Yes, it's a good day for singing a song, and it's a good day for moving along; Yes, it's a good day, how could anything be wrong, A good day from morning' till night Yes, it's a good day for shining your shoes, and it's a good day for losing the blues; Everything to gain and nothing' to lose, A good day from morning' till night I said to the Sun, "Good morning sun Rise and shine today" You know you've gotta get going If you're gonna make a showin' And you you've got the right of way. 'Cause it's a good day for paying your bills; And it's a good day for curing your ills, So take a deep breath and throw away the pills; 'Cause it's a good day from morning' till night.
THIS is the version I've been looking for! None of the other ones include all of the cool instrumental solos. Thanks for posting this, and be in peace.
This song was written by Peggy Lee and her husband Dave Barbour and recorded September 28, 1946. Peggy Lee's recording reached the Billboard charts in January, 1947 peaking at No. 16. It was covered by many singers including Bing Crosby, Vic Damone, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Judy Garland.
I had heard it with Judy Garland (simply marvelous), but I didn't know about my absolute King Dean Martin 👑, nor Perry Como.. Thank you for the information. They were also wonderful ❤.. 💜🌿
Che voce meravigliosa!!! Ho sempre creduto che la voce che canta questa canzone fosse afroamericana, che sorpresa questa straordinaria signora originaria della Scandinavia. Che stile, che eleganza, che interpretazione perfetta. Chapeau! ❤❤❤
1948 w/Benny Goodman. Recorded at Capitol Melrose Ave. on magnetic paper tape in Studio A on a brand-spanking new Ampex 200A @ 30 IPS. Les Paul guitar solo by Dave Barbour, who co-wrote the song with Lee. The era of high fidelity audio recording had begun...as you can easily hear.
Wow! Thanks for the "music nerd" background. I love learning stuff like this. I have cut several albums, and I miss the awesome 15 ips tape masters, 2 inch wide multi-track tapes, etc. I love the process...
Peggy Lee at her best with this bouncy performance with this beautiful energetic ballad, "Its A Good Day ". With all the problems of wars, corvid 19, & world economy problems, currently, there are not many good days to enjoy. Let's be brave, smile, laugh, & look for the sun above & delete all problems from your mind. Remember, the human's life span is far too short, so let's enjoy it while we can. This is the best recording of this cheerful song. Cheerup & delete depression & sadness from your mind.
There's an 70s 80s band 'The Dam ed' they have a great song - 'Eloise' thought I'd recommend it to you since I always liked it and Eloise may or not be your real name but if it is it's not a common one.I hope you enjoy the song if you can find it.They are English i think!
It is because the entire atmosphere of the culture and the people was much more optimistic, forward looking (better days and years ahead) and unified in that time. I hate seeing what is happening to people in today's atmosphere of division, hatred, and grievance based thinking. God bless you in your journey.
i was cutting my teeth when this came out. No tv back then and had music most of day. We will never have this again so be thankful when you have these little toe tappers to listen to. ❤❤❤
Good ole Peggy. My dad used to listen to her. 🙂 Love this song and haven’t heard it for a long time since I was little and danced in the kitchen with my dad. Then Dead to me brought her back. 😂
Back in the late 50's, early 60's a local radio station had a morning show and this was the lead-in song. Good memories of my mom making breakfast while listening for the 'key phrase', which was a contest where if you heard the DJ say it (usually a product mention) and were the first caller, you would win the jackpot. The jackpot was usually around $15 but accumulated. Back in the day of rotary phones. Mom won once.
this is what I like about classic songs back then, there were not much songs with deep and sad thoughts, it's just saying, I can tell this day will be good so just enjoy it!!!
Not just a good version, but possibly the very best. Dave Barbour's guitar is really cooking on this one, he's got such a precise, measured and yet still free flowing style.
That's why Benny Goodman had him on board...Barbour could do what Les Paul couldn't...play with a big band and fit right in. Goodman knew what the others from the Big Band era didn't...the electric guitar was going to be a big "thing" in the '50s, and Dave Barbour was he key to modernizing his sound. That clarinet solo by Benny put his stamp on the whole side, as does the use of Harmon-muted brass, another Goodman trademark.
I sure do miss the 70s and 80s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
@@kellyinla it's addictive listening to these song, Unfortunately, artist today have no inspiration and no talent for music. Where are you from if you don't mind me asking? I'm from Apeldoorn, Netherlands
@@derekkess4539 I actually spend a lot of time listening to shows from The Golden Age of Radio (about 1937 - when they could make decent recordings - 1962). There are hundreds of hours on RU-vid. The half-hour radio play was a Perfect Art Form, and the detective shows, Westerns, suspense and horror shows have held up fabulously. If you'd like some recommendations, let me know. It's a good way to visit the past, culturally.
I m here because I love her and I made a video in 2013... this with my friend in NY ..and then I saw the song in adverts and series everywhere...LATER !! just proud of myself...once in life
Madonna probably learned her singing from Peggy Lee. 🤪 I’ve learned about this song from the movie U-TURN, with Sean Penn and JLo. When Sean Penn was riding on his 1964 and half Mustang through the hot deserts of Arizona, and was scanning through the radio stations in search for a good tune, and finally landed on this song. There was a good reason why this song. Because I like it too. 😂
The first time I heard this song was in the film The Notorious Bettie Page. It is such a energetic and enjoyable song song. It fits the scene in the film very well.
I was driving myself nuts, trying to remember what film I heard this in. U-Turn was an impressive film. I haven't seen it in awhile, but recall Sean Penn having a real rough go of it, in a small desert town. Oh, and a young and gorgeous Jennifer Lopez. Anyway, ty for flogging my memory. Peggy Lee is tops. She also did a song in a Scorsese film, the underappreciated, After Hours. She sang, Is That All There is, in this noirish, offbeat comedy. 👍
The original is 2 years older(1945) "Ac-cent Tchu-late" by Arlen/Mercer.Lee worked with Mercer.Maybe they donated this song/melodie to her for some reason? Found no information in google about this aspect and in the comments here by text-serch: Hmmm...
I'm actually here because I work at a lawn mower shop. And this is one of the songs an ad played for snow blowers. Should be on one of Ariens snow blower ads. Anyways I don't care about where I heard it from. The song is great! I love old songs so when I heard it in the bg I was excited and had to find it.
Yes, it's a good day for singing a song, and it's a good day for moving alone; (ALONG) Yes, it's a good day, how could anything go wrong, A good day from morning' till night Yes, it's a good day for shining your shoes, and it's a good day for losing the blues; Everything go gain and nothing' to lose, (TO GAIN) `Cause it's a good day from morning' till night I said to the Sun, " Good morning sun Rise and shine today" You know you've gotta get going If you're gonna make a showin' And you know you've got the right of way. `Cause it's a good day for paying your bills; And it's a good day for curing your ills, So take a deep breath and throw away your pills; `Cause it's a good day from morning' till night.
