In this video, you will learn all about optical sorting. How does it work ? What are the challenges ? What materials can we sort ?
Pellenc St Educational Video Tool aims to educate the general public to optical sorting technologies. Both fun and educational, we want this short video to spread existing solutions answering tomorrow’s environmental stakes.
How does spectroscopy work?
Lydia and Paulette are both plastic containers.
These objects are illuminated with white light. Each object absorbs one or more rays of light according to its nature and colour and reflects the rest back. Each object therefore has its own signature.
In the visible, the absorbed rays each correspond to a colour of the rainbow. In the infra red, the absorbed rays correspond to the material of the objects. Then, our machine performs signal analysis and is able to classify materials in different families. The sensors pick up the light returned by the object and locate the missing beam. This absence determines the DNA of the objects.
At the end of the day, Lydia has been recycled into a new bottle and Paulette is now a flowerpot!
