The problem is if a professional reports a false abuse, “ child protection services” further investigate and eventually taking the child away from his family ending up in foster care where the true abuse takes place. This gesture can ruin someone’s life. Kids play fall injuries can happen or sometimes parents can discipline their kids with some gentle pinch.

this is why the professional has to consider the physical findings, using best judgement prior to reporting. fall injuries and gentle pinches present differently from abuse. and if abuse is suspected, the risk of letting the child stay with a potentially abusive family vs the potential of abuse when the child is taken away from that family is weighed. as a medical professional, it is the only thing you can do. one would cleanse the child protection service system of abusers if they can, but what can you do about it as a medical professional?
