I just bought a 114H with the idea of redoing it. It has obviously taken an impact as the star is bent and the drag is stuck. I am hoping i can straighten the star and everything else is ok. Thanks for this video. Will disassemble soon. I've never done it before. More will be revealed!!

Never used one of these but have heard. They are very good reliable bulletproof reels for the money. Cleared up some time from work over the weekend in the next coming week so hope everything is going well with you.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
Email me so I can put you on my schedule... It's filling up quick, and I know you've waited years for this opportunity. It's mahi season.

Another great video Heath. I clean all my gun parts using an ultrasonic cleaner as well as all my brass. You might think about using an ultrasonic cleaner for all those parts save a lot of time and get them ultra clean. Be well, my friend.

I also bought a harbor freight ultrasonic cleaner when I was doing maintenance on 4 Senators, and 4 Internationals.

Never heard of it. Thanks a million.

Hi Heath, It looks like you did this many times before. You made it look easy. When I lived in NJ, the wintertime was reel and tackle maintenance time. Now that I live in FL, I can fish all year round. I still rinse my rod and reel and give them a little WD-40 after fishing. Say "Hi" to the Crew. Take care and good luck, Mickey
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
Hi Mickey, I'm the same way.... I usually procrastinate until something starts acting funny... then I'll putz around with it and get it working right. Hope everything is going good for you. Bringing my boat nack to Boca at the end of the week. Talk to you soon.

You made this look way too easy. Bought a bunch of these from a retired charter captain. Getting that dog and spring to stay in place with the screw was key. I was trying to stack everything before starting the screw. Will be watching this video on the rest of them

Beautiful historic reel, with what rod can you combine it ?

It works well with any 50-80 lb class trolling rod... I prefer all roller guides... Aftco or Ocean Master

I have some good potential video ideas I’d like to throw your way, one that crossed my mind was a rod and reel, arsenal video, figured that would be pretty interesting
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
Guess you missed this... I did it a little over a year ago. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w3OqelQH0mU.html

The stock handle is short...is there a longer one that you recommed?

Thanks Heath.. Question - SWFL (Marco) - I have two Senators 4/0 High Speed. Can I use them to troll on the East coast. FLL area. Planer for Wahoo??
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
The 4-0 are a little small for both planer and high speed. I'd use a minimum of the 6-0's . The 4-0's are great for top water mahi, Tuna, wahoo & kings, they just can't handle the pressure of the more extreme trolling tactics. Hope this helps.

I just bought one of these and the spool has a gap when turning it up and down is that normal or does it need to be tightened up
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
No there shouldn't be any gap... there is a slight wabble, but no gap. If you just bought it and it's problematic I'd try to return it. If you've owned it past the return date, then you may have to see what you can do to fix it.

Found your video while im researching about my newly acquired vintage diawa seiko dynamic 5000d Trying to look for the specs, info, ratio and etc about this reel, but no luck Until i saw penn sanator and your video , everything look so similar with this reel Do you know anything about this daiwa seiko reel, so i can get replacement parts or service it myself since many shop i want to refused to take this reel in for service

All reels are kind of similar, you are correct. I have no clue when it comes to that reel. I would look on facebook for a group that is dedicated to fixing fishing reels, maybe someone can offer you some direction and insight.

How long did it take you to put it back together I almost sent mine to the bait shot lol

About 30 minutes. Considering I was filming and BS'ing at the same time. Then again I've done many... not to say I wasn't completely lost the first time though 🤣

My 6/0 has oil impregnated bushings instead of ball bearings.

some different year models have diffferent parts and pieces, but the general concept is the same. Mine is an older model.

It has it's place, high enough gear ratio, large spool capacity and also take a beating. These can be had in decent condition for $50. Perfect for someone who has a hard time spending the koneu for an international or an Avet

@SOPhenix-np6cl Год назад
@@waddell7354 I guess man. If you can only afford to spend $50 on a reel I feel sorry for you. I would never use this on a charter boat which I run… poor man’s reel for sure….
@waddell7354
@waddell7354 Год назад
I would not call it a poor man's reel. Just because it's old school doesn't mean it can't put in work. With just a tiburon frame, they become pretty damn close to bulletproof. I fish for pacific halibut and albacore with a 112h (high speed 3/0) thing has put in some serious work.
@SOPhenix-np6cl
@SOPhenix-np6cl Год назад
@@waddell7354 with you bud. I hear you. I am from west coast. Ain’t no one ever hear about a senator. We fish high quality reels. Silicon money. I mean no disrespect but why do we want to fish a dinosaur when you can fish something recent?
@waddell7354
@waddell7354 Год назад
@SOPhenix1855 I think the batter question is, why not? My bottom fishing reel is a penn 349 super mariner. Upgraded the drag stack, and it produces 38 lbs of drag. Gear ratio might be 3:1, but with how tall the spool is, it has 49" per crank. I can outrun most modern reels with the same amount of drag and I've spent less than $65. Plus, parts are readily available and cheap. Think of it this way, I fish out of humboldt bay. I have to be ready for bottomfish, pacific halibut, salmon and california halibut. They all take different tackle. By the time I buy all the new modern stuff we're talking upwards of $2k. And if I'm outfitting a boat, we can just triple that. I do run a new penn fathom 2 for my slow pitch setup. But next to that will be a combination of both old and new reels.

Great video, Heath. The only things I would say are that the left side spool bearing should get a drop of oil. And maybe show the setting of the spool tension with the tensioner. You want to tighten it until just when all the play is out of the spool.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
Thanks for the tips 😁
@moshesmoving
@moshesmoving Год назад
The Penn schematic for these black side plate all-post (no frame) models shows a coil spring between the spool tensioner and the spool. Didn’t see one in the video. I know these 6/0 were sold for a long time and went through some changes over the years so maybe there was a version without a spring?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@@moshesmoving yes, they have changed things several times. But they are generally the same. The in the video is a more dated one.
