"Pen15" creators Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine break down the absurdity of their writing process for the Hulu series, which features the creators as they play two 13-year-olds in the midst of their middle school puberty prime. Joined by comedian Chelsea Peretti, this conversation was presented as part of Variety's Power of Women: Conversations panel.
“We realized with the comedy, we had to keep grounding it because it was already insane that we are playing 13 year olds,” Erskine said. “Because we are doing it at this age, I think everything has to be as grounded as possible and have moments [that are] surreal or absurdist.”
