Thanks to the music, whilst peeling the dragonfruit I felt like I was a detective sitting at a table of a large tower's top floor restaurant, looking out of the window at the night-time scenery of the city, and this was where I first met my partner (the dragonfruit) who had just died because of an unfortunate accident during a really easy mission... And now I was peeling him ready to eat...
Texture-wise, it is firmer and slightly crunchier than a mango. But taste-wise, it is very different as a mango has a sour taste but this fruit is just sweet.
@qingmoments Thanks! I didn't know there were two different types. I work in Chinatown so I should walk around one day to find it. Is it in season now??
@Koreancraft, Hi, which one did you try? I don't like the one with red skin & white flesh, but the other two with red skin, red flesh and yellow skin, white flesh are great. Recently, I came across and bought the yellow skin fruit for the first time. It is the most expensive and the tastiest. It has a rare honey-like sweetness.
@tsmith0312 : Thanks. Many have commented positively on the music in the past, which never fails to amaze me :). It was a piece taken from Apple iMovie software called "Piano Ballad"!
I've seen people eat dragon fruit when the flesh is really neon pink AND when the flesh is white. Is one color more ripe than the other? Does it taste different? Is there a 'right' color your dragon fruit should be? Just curious...loved the music :)
it tastes like a mixture between a kiwi, pear, and a strawberry with a high dose of water. its rare but you sometimes can find these at hannaford. i saw them there like once or twice.
@customdzn1, Hi, well, it is just another fruit, but just not as well known as apples and oranges. More info can be found at wikipedia by searching for Dragon Fruit (youtube couldn't accept my post if I include the wikipedia link!)
Kind of difficult to describe. There are two types, one is whitish, and this is pinkish/purplish. I only like this one, and I think you are going to like it. It is juicy, sweet, and easy (ie not particulary strong or offensive). Enjoy :)
@qingmoments I can't remember I think it wasn't a taste thing for me it was the inside being like a giant kiwi to me, but I'll have to try it again some time, because I'm hearing such good things!
@Mlle4de9 : Hi, the white flesh and dark pink flesh are two different varieties and taste different. I only like this type with dark pink flesh. It is nice and sweet :). Great music from Apple iMovie!
@TheDrunkenMantis I buy them fresh from the market in Thailand everyday, have bought them in Indonesia, and Malaysia on holiday and still no taste. The white ones just make a good rice substitute for me.
Sweet but not very the closer to the middle the juicer and sweeter it is it has a similar (A little bit harder) consistency as a papaya but with sugary seeds
