Pee Wee Kirkland on Being Basketball Star While Running Drug Empire

Richard "Pee Wee" Kirkland sat down with DJ Vlad recently and gave him a lengthy look into his street ball and crime-ridden past. Born and raised in Harlem, NY, Pee Wee began playing basketball at 9 and, unbeknownst to himself, became one of the best in his age group. At 14 he broke the point record at his local community center, and to this day no one has matched or beat it.
Later on in the conversation Pee Wee Kirkland discusses his ties to drugs and other crimes that eventually led to him serving time (or what he calls a "federal vacation"). Admitting he got caught in the illusion of it all, Pee Wee made it clear he's never sold drugs, but did partake in robbing a series of jewelry stores. "I never sold drugs. Never. What I did was I was involved with the life of crime not too far after I started basketball," Kirkland voiced to DJ Vlad, adding that it "put me in a position to be able to finance what eventually became a drug empire."
Reality hit him three months after he plead guilty to conspiracy for a crime he didn't commit. "Nothing good is ever gonna happen concerning drugs - for nobody," he states before listing prison, witness protection and a graveyard as the only remaining options. "I think what may have saved my life was me going away."
Watch and listen as Kirkland discusses turning down two basketball deals, having to witness his mother getting indicted and his decision to stay drug-free (including aspirin) above.

he lowkey dropped the biggest gem "sometimes it takes someone who can raise your level of consciousness in every aspect of life" A coach who just teaches a kid to dribble pass and shoot will never build a man willing to elevate himself. A father teaching a son ect.

I met him back in 2004 when I attended Brownsville Academy High School in Brooklyn. We used to have "town hall meetings" at the school and the principal invited him to come to the school to speak to us students for Thanksgiving. I remember he signed my honor roll certificate but it got lost over the years moving place to place.

I definitely understand where the brother is coming from. In my early 20's I received a 4 year sentence. Being that I had my high school diploma, I had to work. Now when I say work, I mean work. And at that time in my life, I prided myself on being a hustler. But when you are getting up at 4:30 in the morning to 9:30 at night. And I did this 7 days a week for $62 a month. I came home in February of 2000 and said never again. For you young brothers and sisters watching this, pay attention to the OG

This is by far the best video that I've seen from vladtv. If you are a basketball player, this is a person that you should know about. One of the best basketball players to ever do it!!! I'm 47, so he balled before I was old enough to see him live, but I'm from Va, and tHe CIAA is a way of life for us, and my family talked about him back in the days. Plus my NY family used to take me to the Polo grounds/Rucker, and the stories I heard about him there were unreal. Forget the drugs, the basketball part of the story was everything to me! Thanks again

Another wise man from the hood sharing real knowledge and wisdom for anyone who can understand it. If you're trying to be funny with comments and shit, the jokes on you... You will learn these lessons one day. If you're half as smart as you try to appear with those dumb fukn comments, that day would be today. Unsure what I mean? Ask the smartest person you know to watch this and explain it to you. Great interview Vlad. Not that your questions are bad, but hearing the interviewee is definitely better. Haha. Thank you. As a man from the hood, I had to learn a lot of these lessons the hard way, then get "normal" and then prosper. Wish I learned this in my teens, instead of my 30's. As people who know better, I feel we should say it to those who don't currently understand. If one person gets a clearer perspective, it makes the world a better place for all of us.
@hlminds609

You said everything i was thinking. These people don't realize who this man is. A living legend who wasn't a household name. But the hood holds him up. As a student of the game i love hearing anything about the Rucker and street-ball.
