You need to watch a certain % of the video to count as a view, but you can like before watching.

@@martinorell2 Yep, this also depends on a video length, hence the "%" This is why shitposts that lasts less than a minute, or longer than 3 seconds tends to get many view count very quickly It gives viewers no chance to bail out even if their video content is uninteresting for them, due to the small window to react, plus their curiosity on a video make them harder to bail out quickly, "why bail out if the video is shorter anyways?" or something like that.
