Years ago when I first saw this film I was blown away by the dialogue. Crisp, witty, minimal and loaded with tension. This film should have received an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay. Alvin Sargent is without question one of Hollywood's all-time greatest screenwriters.
2023 here. I love coming back to these scenes. I was there, when this made sense! Im blue collar so not happy about it but i understood. The important part though is the anti Luddite speech.
you know something ... I looked for this movie in dvd, vhs, any other support in stores ... nothing ... I picked an order online ... It tooked more than a month ... well worth waiting for ... brilliant movie indeed
@TimAZ9 I love the way she looks at him for a few seconds there when she realizes he can't be embarrassed. She's curious and attracted in spite of herself.
"Got to be hungry to have a donut. Why, it don't taste better that way?" "How would you know?" Woof, that might be the sharpest and subtlest fat joke I've ever heard. Saying he wouldn't know if a donut tasted better when he was hungry because he never waits to find out...
The best thing about this movie is that the entire thing is just a game to him. If she hadn't gotten on the case he would have destroyed New England Wire and Cable much sooner.

DeVito absolutely nailed this performance. Garfield's not just a greedy, arrogant corporate raider sitting on piles of money. He's got weaknesses and soft spots as well. DeVito masterfully took us deeper into Garfield's more sensitive psyche.

Yes, I agree. To say that she's a hottie is an understatement. I'd love to get a series of vidcaps of where the camera pans up from her shoes to her face and photoshop them into one big full length picture of her.
