 64cm bike to Europe, I purchased a bike in Amsterdam. After I arrive in Switzerland, I'll take my bike on a train to Sweden where I have some friends. They have agreed to store my bike until I hopefully return in 2024. Your smiles and tears were both very heartwarming. Awesome accomplishment. I'm so impressed.......great wife also!

Well done Don & Susan for achieving what you have and a great video from over here in the UK. Its particularly great to see some one riding a bike the same shape as me Don. I can understand why you both got emotional when talking about your family and friends as well as they're the most precious things we have in our lives. Stay safe out there Ted.

What an awesome joint adventure! My partner and I bikepack and are always looking for new trails and routes. In 2022 we completed the GAP/C&O and Katy Trail. Thank you for the NYS shoutouts. We live 10 minutes south of the southern Adirondack Blue Line (border) and 20 minutes north of the Erie Canal Trail which we ride often and have completed end-to-end several times.

What a great video! It goes without saying that Susan and Don's adventure was epic, but the way you presented it is what makes this so entertaining and engaging. I love the in-person narration that's so well done and lets viewers see the emotions of the trip - especially the family meeting en route and the homecoming. Of course the scenery shots were pretty nice too. Many hours of editing no doubt - well done to you, and of course to Don and Susan too!

From the editor: Yes, many hours of editing but fun all the way. It helped that Don and Susan were so comfortable in front of the camera for the interviews.

An amazing epic adventure, but in truth I am jealous because I was able to get from Seattle to Crawford, NE and then had to bail. But I be back for to do it in stages. Our routes were virtually the same through Wyoming (windy!). I got chased by a lot of dogs, but the one just east of Crowheart was the smartest one. It lay in the grass, didn't bark, and waited for you to ride by before it tore after you. I met 3 parties of cyclists at the Crowheart store (which has great homemade baked goods BTW) and they'd all been chased by the same dog.
@dondickinson4972
@dondickinson4972 Год назад
The Crowheart store was a welcome oasis for sure. I had no issues with dogs in that area luckily. Thanks for the reply!
