Mate this looks awesome! Can't wait to try. One thing, Islay is pronounced "eye-luh" (if that was Laphroaig you used, couldn''t show label for obvious reasons). Cheers!

Hi Jaime, Thank you for the beautiful cocktail recipe. I made it at home and my husband loved it. Although I had a bit of a trouble making the ginger and honey syrup. It turned out delicious but the colour of the syrup is cloudy. Almost like a toffee. In your video it looked so clear and a nice honey colour. I winder how can I make the same colour. Do you use any water while simmering the syrup and how long do you simmer it for?
@fabiovedroni560
@fabiovedroni560 3 года назад
By the color of this syrup, there is no way he made with 2 parts of ginger juice and 1 part of honey. I got this one recipe from the world-class mixologist: 100gr of finely chopped ginger 1 cup water 1 cup honey Bring that to a boil in a saucepan, reduce to a simmer and let that simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, let it cool down from room temp and then you have it. This syrup will have the consistency and same color you see in this video.

Grazie comunque, ciao!

I don't like it by itself, but I am growing to like it in mixed drinks. Also make sure it is very chilled so you can taste the flavour and not the alcohol.

There's also a Balvenie Carribean Cask you might want to look into if you want to get into scotch.

It's called a penicillin because it's hot toddy like? I don't quite understand. Does penicillin refer to something different in the UK than it does here in the US? Here in the US penicillin is the name of an antibiotic medication and is the word's most common use.
@kristina80ification
@kristina80ification 8 лет назад
Senor Brown Actually, now rewatching I don't get it even more, since he said that the drink originates from the US, maybe he just isn't aware what the word actually means over here, or maybe he was just already drunk by sampling too many of them before the shoot. :P
@facecrash24
@facecrash24 8 лет назад
Penicillin was discovered in Scotland - trust me, Jamie and everybody else knows the antibiotic. He's relating it to a hot toddy which is a drink using similar ingredients that is often used in the winter months as a mother's-remedy for colds. Hence the medicinal name of this drink. :)
@aferguson850
@aferguson850 8 лет назад
i think it's because some recipes for it use vermouth that gives it a slightly medicinal taste. Or maybe it's because of the slightly medicinal/iodine flavour you sometimes get with islay whisky
@adamg.manning6088
@adamg.manning6088 8 лет назад
Also, like Penicillin, all the ingredients are "grown" (as tenuous as that sounds) the barley, the flowers for the honey, the lemon, the ginger. And yes, the drink is meant to be a cure all.
@PatrickKrawczykowskiDesigner
@PatrickKrawczykowskiDesigner 8 лет назад
hot toddy is often had when you have a cold or flu, its associated with healing or soothing. The penicillin is a play on that but a refreshing medicine.

why would you shake instead if stirring, it seems like shaking would just dilute the taste
@assassintwinat8
@assassintwinat8 7 лет назад
I've heard you want some dilution in some cocktails, but I think shaking is to help get it fizzy
@papasascha2465
@papasascha2465 7 лет назад
Lawliet Ryuzaki you stirr the cocktail if you have only alcoholic parts in it, it will come together and there is no need of shaking. If you have other liquids like fruit juice or syrups in it you need to shake it because otherwhise the drink won't come together that nice but you're right there is more dilution when you shake the drink

This is very dark ginger syrup. Are You sure about parts of ginger to honey?
@DrinksTube

Yep! But you can always adjust your own syrup to suit your own tastes.
@Johnny-Joseph

If you peel the ginger with a spoon before you grate it then the syrup will be a lot lighter, I kinda like the darkness though!
