I always wanted a corgi since I was young after I met my neighbors corgi. When I was 15, I got my first dog from a breeder. I raised my little corgi from a puppy to an adult dog. Hes 6 now, and I must say I will never get a different breed of dog in my lifetime. Yes they shed and bark, but they are such wonderful and characterful animals. My corgi and I are inseparable. If anyone out there is considering getting a corgi, do it, you will not regret your decision!
@@dvf4550 She is great with out kids and loves to be right by our sides at all times. Potty training has been a little tough with her but besides that she is a great dog!
I have a Pembroke welsh corgi his name is Dakota he is five years old and I love him so much I raised him since he was a puppy and he has been an absolute godsend in my life he’s my little ray of sunshine and I love him so much I can’t believe how much time has flown by since he was a little puppy it seems like only yesterday when I got him and I can’t believe he’s five years old now I love ❤️ him so much
Mine is named Dakota too, also a Pembroke, and I feel the same about him. He is much older though, 14yo, and I've had him since he was a toddler, lol. We've been through a lot together.
My current pair turned ten this year (different litters) and I'm so not looking forward to losing them. But as a friend once told me " When they pass is when you pay the bill for all the years of love." They count on you being with them when they go. It breaks my heart when someone wimps out on their old pets and refuses to be with them when they pass on.
One of the things I love best about the pems is that they are up for anything. If you want to play they do too. If you want a nap they lay right down to nap with you, no fuss. If you are doing it, they are doing it.
@@dredzik all of my pems have come from show breeders so they have all been docked before I got them. However I certainly don't object to the tail. In horses there is an old saying "a good horse is a good color". Put tails in that context, same thing.
I have an elderly beloved Corgi, definitely a Pembroke, but he has a beautiful tail that I just love. He is now 14, has developed hearing loss, cataracts, and mobility issues this last year, but still manages very well. He can still run although not as far is as long, and use stairs but with difficulty. He is my emotional support animal, and it's going to be very difficult for me when his time comes. I am now elderly myself, though active and healthy. But not sure I'm up to starting over with a new energetic Corgi after he goes. Vet thinks he's got another year or two yet, fortunately.
Have 2 13+ yr old pugs. Lily has cancer, blind in one eye, both lost hearing. Our buddies are the pages of our lives. We are blessed to share time on this blue spinning ball. Im here on this page because we will consider a Pembroke Corgi, and a pug of course for the next chapter when that time comes.
My corgi is aloof... not used to that. Her name is Madam Biscuit Elizabeth. She was pre-named at Minneapolis animal control. She loves to play fight. I love it!! My dog has a long prominent tail though.
Ive had several pairs of pems and my one caution is, the pem is not what I recomend as a good first dog as they can easily outsmart a new dog owner. I currently have a female who was returned to the breeder as she took over the house, bit someone and caused all sorts of havoc. Yes, first dog they ever owned. However, if you have had dogs and know how to be the pack leader there is nothing better. No other breed, I have had a wide variety, is as smart, jovial, kind and loving as a pembroke. Have had cardigans in the house too and they tend to be more a one person dog. I love the gregarious nature of pems. My current pair like nothing better than to meet new people and be utterly charming.
My little pembroke welsh corgi was a great loyal friend. He was not afraid of anything. Easily attack a Doberman who was pooping in his territory he jumped a four foot fence to get st the Doberman sliding under its throat the Doberman took off pursued by my corgi. I got ahold of the little screwball and told its owner don’t come back my corgi will kill your Doberman. He weighed above forty pounds. He was. Good friend. Buried in the hinsdale cemetery illinois cemetery.
I am always amazed by their courage. I was once extolling the virtues of the breed to a real cattle handling cowboy and he was amazed when I told him they can and do herd cattle. I said yeah, they have a lot of attitude. His answer was "if you're asking a 30 pound dog to herd a 3,000 pound cow he better have an attitude!".
Looks like they evolved over the years---the earlier photos, like the ones that Queen Elizabeth had as a child, look more like Swedish Vallhunds---a little taller, rougher coat, and more of a solid brown colour. Seems like they've become more distinct and refined in their appearance. Am I wrong?
Right! Me too. And both my Corgiboy and I are "southpaws" (left-handed). Plus I also have von Willebrand Disease, which Corgis are also prone to. We are both also older with red hair and cataracts. So we have a lot in common, lol.
I got my first Corgi as a puppy then when she went to the Rainbow I started adopting rescues, 3 of them had health issues so their lifespans were only 2.5 years. Now I have a 2 year old black so 3 reds 1 tricolor and 1 black.Great watch dogs.
There are variations in the breed, and you may have what’s called a brown tricolor-they have black on their back. I have a black tricolor-they look the same as puppies but black tricolor corgis ears are black-tipped. My pup is black and white on the face and back is all black.
I literally happened to stumble upon this video! I have been trying to purchase a corgi that looks just like that! Do you know where I could purchase one?😍
If I have one piece of advice it is *never* buy a corgi (or indeed any pet) on the internet. Go to a recognised breeder and see the mother with the pups. You'll pay more but you'll have a much better idea about the dog & it's welfare. The breeder will answer all your questions and they'll also get a fair idea of the person you are and whether you're sufficiently prepared to take on the responsibilities of dog ownership.
I've got two now but they are no 7and 8 owned over 50 years. Wouldn't look at any other breed, I am definitely under their spell, so perhaps the fairy connection is real.
Both corgi types have long tails, if one is short it is because it was mutilated off when they were new born puppies. Corgis do not have naturally stubby tails
Don't write nonsense! Some breeds have genes for natural bobtails. No one disfigured, that's how nature works. I advise you to study the topic before writing.
Actually back in the early days some were born without tails. The docking continued because they were everything dogs, herding, ratting, droving. The breed was used to do everything because their people were at starvation level and could only afford to keep a thrifty dog. That lovey luxuriant tail they grow was dangerous to the dog under many of those circumstances. Don't be hating the people who needed them to work and not be injured. It is becoming less prevalent to dock a tail here in the US too. The showing by laws have changed so undocked tails are now accepted. Give it time, it will go away.
@@Itsakindamagic I totally get that. I’m not hating on the working dogs or outdoor ones. I’m just hating on the ppl that buy them for the aesthetic of the no-tail and the breeders that dock them as babies to sell them to those ppl. I really hate ppl that buy pets that are mutilated for ‘looks’
People always say "what a cute little dogs!" My answer is they are not little, they are short. Any equipment I get for them is size medium. NOT little. Technically they are achondroplasia dwarves in which only the limbs are affected.
Todayyyyyyuhhh I went to the storeeeeeee then got a welsh corgiiiiiiiiiii but it ended up dyinnnnnggggggg. Why do some you tubers speak like this? Jfc 🤦♂️
Sorry this guy is wrong on multiple facts. Um I've had 3 Welsh Corgis and at first their lean but they can gain weight up to 50 lbs without the vet saying anything about them being obese. I took my dogs for runs and swims at least three times a week so to say they don't get up to 40 or 50 lbs is just wrong. When then get older they gain weight. This guy needs to do his homework..And btw all mine were purebred tricolor Welch Corgis. Dyno, DJ(dynojr) and D3(dynothe3rd). I don't think this guy ever had a Corgi in his life
