Thank you for that! But to be honest, I am hit and miss with my palette a lot of the time. You just don't see the ones I screw up! haha So, I really appreciate you saying you like it!
See... Great minds think alike. I was literally just working with my ooku set. Actually, I'm trying to working some of my python. Scripting skills to " auto swatch the colors in hue order" but that is a longer running project. Lolol. If I ever get it working the way I envision, I'll send it to you to see if it lives up to an actual "artists eye" for color arrangement. Frankly, my eye is not nearly as discerning and I later wonder "why I thought those 2 colors might be analogous" lolol.
I tell you, it is definitely rough waters to navigate. Every single time I set out to create another Family Swatch sheet it gives me a little bit of a headache. Don't get me wrong, it's well worth it because I constantly use them....but man oh man what a headache!
I'm happy I'm not the only one. I love these pencils and I was chasing them for over a year because every time I tried to buy, they were out of stock! 😅 I love how they lay down and blend. I'm fighting myself to not hoard another set, lol.
@@Superfluffyfish @valerielboss I swear to all that is holy....it was near perfect when editing everything. I usually listen to it on a few different computers before posting it (because everyone's speakers sound a little different.) So, I hate that it might have ruined the video a bit. I promise I will try to fix it by the next Pencil Appreciation video...promise 😉
These are QL-C120 pencils with the ooku branding on the ends. white label dupes again! The QL pencils are cheaper, exactly the same and available in 120 and 150 sets.
I really wonder if us hobby colourists bought a high end set to begin with we wouldn’t be buying set after set looking for the perfect pencil and spending far more money than would have.
I can't speak for everyone but for me...there is no perfect set. I have, what most would consider, the "perfect" sets. Prismacolor, Luminance, Polychromos, Holbein...etc. But I think when you love coloring and love colored pencils, the thing I love IS the exploration of different sets. The way they each feel, layer, blend, and how they go down on paper...THIS is what I love! But yes...it does add up when it comes to $$$. But I figure there are WAY worse things we could be spending out money on...why not spend it on something we love 🥰
The least precious supplies get used the most. Do I use the brand-name drawing papers I have for colored pencil work? Not much. Do I pull out the mystery brand "trash book" I got on clearance at Ross? You betcha, all the time. Also, there's a lot to like about these pencils: the printing on the barrel is large and thick enough to be easily legible. That pearly paint on the end is a nice touch, plus the build quality is better than Prismacolors.
it's definitely better than the newer Prismacolors! haha I think we gravitate to our cheaper sets because we don't worry about messing them up as much. I'm the same way. If I pull out my Polychromos, I need to make sure the thing I am coloring is Faber-Worhty haha And because I don't really care what I am coloring with a set like Ooku, I think that simply makes them more fun.
