Just ordered exact setup based on your video. I was about to spend $650 on an Accurate 2 speed valiant 600. My brother has been using a Fathom 40 and I didn’t realize they had a 25 until I watched this. His 40 is a beast. For the price of the Accurate Iam getting the Tiger rod with the 25 and a 40 for bridge tarpon and grouper. 2 for one. Thanks!
Sorry to be offtopic but does anybody know a way to get back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot the account password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Dario Miles thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Funny, I just bought my first Fathom 25 for the same reasons. My Toriums bearings rust up easily and was costing me shop repair. The main reason I swapped was high speed is no good for big bottom fish. You need that low gearing to turn big grouper. My Tiger jigging rod I fell in love with in the store when I read the capacity of it and felt its weight. I swear I can feel a snapper breath on my bait. Very sensitive. I first put my Torium 16 on it until I bought the Fathom 2 speed 25. The reviews are great on the Fathom and at $226 at Walmart it’s half the price of a Talica 12 or a Penn Torque. I put it on my Tiger lite jigging rod and am now anxious to head my boat to the Snapper banks and give my dream combo a try.
Awesome man. I've been using the Fathoms for about 18 months now and I've not had one malfunction from any reel. I also bought some of the Fathom 40's. They have much more line capacity and more drag, but I prefer the weight of the 25's. Still love the 40's, but they are a little heavier than the 25's and you can tell it after holding them all day.
@@TeamBuckRogers I ended up going with the 7 ratio. It did just fine in Mexico. Dropped the bottom for a 25+ pound sea bass and did well for trolling mahi-mahi
can't speak on the new toriums, but the older ones (gray) were pretty good except they are susceptible to corrosion on the inside, and the anti reverse dogs are garbage
Is the shock leader for more strength for if the fish gets in a ledge? I did this also for that reason and because it’s a lot easier to get untangled if you catch another persons line. I use 80 lb trilene Big Game mono. What shock leader do you use and what knot do you join the braid with? Thanks. I subbed. Great videos.
It's probably not a fair comparison in terms of specific application reels. Torium is a surf casting reel, which can be used anywhere. The Fathom model you have, is a low ratio level drag, meant for boat use. Compare apples to apples and try the same kind of reel. Shimano Tyrnos is what you should have been using on the boat. I have both fathoms, old toriums and the newer Torium HG. The Fathom star is a casting machine, so choose the correct reel for the application.
I disagree too...the Shimano is better in two areas...higher price and fancy name. I use Shimano exclusively for my bass fishing reels, but trolling kings etc. Pen Fathom FTW!
