So sorry and so thankful. Sorry you have to go through this ordeal but so thankful you're recovering well, as it could have been so much worse. I am so glad to hear you are doing ok. I had no idea anything happened until I saw the 992 Turbo S come up today and I started digging through google to find out what happened. I hope to see more great content coming up. If there is any silver lining is this happened before the whole virus thing started rolling out. I was hoping Motoman would mention a few details regarding the collision itself, specifically how he came to be in the Teslas travel path on a public roadway, and if any legal ramifications are pending against the Tesla driver or himself. Presumably the Tesla driver remained at the scene post collision until first responders arrived including law enforcement. Lastly, I'm curious as to whether EV's like Tesla are engineered to emit any audible sounds to announce their presence to pedestrians. Obviously an I.C.E vehicle can be heard approaching in most cases but not always with an EV I would imagine.

I wonder if the car slowed itself at all lowering the impact velocity?

Glad you are OK. As a fellow distance runner this is my biggest fear. I almost got hit in a crosswalk the other day by an on duty Police Officer. If cops ignore traffic rules how are regular people expected to follow the rules? Was it the driver’s fault?

the expression on my face the entire time you described the accident....JESUS CHRIST, you're alive and talking! I'm a huge advocate for getting rid of SUV's because the survivability is so low with collisions with pedestrians and small cars. How well-engineered is the Tesla Model X that a 6k lbs vehicle hits you at 40 mph....then you hit the ground after flying...and survived. If it was pretty much any other SUV you would have died on impact with the car. I wish you a speedy recovery and no long term pain.

So glad you survived! Considering the speed you were hit, I think that speaks volumes to pedestrian safety for the Model-X. It wasn't long ago that a 40-45mph impact would have meant certain death. However, did this X not have emergency braking for pedestrians?

Hey MotoMan, first off: glad you're OK. Three years ago my uncle, the biggest car guy in my life (he owned an (not simultaneously, but there was a lot of overlap) M6 GC, E39 M5, many E39 540i's, Foxbody 'stangs, C7 Z06, Chevelle, old Fiat racecars, Gen 1 Mustangs, 280SEL, stock (NASCAR-style) racecars, VW Bug, GMC Syclone, etc; I'm forgetting some) passed away after 5 months in a medically induced coma. He was 41 and was the one of the biggest influences on my becoming a car enthusiast. He was up in Marin County (SF Bay Area) with some friends and fell down a fligh of stairs, hitting his head at the bottom. For 5 months we waited for him to begin his road to recovery and exit the coma, but in the end pneumonia got to him. I miss him dearly. What you said about nurses really hit home for me because of that experience. In October, I was in the passenger seat in a friend's W213 E63 S Wagon on a backroad. My friend, irresponsibly, had the car in drift mode (AWD --> RWD and no traction -- in a 600+ HP car) and went to pass an SUV that was going 10 MPH under the speed limit in a passing zone. He got on the throttle too early trying to get back in the lane and pushed the rear end out, sending the front end of the car into a curb. After hitting the curb, we flipped 4 times and landed upside down, taking down a tree and a mailbox in the process. Neither of us sustained any injuries other than minor cuts and scrapes, but I know how close I was to death that day. I definitely drive a bit slower now, and I also really connect with what you said about the second lease on life. In conclusion to my relatively long comment, I will say that I wish you a speedy recover and am glad to hear that you have had a positive experience so far in recovering. It's important to keep in mind that pedestrian deaths have gone up recently while driver/passenger deaths have dropped. Cars get safer but heavier, and people get more distracted. Love your content, and I'm glad to see you've got stuff in store for us. Thanks!

happened to me on a bicycle head on with a 85' Buick Regal. I was wearing a day-glow orange windbreaker and was going about 40mph and the 1/2 blind 81 year old woman turning without signalling as well as speeding up almost like she hit the gas hard thinking it was the brake. my L foot/shin was nearly taken off, hit the windshield w/my shoulder and launched into the air, landing aprox. 100' feet down the road and sliding for long enough to have had severe road rash completely up and down my left side. Needles to say, I was being watched over and made it out alive. There's more to tell but I'll leave it here. Unfortunately I didn't have much support afterward but I eventually recovered and met my Wife of 31 happy years not long after.
