Pelé is one player who could have played football in all generations of the world. Watching he play in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s makes his skills, vision, dribbling, passing and lethal finishing so current. It's no wonder, he is the greatest football player of all times. RIP, Pelé

@@aidan2849 Nope, methinks he would perform even better today because strikers and forward now enjoy better protection than they did during Pelé's era and in the era of Maradona who kept going despite varied attempts by defenders to mow him down. Among the top 3 who could have excelled in ANY era are Pelé, Leo Messi and Diego Maradona. 'nuff said.

@@gourmondal5812 I do not agree with what you said at all. He could play in any area of the pitch. Pele is top in all 11 positions on the pitch. I think biases contribute to how you and people in general evaluate things. I don't believe from what I have read in your comments that you are objective or even truthful. You said from what you saw. Does that mean in this video or from his whole career? Even from this video it doesn't really make sense what you are stating, unless you have preconceived opinions that you are seeking to justify.

Messi está longe de ser o segundo melhor jogador do planeta. Tudo o que ele faz hoje é muito limitado. Nas décadas de 50 a 80 ele não jogaria futebol, assim como Ronaldinho Gaúcho também não e mais uma galera aí de jogadores pseudo craques. This is only the first leg played in Milan which AC Milan won 4-2. The second leg took place at the Maracana and was won by Santos 4-2, although Milan had reason to complain about the refereeing in that match. A third game was played at the Maracana which Santos won 1-0 and they were awarded the Intercontinental cup. Pele scored 2 goals in this match and 2 in the second leg, totalling 4

@romi bird. What game were you watching. Most of peles passes didnt even reach a man and he just couldnt beat the milan defence as they just took the ball of him time and time again. The italians were the best at defending in the world and pele saw that. They were really hard to break down. But pele didnt have a great game here, they lost 4-2. It was always a big debate who was better the european teams or the south americans? By the 1960s and 70s and to today most people say the european teams are not just better but alot better.

Pelé é incomparável, o maior da história fácil, o cara era completo, era bom em todos os fundamentos, e extremamente decisivo, o Brasil nunca tinha ganho nada e depois que ele se aposentou demorou 24 anos para ganhar uma copa do mundo, o Santos ficou vários anos sem ganhar nada, 4 copas, 3 títulos, 14 jogos, 12 gols e 6 assistências , Messi, Maradona, Ronaldo, Zico, Cruyff, Romário, Zidane, todos foram craques, geniais, porém nenhum chegou aos pés do Pelé, implacável em clube e seleção, sempre decisivo.

Em copas Pelé tem 8 assistencias. 1 em 1958 para Vavá 1 em 1962 para Zagallo. E 6 em 1970. Em todos os jogos de Copa que Pelé não se lesionou, marcou gol e/ou assistência.

@8:04 a fantastic Santos goal is disallowed for handball- I presume Pele was accused of handballing it with his left arm, but it looks to me as if he is just raising his left arm instinctively to get that shoulder and chest higher to control the ball, and I think it was the shoulder/chest which makes contact. Anyway, his teammate's (Coutinho?) overhead kick is fantastic, a shame for it to be disallowed. Pele did some very nice stuff in this match, including a fine goal; I think he is unfairly disregarded by a lot of modern people because we didn't see him play and there isn't the amount of clear footage that we have of more recent players. In addition to which I think that each generation picks up the opinion of the last as well as cementing the greats of their own era in their minds, so that these days youngsters are willing to concede that Maradona etc. were great players while in my youth in the 80s Pele, Best et al were still the benchmark by which the contemporary and recently retired stars were judged. Trapattoni had his work cut out marking Pele, but he did a decent job. @3:52 Pele shows his brilliance as he takes it past Trap and a second man, though his subsequent pass was intercepted. I like how @1:10 he contests a cross with the keeper, bumping into him as he does so. Pele immediately raises his hand to apologise/acknowledge the collision out of politeness and good sportsmanship. Not that that's unqiue in football, but it's so typical of his sporting nature.

Yeah I figured it hit his shoulder too. Would have been a brilliant assist. Trapattoni had a good game man marking Pele, but Pele did get the better of him on certain occasions to make a substantial impact, although he wasn't his usual influential self throughout the game. He did hang on to the ball a bit too much for my liking in this match, for instance but his impact was there for all to see. Good point regarding the lack of footage and it's a shame that there isn't too much footage of the Santos side of the sixties. However, there's more than ample full match footage of Pele, esp in the WC matches, which is sufficient to make a balanced judgement about his qualities as a footballer. He's definitely one of the greatest ever to set foot on a football pitch, in my opinion. The 70 WC winning vintage of Brazil played some of the most beautiful football I've ever seen, and Pele was right at the heart of it all. I'm old enough to remember the careers of all the players you mentioned. Pele's talent was unique. I think Maradona's legacy was tainted by his cocaine addicton. I would also rate Messi but not quite at the level of Pele or Maradona. You make a valid point about each generation and the lack of tv or video coverage of Pele when he was at his best. There are probably many other greats who we never got to see properly, like Puskas or Di Stafano, and I would certainly rank George Best in the top-player category. Its just a pity he didn't get to play on the world stage.

@footballs greatest. The italians were the best at defending for at least 30 years that i know off. They were all mostly big strong and over 6ft tall and could also play great football. You can see pele struggling here alot as most of his passes dont reach his man, and milan step in and take the ball of pele with ease. There looked about 5 men to peles 2 or 3 men when milan take the ball, but so hard to break them down as pele saw here plus they can go up the park and score alot of goals. I remember in the 1980s the italian leauge was the hardest in the world, especialy the mid to late 1980s when maradona played for napoli and was brilliant. He scored some of the best goals ever in the history of the game and won them the leauge twice and european uefa cup and lots more, when maradona was the greatest player in the world since 1979 and to 1994 easy. He was better than pele. And on a par or same level as george best.

No, the game with Pele not feeling good was another one. A friendly match previous to this important game. Pele couldn't do anything and played only 30 minutes. Some newspapers started writing things like "Trapattoni cancelled Pele from the game", but Trapattoni in the following years always said: "Calm down... that wasn't the real Pele, he was on the pitch only because people wanted to see him. When we faced each other again it was completely different". But as you can see the great Trapattoni is a wonderful defender indeed, and quite loyal and fair, and Pele always praised him.

They are playing with a dead ball compared to today, the pace is so slow. The kids today are so much more athletic and fast. However the tactics and skill was probably better then. If you look at a game today too much of it is like a running race. So it’s a give and take. I personally think soccer was at its highest level between 1990 and 2010.

Watching this its hard to believe that this is the same pele that played in mexico world cup 1970. He just couldnt beat the milan defence and most of his passes didnt even reach a man. And milan just took the ball of him. Pele just looked like an average player here. But the italians were the best in the world at defending for about 30 years, pele was struggling here. As it went to 4-1 to milan i thought its going to be 6 or 7-1, but it ended 4-2 and a nice penalty from pele. A think pele struggled against these big strong 6ft players becouse he didnt have the brazilian players around him. George best is the greatest player i have ever seen! On form best could beat any team and he did to win the european cup and he nearly won it again the year after when he took on the milan defence and won as he laid on a pass for charlton to score, then he did it again for denis law to score but the ref said the whole ball didnt cross the line. I have watched that goal at least 5 times and you can see the whole ball goes over the line. Now if it had been shown in colour then it would have been easier to see it. The rapid vienna coach said "if theres a better winger in europe than george best then i have still to see him" that goal if it counted would have put the game at 2-2 and extra time and i think man utd would have beat them as they had most of the play. I think you see Best with rose coloured specs - he was great for a couple of years but Man U beating Ajax easily ? Come on, Cruyff's Ajax won Europe 3x compared to United's 1 win. United were a team of home internationals yet 68 was their peak, they didn't even dominate England with Best, failing to win div 1 after 67 , Best was div 1 top scorer just once - compare to Cruyff not counting his international career, it's no match. Vamos a dejar de ser hooligans y convenir una cosa. Pelé no era precisamente un gran driblador o regateador. Es la sensación que me da cada vez que veo vídeos de él. Sus regates eran forzados, in extremis, resueltos mediante caños o por fuerza. No tenía la magia, el malabarismo y el control de la bola que tenía un Maradona o un Ronaldinho. Su fuerte eran otras cosas. Básicamente era un goleador. Muy completo en todas las facetas del juego, sí, pero creo que el driblin o gambeta no era por lo que más destacase. Esta es mi opinión.

Pelé por ser completo, o drible não aparecia o tempo todo, porque no lugar do drible, ele matava no peito, dava passes, chutava com a esquerda, cabeceava, armava jogadas... Pelé tinha muito recurso e não precisava usar o drible o tempo todo. A característica de Pelé era a visão de jogo, consciência situacional...

@@galopante1108 obvio que si. Los brasileros dicen que es el mejor de todos los tiempos por que obtuvo 3 mundiales. Pero en realidad tuvo la suerte de tener una excelente selección. Hay otros grandes jugadores que si gracias a su presencia en el equipo lograron títulos internacionales tanto en sus clubes como en su selección. Pele jugo toda su carrera en el Santos y solo 2 años logró títulos en ese club. Maradona obtuvo títulos con Argumentos Juniors, Boca, Barcelona, Napoli, y la selección Argentina. Y eso demuestra que era gracias a él se lograban esos títulos. Pele no hizo lo mismo en su carrera.
