Pelinal is basically the physical embodiment of elder scrolls lore at this point. He does stuff that makes you question everything, but its somehow makes sense when you think about it.
@@jeffmanbrawler Pelinal was a real player character, not the idealized versions of the later ones that we get in the lore. >played generic white man with heavy armour and sword'n'board >genocided the races he didn't like (they had annoying condescending voice lines and/or smoked skooma) >had an overpowered build and strange gear that he "got from the Gods" (console commands and mods) >installed nudity mods and removed the clothes of everyone he killed ...okay that last one was made up but you know he did. Motherfucker probably jumped everywhere he went and compulsively picked locks for loot he didn't need or even really want too.
- Drew: "a word from our sponsors" - Me: *rolls eyes but understands the need and is prepared for a mid-video ad* - Drew goes on about the libraries of Coldharbour. - Me: "Oh you!"
King Hadhuul: "Perhaps the Dead God will send a knight made of stars to slay us where we stand!" Shezarr: "Hm, not a bad idea, actually" King Hadhuul: "...and I pray he does, for I will skewer his heart, just as Auriel the Eagle did in the Dawn!" Shezarr: "Okay, now I'm definitely gonna do it"
If there's one thing I learned from Mercer Frey and others who either mock or betray a non-pacifist god (regardless of which one it is), it's to never tempt them with a good time or test their patience. The end will be either brutal, scathingly ironic or both.
Shezarr: _Leans Backward_ "Babe! We're making a kid!" Kyne: "Hon, you don't have loins." Shezarr: "Fair point. Uhh... Okay, grab that drop of blood that fell down that one well. I'll do the rest." Kyne: _Grabs Sending Stone_ "Alright, I'll just DM Perith real quick..."
An oft-neglected detail regarding Pelinal's discourse with Lorkhan suggests that it, non-verbal and sonic as it was - was an event marked entirely by Pelinal's blasting of Dagothwave on maximum volume beneath Red Mountain.
Shezarr (speaking to Pelinal): "Against all of the evils the Mer can conjure, we shall send unto them only you. Rip and Tear until it is done.". [Rip and Tear Intensifies]
doom music begins alessia: whats going on? echoing aelid screams alessia: um, an answer would be appreciated! doom music reaches max volume, pelinal enters covered in aelid blood pelinal: you ask aka delivers
*Alessia:* "Pelinal not every elf is bad, you don't need to slay them all" *Pelinal:* "Amazing everything you just said was completely wrong" *Alessia:* "Even your name?" *Pelinal:* "ESPECIALLY my name"
Q&A with *Micheal Kirkbride* - What does the passage "wandered Tamriel, gathering armies, conquering lands, ruling, then abandoning his kingdoms to wander again." refer to? *That passage is referring to a composite hero, whose kingly deeds may have not involved Pelinal at all* On several aspects of Lorkhan that all blend together into a vaguely familiar figure (Pelinal, Hans the Fox) all Shezarrines that would do things to protect Nirn, and then disappear to wander again: *Do things to protect Man, but yes, all of this*
Umaril getting bodied by Pelinal even after being weakened is a story I don't get tired of. Drew I would love it if you did a video on Ebonarm before you do one on Raymond (if you'll do one on Raymond) because the God of War being a Yokandan doesn't get enough love in ES Lore
"Lessons of Vivec", "Songs of Pelinal", ... I hope Drew doesn't waste our time with the "Songs of King Wulfharth" or "Songs of the Return" when the fans demand a breakdown of *The Lusty Argonian Maid*
@@badluck5647 Was completely unaware that that existed, It is nice to see a constructed universe actually have fictional works that people read for pleasure, but I don't imagine there is much lore in it.
Thanks a lot. Now I need to make an unarmed, heavy armor, restoration/alteration build (alteration for borderline invulnerability and restoration for fortification of strenght and unarmed, to emulate the BERSERKER power-up). Edit* (Maybe some levels in bladed as well, to include the usage of a Daedric sword/greatsword to reflect the modern version that wields the Crucible blade).
Agreed. Ironically, Morihaus seems more human than Pelinal, even though he looks more like a beast than man. The story of the Minotaur race as a whole seems like a tragic tale worth telling.
The graphics and the effort to make the gameplay in the background stand out like this is absolutely extraordinary and something to be proud of. Masterpiece video
Seconded. My favourite Half-Elf, Half-Demon/God tyrant. Not sure how much lore there actually is on him, but if anyone can make an engaging video on the topic it's our favourite Daedrologist.
You’ve described the biggest failure of humanity. Imagine all of the things that could have been, and the things that could have been better. All ultimately due to money. All due to “the rules.”
I love Michael Kirkbride's writing, but I hate his view that Pelinal should be a time traveling cyborg. It just seems like a distraction from the more interesting storyline of a reincarnating Shor showing up in man's time of need.
I don't mind the time-traveling cyborg thing. Besides, no presentation of him ever _feels_ like a time-traveling cyborg anyway. He still looks and feels like a decidedly fantastical knight.
@@miro.georgiev97 he never mentioned immersion though. He specifically said the cyborg thing just feels like a bit of a downgrade with regards to storytelling than what the interpretation he preferred was. We're not talking about Skyrim mods. He just preferred the divine knight angle lmao I'm indifferent personally. The song of pelinal is largely a reman era text and so some things are likely embellished, cyborg shit included. But he's such a fun character to emulate in elder scrolls games that I'm good with the fantastical versions.
*S O N G E N D S . . .* Seriously though, this might be my favorite telling of the Whitestrake. The apocryphal texts just add that little bit of extra glory to it all.
if you turn the depiction of Akatosh upside down, i like to think talos (Shor-Lorkhan-Tiber Septim- Pelinal Whitestrake) are stabbing the sword through his elven-dragon head.
You were always the part of FudgeMuppet I liked, and this channel has been an excellent replacement. You linking C.S. Lewis and the story of Pelinal together was sheer brilliance. Damn well done, man
Just recently learned of Pelinal and had so many questions and here you go and post a perfectly timed and beautifully executed telling of The Song Of Pelinal. Thank you again for such great content.
Hell, yes! Was not expecting this beauty, but this will be one hell of a session. Ironically enough, I was giving a Lore Lecture on Pelinal last week. Thank you for this, Drew!
Ok I’m blown away, I was hesitant at fist since I already knew so much about pelinal but this just had so much more that no one else covered, and in your style it’s just brought to completely new levels
Once again, Drew of Atmora returns with tales and songs of "Dawn's Beauty". Really cool to see the work done here, as well as the armor and mods used to facilitate it. A short movie of the Elven civilizations in the Merethic Era would be awesome to see, every time I see the Ayleids portrayed in videos like this, I can only imagine what some well-animated/generated Visuals would look like. You guys ever think, perhaps, one day an Elf imbued with the essence of Trinimac could face a Man with the essence of Lorkhan, in this upcoming 2nd Great War? I just wanna see a Shezzarine fight a Mer who's been blessed by Malacath with the light of Trinimac and see their ancient battle be redone, but this time as mortals and not fully-powered Et'Ada.
The sorts of things that would have to be set aside to "redo" that ancient battle in any capacity, even on a small mortal scale, would be... Great and many. I think I'd be more interested in how Malacath even _could_ let go of his bitterness for enough of a moment to let the spark of Trinimac shine in anyone else, or in how Akatosh could shed Auriel enough to imbue anyone with Lorkan's blessing. That would be one hell of a story.
@@YourWaywardDestiny Well, Malacath doesn't actively ask his Orsimer children and followers to purposefully attack Dunmer or Khajit, the people of the Good Daedra that had corrupted him. I feel that, while he's a bit of a downer, that the core values he has is still that of his old self. To let another Mer mantle the currently empty spot of Trinimac amongst the Elven Et'Ada, I feel, would be a helluva way to pass on the torch. Or, at least, bless a Mer with a Warrior's heart to help the Elves in a grand battle with Lorkhan's forces. Shezzarine's still exist due to Lorkhan's scheming, and while Akatosh currently exists, Auriel will always be the initial Time-God of the Dawn, and I'm sure he'd be more than willing to speak with Malacath in however God's conversate nowadays. Especially since Malacath's Realm stretches from Oblivion to Aetherius..
@@thalmoragent9344 All that is a reasonable assessment, inline with the lore and an easy conclusion to come to and all. I just foresee a lot of incapacity to tune out any of the, ah, background noise that comes with each of their current state of being as a large hurdle I'd love to see how they could get past. Malacath isn't going to see being rejected (so to speak) by the then-Aldmer as something small, he is very fond of those cast aside with him for a reason, and his sphere has been accompanied by a bitter, dogged demand to persist for so long, it would be very interesting to see what could come up to make him set aside his cursed aspect to give an inch to anyone who descended from the Aldmer that also didn't keep loyal to him. So, a non-Orc elf would be a hard sell, and it'd take an interesting Orc indeed to pass over the love of Malacath to try to dig deeper into the part that persists as Tirnimac. We've seen such things happen, but the Orcs (just like Malacath) are shown to be pretty good about passing down legends of past consequences. And Lorkan/Shor? That half of Akatosh would, naturally be all for the love of humans, no arguments about that. Except the other head equally loves the elves, even if so far, we haven't been shown much of that favor in lore. It's hard to go behind your own back, so it'd have to be a mighty fight with himself to place even more favoritism on humanity, I think. That would also be an interesting tale to hear how it was overcome. I think seeing how it came to this would be equally as interesting as the fight itself, I am on board with a little mini recreation of a past duel, over all, I'd like to dig in to all the circumstances around it, too.
@@PlebIsland69 You are in for a treat. I promise you that your perspective will change forever how you see the Elder Scrolls. Although its not Lore Friendly Vicn and the crew went through painstaking details to honor and respect the canon. The story is so good.
Outstanding video! Perhaps the best one yet. I love the lore behind Pelinal Whitestrake. I also appreciate how you easily explained the very complicated topics of the the divines and the relationship with Shor.
Simply amazing work! Another small thing I noticed in reference to Lorkon being buried under the 8 divines is there are also 8 volumes in the Song of Pelinal.
What a treat! One of my favorite characters story narrated by my favorite master of lore and the arcane arts. Thanks Drew this work is much appreciated!
i dont know what it is but in videos where you speak about the empire its so... undescribable idk it just makes me emotional, theyre so well done. ive watched this like 5 times now. i mean absolutely no disrespect to fudgemuppet but i understand why you left. what you make is just on another level.
Drew is good to see you doing stuff off fudgemuppet, I remember that kirkbride confirmed later that pelinal wasn't gay either, it was a mistake by him on which bethesda did the right call. Huna was his adoptive daughter grown to be a warrior(yes the achiles part is here but toned to be lotr), the ayleids ambushed her party and captured her, and proceeded to rape and torture her for days the way molag bal aproves, until they send hers and the party's bodies back to alessia. The scene alone made pelinal go into a rage and recite the "O Aka, for our shared madness I do this!" on which he states to morihaus later after that "Like when the dream no longer needs its dreamer." If huna had lived, she would be TES Casca.
Hey Drew I’ve been watching you since fudgemuppet early days and I have to say. Your videos are next level. Thank you man for giving me something to listen to on tough days ❤️
Mr. Drew, thank you for yet another fine "telling". This was more information about Pelinal than I have been able to uncover on my own. Well, to be honest, have been able to comprehend on my own! LOL Thank you, Sir, for clearing up a great many "dark spots" for me!
I think Pelinal might might have been the first ever mortal to achieve Amaranth. An avatar of Shor, who then goes on the realize that he himself is lucid within the Godhead’s dream, and finally proclaiming that he no longer needs the dreamer. Food for thought at least
Something has been bothering me about Meridia. How could she have been an Aedra, but it's now a Daedra? How could she be an ancestor, but now she's not an ancestor? I humbly request our Daedrologist investigate this
technically Meridia, or Merid as she was known before turning to a daedra wasnt an Aedra. she was a magna-ge; one of the servants of magnus that fled with him to become the sun and stars when lorkhan's deception about the nature of mundus was discovered. the details are a bit murky, but sometime after that, Merid either was cast down or willingly went to oblivion; in either case claiming a piece as her realm, turning to the daedric prince meridia.
So, just want to say, I have taken to listening to this(and other vids like this) of the Elder Scrolls stuff by drew just so I can relax while going to bed. Is it just me? 😅
elder scrolls lore videos are my favorite content to listen to! The star made knight is probably the most interesting character in all elderscrolls imo
I just realized a connection between Pelinal and Mehrunes Dagon, both are said to be "Star Made". Dagon was said to be made in Lyg by the Magna Ge while Pelinal is named the Star Made Knight by masters of Alteration. Both seemed to have been made to uproot tyranny and free slaves. Is Pelin-El an attempt by the Magna Ge to create a mortal version of their living weapon concept using a crystalized drop of Lorkhan's blood instead of the obscene power of hope as the power source?
Seems to me Pelinal may have been the first of the Shezzarines who appear during times of great need… it kinda creates the image in my head of humans and other followers of Lorkan in the future crafting a cyborg to send back in time so that their fragile history plays out the intentional way. Time having been broken so many times of course
Your presentation is absolutely masterful, I'm so glad you kicked this channel up. Normally I'd put lore-type videos in the background of something else I'm doing but I'm always captivated to watch your videos with full attention!
To me it would seem that Shor/Lorkhan is trying to pull of a reverse manteling of sorts. Taking the place of Akatosh, much in the same way the Hero of Kvatch mantled and became Sheogorath. I say reverse manteling because it seems Akatosh and Lorkhan are almost switching places. Manteling each other, so to speak. This could explain why the Dragon Breaks happen periodically, as Akatosh's own psyche is under attack. Possibly why Alduin decided to not eat the world. Just spit balling here, but it would certainly explain alot.
I think Lorkhan is trying some form of fusion here ? his goal seems to be amaranth ( replacing/being the Godhead ) and for that Anu and Padomay, stasis and change, would need to be unified to make an Oversoul similar to it at least that's the only intepretation I can think as coherent with the hints that the most significant dragonborns, like tiber septim or the last dragonborn for example, ( wich are shards of akatosh thus stasis ) are also shezarrine ( champion of lorkhan and thus change ) the goal is not replacing, it's merging
@@Super50ldier wich they are, dragonborns have the soul of a dragon, dragons are litteral shards of the dragon god of time wich is akatosh they are not biological creatures with magic breath they are physicaly shaped representation of a god who warp reality with their voices, they aren't even born since they all appeared at the dawn like paarthurnax said they are timeless and unyelding and so is the dragonborn
Wait, do I understand correctly, that this Pelinal is basically something like an angel of vengeance of lorkhan/shor for the races of men, and could still be summoned? Or have I misunderstood this, and the chance to summon him was lost, when the Amulett of Kings was destroyed during the Oblivion crisis? Or am I mixing stuff up now?
...ONE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED AND TEN, TWO THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED AND TEN, THREE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED AND TEN, FOUR THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED AND TEN, FIVE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED AND TEN...
I think it really interesting that the ayleids somehow managed to combine worship of mirridia and molag bal in the same culture they are basically opposities
One of your best works imo. Excellent narrative. I recently downloaded the famous Vigilant mod and I know some of these characters are present there. Now I'm even more excited to play it!
Basically the humans created Akatosh in order for Shor to inhabit the new body of Auriel, having the last laugh against his ancient foe. In the aspect of a dragon, Shor could be the center of mortal faith in the form of his adversary. That's pretty deep, man...
In another twist, this would also imply that the aspect of dreaming yet limitation (Auriel/ Anui-El) and the aspect of dreamless sleep yet infinite possibility (Lorkhan/ Sithis) are one in the same out of Akatosh... The Alessian Order unintentionally created the perfect god avatar for the duality of the dream that keeps the Elder Scrolls universe "existing". Maybe I should stop here before it get too deep down the rabbit hole...
