eBaTT Tutorial
A Basic overview of how a traditional pen-hold style is played and what are the differences between shake hand and penhold grip.
In this video, we have a special guest (David Tan) he was a professional player many moon's ago and still plays in his local league (top division). David is a traditional penholder and this means he favours his forehand and rarely uses the backhand side.
David talks a little about the grip and both forehand and backhand techniques.
Forehand:
Is described by David as short and fast when playing close to the table and big and powerful when playing away from the table.
Backhand:
The backhand is played with the forehand side of the bat and is generally a weaker stroke for a traditional pen-hold player. But the advantages are; change of direction with subtle adjustments and no crossover point.
Bonus Tip - Develop great footwork if you wish to play traditional pen-hold table tennis
