@Ari Abend Asian people never thought that foreigners willing to eat hawker food. They always assume the white people will eat at high end restaurants and eat only western food. So, seeing someone like Dale eating at a hawker centre, they have a mini culture shock that someone other than them eating their kind of food.
Little tip: always use the other hand while handling the large spoon to pour in curry. The spoon is messed up if you use the hand you're eating with to do the job. It gets uncomfortable for other people to use it. It's actually a table etiquette here in the east. (Side note: You didn't leave any tip at the first restaurant.)
I throughly appreciate your currency translations to USD/GBP it total adds a whole different dimension to the value of your travels,so many suggestions/advice for travellers to find bargains, great food, avoid unnecessary costs and especially recognising scammers 👍
Hi my friend .. How are you?? Even though we haven't met with each other , I always feel, as you're my friend while watching your videos .. nice Dale keep it up ..🙋♂️
Love your food videos Dale. It's nice to see how you truly immerse yourself in the culture by eating like the locals. I'm jealous you can stay so fit while eating all that yummy food ☺️☺️
Hey Tale! I've been showing ur vids to my family now when i visited them over the holidays, so you got a few new followers. Thanks for sharing ur journey with us. Cheers from Sweden
I would like to suggest you to visit the states of Kelantan and Terengganu which shares striking difference in their local Malay accent with other states in the Peninsular, which I affectionately call them the Scotland of Malaysia. Their Nasi Kerabu is nice!
I feel proud, I was born in malaysia but moved to Scotland when i was 7 and lived there for about 4 and a half years. 😁😁 I would like to run into him by accident and say a nice "hello".
@@awadhariz1496 i dont think so...as example char kuey tiaw which is famous among malay is original from Chinese cuisine...but yeah..most of the food here is malay
Hey Dale! Im a Malaysian & thanks for coming to Malaysia! I've been watching your India and Sri Lanka vlogs & was wondering if you would make a trip to Malaysia. 🤙Awesome job, mate! 🤙Penang is famous for tourist traps tho, but the food is what stands out about it. Stay safe, mate! (Especially during these pandemic times) Just a quick request. Please do a video about Scotland too. I have ancestors who were Scottish and would love to see what Scotland has to offer, since Im never gonna be able to take a trip there.
12:11 Dale, you always left the key in your bike. Be careful of bike thieves, here in Indonesia is not safe to leave the key hanging in bike. I love your content :)
Nice video mate 👌 £4,50 for all that food , looked yummy 😋 i do like watching the food vlogs , dumplings 🥟 are my favourite... keep up the good work ❤️💙
Oh, fantastic: your lunch served in a giant leave!!! This thing is wonderful 😍! I like very, very much, this thing!!! The dessert with ice cream: noooooooo 🤣... Fantastic and delicious... Incredible! In Europe is an "utopia"!!! Discovery of traditions is ever a great richness of knowledge! Thanks, Dale, for this video! Roberto
17:10 the ability of putting all kinds of non-matching flavors (doesn't matter what, but it must be sweet) on top of each other and calling it food is definitely an asian speciality :D
OOhh Dearie I got distracted by the two lovely Lassies as you were eating your Chinese Dumplings Dale ! I had to replay your VLOG a few times as I got distracted again and again !! Ice Kachang looks nice !
Trust me, he was smiling because a "Amo gao" is buying his food. If I were to go there, he would not even give me a smile or even cared. To him, it just a transaction.
I remember those ice Kacang...lovely...for banana leaf in Our Country Indonesia called nasi Liwet..ate together with few people in one long banan leaf...Enjoy trip Dale.keep Healthy so we can always can see yourupdate,,God Bless you
I really enjoy your videos. Especially those crazy adventures! But these Penang videos are ready awesome. I was born in Penang. But have been living in the USA for 20+ years. So nice to see my hometown through an adventurous and funny Scotsman! I appreciate how respectful you are as you learn more about new cultures. Keep up the good work! Hope your ankle is better. p/s: there’s a way to to fold your banana leaves after your meal to show if you enjoyed it or not. I have to look it up. 😊 I think it’d wither folder it away or toward you. But don’t remember which is good. 😊
I read that they fold the upper part to the lower to show they are content with the meal. But nowadays people do it to hide the food they didn't eat. haha I think I better leave it open to show I ate it all. :)
You are a sweet man Dale. Bit of a clumsy bum but the Scottish accent and lovely approach to people makes up for it! Will keep watching and I have subscribed. I bet your taste in food has grown astronomically...well done as it’s not a common thing for UK citizens to have a broad palate.
I love how you always explore the city’s where the tourist aren’t are you see where the people live and how it’s like over there. I love your videos dude. Have a nice day/night.
Ohh I am so glad you tried ABC (ice Katang), ABC is a little different, not so much chunky fruit! I love it! I said you would like it, a while ago 🙂 All banana leaf restaurants are the same as the one you went to. Only use 2 fingers and the thumb btw. Very good you only used your right hand to eat. Great hygiene!
Dale is now very Sri Lankan than anyone else. LOL, there was a guy like you in 16th century called Robert Knox , an English sailor, became so friendly with locals and decided to reside in Sri Lanka for a long time. He even has written a book called An Historical Relation of the Island Ceylon. Ya, it was a book coz they didn't have youtube at that time :). BTW, thanks for helping this Sri Lankan community who are involved in tourism biz.
My Aunt originally from Glasgow lives in Penang. Retired there about 15 years ago and I can see why she’s stayed there! That food looks fantastic, Dale. Good to see you also stayed at Atlantis in Dubai, we were there last year and I didn’t try the beef wellington which after watching you I’m now regretful!!

@@VinceKitter when we're eating with families it's fine. I might use just my hand to take fried foods, or clean my right hand with tissue, or simply use my left hand for the ladle. But when we eat gravy or soup, we use spoon
people commenting on his expressions when eating. haha I guess it is somewhat comical but I like it. with food, it can be hard to tell how it tastes on video, so it really helps that he's being expressive even if it is exaggerated. It's not just his expressions though, he describes the food and his actions and body language show it's all genuine.
At the end of the video, he was walking towards the other side of Gurney Drive. The Gurney Hawker centre is at the end of one side of Gurney Drive. The way he was walking there is nothing special there at that time of the night, except some bars further down the road about 15 minutes walk. There are a few hotels there, and 2 shopping malls. Gurney Plaza and Paragon Mall.
love to see u traveling around Medan and samosir.. i stay at bandung indonesia, if u have any plan come to bandung city, just let me know. and ill be ur guide here dale.

27:20 you say that’s 1/3 of a full meal but here that is already 75-80% of a full meal lol. Staying true to the foodie name and it really shows how well you can pull off these kind of food videos
