This video discusses fetal circulation and associated changes that take place after birth. It further explains the difference in acyanotic and cyanotic congenital heart defects, associated signs and symptoms, treatments, medications, and nursing care. Defects mentioned are ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus, tetraology of Fallot, pulmonary artresia, and transposition of the great arteries. The specific defects are not discussed in detail; the video rather focuses on an understanding of left to right and right to left shunting.

You are very welcome! Knee to chest position is very important in patients with tetralogy of fallot to improve their oxygenation pre-surgery. Thanks for watching!

In txt of VSD, Can we give antibiotics as a prophylaxis against bacterial endocarditis?
@NursingSchoolExplained
@NursingSchoolExplained 2 года назад
Great question. After doing some research, I found this article helpful: "The current American Heart Association (AHA)/American College of Cardiology (ACC) guidelines do not recommend antibiotic prophylaxis for infective endocarditis (IE) in patients with acyanotic congenital valvular heart disease due to lack of any proven benefit and potential harm associated with antibiotics. As recognized by the guidelines, some acyanotic congenital heart disease, such as ventricular septal defects (VSDs), are associated with a high velocity jet and pose a greater risk of peri-procedural endocarditis."
