Hey guys, I just wanted to post a quick video, just really talking about the three main differences that truly are the only part that really matter when it comes to comparing the pen battle three, versus the pin spend Fisher six. And really it's the there's one feature that I think is really the one that matters when it comes to these. I've been doing a bunch of research because they're so similarly priced. I like both of them. I use both of them. Like what, what is the actual difference? Um, probably should have figured those out before I bought them. But anyways, um, one, you know, and it depends on the real size. Uh, so you know, these, when there's 3000 or 5,000, it's going to change a little bit when you change the sizes. But in general, the max drag on the battle is a little bit less than the spend Fisher.
Meaning the spend Fisher is going to be able to fight a little bit bigger of a fish. So in this particular size, it's a three pound difference. Um, not a huge difference, but that is one of them. Okay. Um, number two is going to be the weight. So the spend Fisher is slightly heavier. So some people would prefer to have the lighter reel. Um, some people would prefer to have the heavier reel, the heavier, one's going to feel a little bit more quality, but it's going to be a little bit heavier. Um, I use both and I can say it is a notable, noticeable difference, but it really doesn't mean anything to me. It's not like gonna change the way I fish or make me tired at the end of the day. You know, it's not that big of a difference. Here's the big difference that, um, I finally was like, oh, okay, I get it now. Uh,
It's this right here. It's the, the IPX five, um, sealed. Okay. So the,
In this, you know, correct me if I'm wrong in the comments, um, and definitely chime in, give me your, your info, your, your insights into this. Um, but the
Battle three is sealed, but
It's kinda like partially sealed, right? So from what I understand the battle three, if you're like riding in the boat or, um, you know, you're standing in the surf and you get like a wave that hits this or, or spray that hits this, you're all good. Like it's good, you know, wash it off, keep it clean, take good care of it, but it's not like it's going to lock up the entire reel. If you just get a little bit of saltwater on this, uh, now from, from what I've read, if you are
Technically reeling. So you're reeling while a wave
Hits this, there's a chance that the salt water gets in there and kind of gums it up. Okay. Again, correct me in the comments if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty much are pretty sure that that's the case now when it comes to the spend Fisher, because it's literally like, this is a certification for being a waterproof. If it's IPX five seal, that means that it can take everything that the battle could take in terms of the splashes and the waves and everything. And even if you are reeling, it's probably not going to matter and get in there and mess things up. Um, on top of that, uh, look up, you'll have to Google IPX five in terms of like the specs, but it can literally go underwater. Um, I think it's to like one meter or something like that for X amount of minutes before, um, it could possibly take on water.
So obviously don't hold this under salt water. Um, no one's going to do that, but like, let's say it fell into the water or you accidentally like dropped your arm into the water or something. It's, it's not going to ruin the real, whereas that's not guaranteed on the battle. So that certification means something. And that is the difference that really, I think, stands out in terms of helping you make a decision between these two, whether you want to pay the premium for the spend Fisher or not along with the max drag. So I just figured I'd post. If you guys have any comments, questions, insights, tips, anything like that, make sure to put them in the comments below and guys, please subscribe to my channel. I'm trying to grow this channel. I want to do lots of giveaways for these reels and all kinds of fun stuff. Um, and I'm just trying to grow the channel. So every subscription matters at this point. Thanks guys.

The spinfisher would have gotten an ipx6 rating but the live liner had an area that couldn't be sealed completely so to save confusion they just gave them all ipx5

I wasn't fishing and had a sinus infection so I figured I'd try to crack the holy grail and post a video about it! 😂 Let me know if you guys have any questions on these two reels or have some advice or differences you've noticed as well!

Went surfing fishing for corvina in Del mar, California. I used a penn battle 111 2000. I think a eopard shark grabbed the bait and started running. The drag worked flawlessly. Unfortunately I used too light a line and it broke. I also dunked it and it still works perfect. I'm impressed.

The Battle only has sealed bearings. Any other part of the reel is susceptible to water intrusion and damage. The Spinfisher is almost a completely sealed reel, complete with O-rings, lip-seals, and gaskets. The only place the Spinfisher is not physically sealed is between the rotor and the body. Both are amazing reels and would do well in most environments. That said, if you know your gear will be splashed continuously or frequently with salt water, I'd go with the Spinfisher.

The bearings and drag on battle are both sealed but that's it. The gearbox isn't whereas on the spinfisher it is

You are absolutely correct. There was a video here made by an indonesian guy ( with english subtitile). He dismantled everything the spinfisher as he was interested on IPx5 rating.

Hey man, just came across the videos. Ill be down in cherry grove / north myrtle for thanksgiving week. Would you recommend fishing the surf or the inlet at cherry grove that time of year for trout/red fish/flounder. And where would you cast and on what tide if you fished the inlet. Thanks and love the videos so far,

Hey Matthew, thanks for tuning in! Sounds like fun! I’ll be down there fishing in Georgetown around the same time. Was out this past week as well. This time of year, the tides can come in really high and the surf can be really rough. With that said, it’s also the time of year when big bull drum will present themselves in the surf along with the usual suspects (slot and puppy drum, black drum, trout and flounder). So if your only able to fish on the beach, find a nice rip and I would try to fish it on a calmer incoming tide. Maybe wait until the tide is all the way up and calmer. Same goes for a low tide, but what I find this time of year is tough for most people to cast past the larger breaking waves and those same waves kind of cover up the rips and discourage fish from gathering there. Most importantly, I look for calmer tides this time of year and try to fish the end of rips. Now if you can make it to inlet, that exactly where I’d be. Just try to fish a moving tide. Incoming or outgoing should be productive. The big reds will be swimming through and maybe even schooling up for you. A big chunk of fresh mullet on a circle hook will be hard for them to resist. This time of year can sometimes take patience, but once you get into them, it can be a killer day bc they’re usually all together in schools. I fished for about 4 hours on Friday morning. Took almost 2 hours to catch a fish worth mentioning, but then with 30 minutes I had a grand slam and hit almost all my limits. 👍 Tight lines and let me know how you do!

Nice video. On another note, why is no one talking about the Spinfisher VI that has a 4.3:1 gear ratio and 37” inches per turn? Nice torque for a spinning reel imo.

Yea man definitely the main difference is that IPX 5 rating and how it will protect the reel better against Saltwater and sand. Also, something people don’t know is that the normal spinfisher VI ( not the Long Cast or the Live Liner) is actually just as sealed as the Slammer III which has an IPX 6 rating. The other 2 versions have more openings where water can potentially enter so Penn decided to give the whole grouping an IPX 5 when it reality the normal Spinfisher is an IPX 6 with the exact identical seals and number of seals as the Slammer III. I can find the video with that info if you don’t believe me

You know, the sealed reels are awesome. IP Ratings are great but in all honesty Penn and some others have been around for decades prior to this Rating nonsense and those reels have held up great (provided they were cared for and maintained) even when dropped in the water. Let’s keep it 100 and say fishing has been around A LONG TIME, how many reels have gotten wet or dunked and afterwards cleaned up and continued to work as long as they weren’t complete cheap pieces garbage. So yeah it’s great for being rated but really is it worth paying more? Not my hard earned money.
