Professor Pedro Sauer shows a sweep when your partner is trying to pass your knee on belly. Check out over 3 hours and 45 mins of video from 8th degree Red and Black belt in Gracie Jiu Jitsu, Pedro Sauer. www.pedrosaueronline.com
One of the things about sauers jiu jitsu that a lot of people don't appreciate/understand is that it's very situational. he doesn't use broad blanket techniques. instead he has a plethora of very specific techniques that are supremely powerful against 1 very small position. Through a combination of corralling you and using them at the appropriate time he's able to dominate ordinary blackbelts. It's the kind of thing only someone who has been training for decades can do
I was at this seminar 3 years ago. Professor Sauer is a great instructor if you ever get the chance to attend one of his seminars. Keith Owen is also in the background in this.
hope all u people who train in virginia at mr. sauers academy realize how lucky they are . ur luckiers than the people who win the lotto . his teaching are priceless !!!!!!!!
i can escape knee on belly but this just adds to my sweeping game! now i just have to practice this a thousand times lol. i like how all high level jujitsu grapplers are so passionate and relaxed when they talk lol. speciall professor pedro sauer lol thanks for the great post
Amazing technique! I can't wait to try this next time someone's got his knee to my belly, cuz I often myself in that position against bigger blue belts.
@Momentimum Don't worry. The new generation of masters is pretty great as well. Just watch any Robson Moura or Marcelo Garcia video and you'll see jiu jitsu keeps evolving.
@Momentimum I agree with you. I've learned some Akido choke defenses and Grip breaks and they are quite useful. What I meant to say was the number of cage fighters compared to martial artists is rather low. Surely more people have walked into the local BJJ club because of the UFC, but that can't be a bad thing. I think the popularity of MMA will drive the development of BJJ and Submission Grappling beyond anything we've ever seen.
That's why he addressed when the guy brought his leg out farther. Think about half guard escapes. If the opponents knee isn't in position to pry with your foot, what do you do? You walk to the side until it is in position.
@metalmankeith I know I can't speak for everyone, but the majority of poster fighters in MMA crowds and competitions fit my generalization quite well. Most masters will speak ill of cage fighters because of their attitude of being the best in the world while fighting under conditions. Too many brawlers speak ill of traditional arts because the applications are either not there or hard to see/learn like aikido -- there's reason for that though -- which is a very effective form of SELF DEFENSE.
@scorcher165 Same! It's such a fascinating art. Even though BJJ is a furthering of my Martial Arts training as opposed to the beginning of it, I probably would have never heard of it without MMA. Even though the UFC and MMA has inspired me to begin training in BJJ, I don't think I'll ever be a cage fighter.
The mans nick name is the professor that means he can ad lil tricks that the average man can not as u do Gracie jitsu each teacher ads his own spice, or technique. I am only a white belt but know enough that this man is the truth!!! And don't care how strong ,how young go ahead and try him!!
There are some guys I roll with who specialize in knee-on-belly, and they almost always go for the baseball choke. Baseball chokes work even if you manage to pull off the sweep, so I want to figure out how to counter this without getting baseball choked. Haha
but why is the guy on top have his left arm on the right side when trying to mount? Shouldnt he have his left arm around his neck?then couldn't he post with that arm to prevent the sweep?
Why is the guy on top keeping his left knee in tightto Pedro's side? It's suppose to be straight and far back to keep your base and focus all your weight on the knee.
@Momentimum The amount or Martial Artists that compete in MMA is rather low. There will always be people who are enthralled by their art who will stop at nothing to perfect their technique. Even a lot of MMA fighters are passionate martial artists. Lyoto Machida, Damian Maia, The Noguera's etc
I would think it depends on the circumstances, but probly better safe than sorry. Pedro glided over during that part, so I assume in that instance it wasn't really necessary. Just my two cents =D
3:51 you didnt even trap his left leg that time um is it needed or not needed I know that advanced bjj people get that leg out of the mix most of thee time.
Ur just overly critical dude. The idea is to NOT let the person secure the position completely. Not to mention, they're drilling not rolling. Besides, who gives a shit about points? I don't care what u say, this is a viable and effective technique. Pedro Sauer would wipe the mat with u, and execute this technique even if ur knee is off the ground.
