It is most definitely pronounced Toe-kye. Rhymes with rye. 100% no fakies. Sounds like a delicious bottle though

I like it but the issue is it's kind of like the voyage wild turkey rum finished . Did they leave wet barrels when they dumped it was there just a tiny bit in the barrels like wine or rum because the color should not be that dark unless it had something in there to mix with just my thinking it's a pretty dark 8-year-old being 60 years I've been around lol unfortunately and I always try to do a lot of maybe overthinking these days since things have changed so much personally I prefer the '80s I still have plenty of dusties and for some reason whatever they were doing back then is different than now especially wild turkey and Jim beam? Makes you wonder where the trees older growth? Who knows

Wonderful bottle. Way better than MWND. Solid age statement.

You guys just continually keep doubling down on the incorrect pronunciation of Tokaji 😂 Its not Japanese its Hungarian..think Toe-kye

Penelope is one of my current favorites. I love the Barrel Strength Toasted and if you can find the Private Select bottles, those are out of this world.

Haven't tried any of the Penelope yet. Thanks for the review. I'll try the lower rye mash bills first.. My head is still in the JD 12 year clouds.

The J is silent in the pronunciation, or listen to how Fred Minnick correctly pronounces it

You are incorrect, and Fred is (i hate to inform you) a human being.

First of all, it is pronounced "Toka-yee!". Yes, it sounds very Japanese... but Hungarian. Second... I cannot believe they got only a bronze at the San Francisco Spirit Competition. The dude judging it probably had no clue what Tokaj Wine is. What a shame... I just got it for $113 (I hate taxes). Totally worth it. I'll get a couple more bottles for the cellar.

90 bucks for a score of 3/5? Seems like you could find better out there.
@TheAverageDrinker
@TheAverageDrinker 7 месяцев назад
Fair enough! 3/5 is a great score. And I know that the finishing on this particular whiskey is really expensive. It’s an 8 year old whiskey. So based on palate preference and all the above, $90 is a good price. I will definitely be enjoying this with cigars regularly. Cheers!! Thanks for watching!

I personally found it phenomenal. Plus an extra credit for a tokaji barrel. What surprised me was that it got only a bronze at SF World Spirit Competition... I expected at least a Single Gold. As a guy who drinks Tokaj Wine once in a while, I think it represents a the finishing cask perfectly. Pronounced "Toka-yee", by the way.

Dara doesn't give fair reviews. A bad whiskey is "okay" or a 2.5/5 to her and a good whiskey is a 4.5/5. An overly oaked whiskey is a 5/5 guaranteed tho.

@@markyacono5180 Actually the only one I've heard decent things about was the light whiskey 14 year? I believe, supposedly that one is really good
@briankerr2628

The basic four grain is decent. Architect, Valencia and rose cask are awesome. Not a fan of their toasted or barrel strength. Haven’t tried this, Rio, or the 9yr of which many people rave about. Everyone’s taste is different so maybe try instead of pass.
