I have a senator I'm thinking of restoring. Would it be possible to separate the metal casing from those brown resin end caps? I'd like to strip down the metal and powder coat it. I also need to make a new handle, maybe with my 3D printer. Thanks for this video!

@@capt.joshgrolling61 Thanks so much! I found another senator breakdown video and the guy did have the resin end caps off so thankfully its possible. Ive also seen some custom aluminum aftermarket side plates yesterday. I do powder coating so that would be excellent. Thanks for this video. Wasnt going to bother taking it apart but after watching this and a few other vids ive got it on my kitchen table right now ready to rebuild. Might have a bad dog pin but it could just be corrosion or buildup. We'll see!
As I do, when I repair them for use. Being that this was solely for the purpose of making a video, I left it dry for ease of viewers seeing the different parts inside the reel.
-Depending on the thickness of the washers that your 4/0 has in its drag system, it will either be a "3 washer or 5 washer" set up. Both styles will have a smaller plastic looking washer that rides on the bridge sleeve, below the main gear. Then slide the main gear onto the bridge sleeve, then begin adding your drag washers. (Fiber, and Metal) You will add one fiber washer first in both the 3 and the 5 washer set ups. Then the "square holed" washer, fiber, washer with the "ears" or "nipples", fiber, and the second square holed washer, and one more fiber. (fiber, metal pattern 3 times) This is the end of the drag washers if you have the 3 washer setup. -If you still have 2 fiber washers, and one square holed and one nippled washer then you have the 5 washer set up. You would simply continue in the same pattern to finish adding the rest of the washers. This would continue as: fiber, nipple washer, fiber, square washer. I hope this helps, good luck and if all else fails, tear it down and put it back together. Sometimes even for me, that will suddenly make the reel work, even knowing that I could build these in my sleep. They can be headache, but for whatever reason sometimes just doing it again makes all the difference.
David Gacia are you asking about the spring that works the release lever, or the pair of springs that engage and disengage the pinion gear? Either one can be ordered through the mail online.
