Purpose: The purpose is to serve as a comprehensive study guide for the pediatrics board exam. Although there are countless study guides out there, this one is written completely in bullet points, making it easy to access specific topics for a quick review.
Audience: This book is written for physicians at or near completion of pediatrics residency training, in preparation for their board exam. It is especially helpful for pediatricians up for recertification who want a quick review of subjects. The author and expert contributors come from hospitals across the country.
Features: This book seeks to present the entirety of topics encountered in pediatrics. The second edition adds new topics, such as sports medicine, nutrition, and ethics. Pictures, figures, and graphs serve as helpful supplements. The last chapter provides high-yield, last-minute review blurbs and phrases matched with the correct answers. There is also a chapter devoted solely to radiology cases.
Assessment: This book is a useful study resource. It is comprehensive and easily accessible. It provides detailed facts on cases, as well as chapters devoted purely to last-minute review. It is written completely in bullet points, so this may be a shortcoming for readers who do not learn well from this presentation. The additional chapters in the second edition are justified given the rapid changes of the field over the past five years.
