This gives me chills, It's eerily foreshadowing. Just 38 days from the day this posted, Paterno would be fired, and the legacy forever darkened. The legacy of who WE ARE cannot be broken by 1 man, 1 official, or 1 coach. Tradition doesn't work like that. I think we need an old school highlight video for 2019... it's time to get back to basics.
Great video. Awesome University. For over a century and a half we have not had any negative attention. Players, students, Alumni and staff define class. We are moving forward, we don't live in the past. We are not responsible for the actions of a former employee. Joe Paterno is a class act and a great football coach. I'll take my PSU experience, degree, and six figure salary and laugh in the face of anyone who talks unconfirmed nonsense. Stay strong and proud, hold the course. #WEARE
R.I.P joe pa. u always had this michigan fans respect. i dont care about the scandal you were still a great man and cared deeply for penn state and your players. god bless u and all that u sacrificed for college football. the big ten and college football will never be the same.
I see this video whenever I go to a Penn State football game!! Always gives me chills because of how awesome it is! The song is a perfect fit to this amazing video! Always gives me chills watching this. -Freshman at Penn State University Park! -David
FOR THE GLORY OF OLD STATE! SUCCES WITH HONOR! We will not let the actions of a few men change the moral standards of our great university. We will continue to live honorably and love Penn State. Traditiion is Penn State and we can not let this great tragedy overshadow all of the great things that have gone on here. Hopefully people will start to understand and respect the true meaning of being a Penn Stater as time moves on. We can only hope. WE ARE..
I'm so hurt to see all the negative comments on videos like this...I love my school! I wish the amazing things we did got more attention instead of situations the media skews in order to boost their ratings. THON, Lunar Lion, all the research that is conducted at Penn State that help improve people's lives everyday (just to name a few). We may not be the best at everything, but I have never been somewhere like this school where there is room to help you grow to your greatest potential.
@HarlequinBuckeye Actually there's been more than handful of Buckeye fans who have been especially understanding given how both schools are under scrutiny of scandal. And for that I personally think we should be grateful. The OSU student section gave a standing ovation to the Penn State players as they left the field, both teams have class. We hate each other in a different way than we often think.
I totally agree about the severity, I never said anything about that. My point is that we shouldn't lose sight of other scandals committed by grown men and women affecting the lives of college students/athletes, programs and reputations. Just because one is the most horrible kind of scandal, doesn't lessen the others. One other thing, each one of the scandals I listed had cover up, so don't think that no one in those situations acted differently.
The only thing that would make this better is if there were a live "We are" chant at the end instead of random crowd noise. Other than that, this video is spectacular.
Is there a way to get a copy of the video so that I can put it on my Homepage of my RU-vid channel? I see others do something similar and I can't figure it out. Thanks.
Forget the past remember the Alma Mater "May no act of ours bring shame" dont be discriminated over one un human being, the acts of monster take us down. Dont be down and angered over a legends death. You remember it and all he has done for the University. If it wasnt for him, they wouldnt have had the Paterno Library. The education wouldnt have been as good. The traditions wouldnt have been the same. Just remember one thing We Are and always will be Penn State. -from the heart of 14 year old
@guarddog22 It's where I met all of my best friends, it's where I chose to pay to get a degree, and it's where I've had experiences that I won't ever forget. It's a business yes, but it's a business that's done plenty of good for a innumerable amount of people, and also one that trains people to continue beneficial actions for the good of everyone. It's the same reason anyone is proud of their Alma Mater, and maybe even more.
i, as a current Penn State student, am ashamed at the lack of control our university had over this entire scandal. however, i am not now, nor will ever be, ashamed of Penn State as a whole. we are so much more than this scandal. i still love Joe Paterno, that is my own choice. i understand he made the worst mistake possible, but to put it simply, if you're not affiliated with Penn State, you won't ever get it. leave it at that.
I've been in Europe on business for the past month. I just got home, and all of a sudden all the Penn State fans who expressed outrage at the Ohio State tattoo's for memorabilia scandal, and demanded Jim Tressel's resignation have been very quiet lately. Did something happen at your wonderful, and wholesome university? What has gotten into you? I certainly can't be any worse than that awful Ohio State scandal? The Nilttany Lions have class and morals. Unlike those big bad Buckeyes.
@SteveD2326 the grand jury convened in 2009. There's 8 accusers thus far, plus the one that just filed a civil suit claiming hundreds of sexual encounters.
Using a football program as boy-bait. Sandusky's version of "Hey kid, I lost my puppy. Would you help me find it"? That's some serrrrrrrrrriously disturbing shit.
@nic190 Funny how so many people give PSU alumni, students and fans beef because we don't think about the victims enough yet they're the first ones to make jokes about child molestation. For example, this comment.
Yes Sandusky once represented penn state. Yes Joe Paterno once represented penn state. Yes our athletic program represents penn state. but neither DEFINES penn state. We as penn staters are ashamed by those who stained our name with monstrous acts. but does that mean we should lose pride in our school? No. Does that mean we should be ashamed when we sing the Alma Mater? No. If the acts of a handful of people can destroy our love and faith in a dear school, how shallow would that be?
To tell you the truth the whole scandal shouldn't at all revolve around Penn State! If Sandusky was not affiliated with any college, then the whole story would revolve around the victims! why? BECAUSE IT SHOULD. It is the court's responsibility to convict the criminals. Not ours, Not the media's. Our responsibility is do whatever we can to help the victims and to stop things like these to happen again! How shallow are we to focus on reputations wen we pay no attention to the victims?
@SteveD2326 You're absolutely right. How much can one person do?? The people he reported it to chose to do nothing, now JoePa suffers the consequences. NOT okay.
The people making idiotic comments obviously don't go to/don't like PSU for some reason, probably because they are jealous they didn't go there. And they obviously didn't pay any real attention to what actually happened with the scandal.
i think its quite sad that people take the time out of their day finding a video about penn state just to then comment on it in a negative fashion what kind of life do you guys have? Seriously. All of you are just saying these hateful things to make yourself feel better to make yourself feel perfect, possibly just to get you through the day, no ones perfect not even close, now im not condoning what jerry sandusky did to those poor victims but before you open your mouth or type up comments, Think
@SteveD2326 They should donate ALL proceeds for the last 12 years to help stop child abuse. All the years this could have been stopped, yet would have brought shame upon the university. They allegedly slipped it under the rug to preserve profit and "tradition" you seem to waive in people's faces. The tradition you'll be remembered for isn't the one I think your school is speaking of.
@SteveD2326 . what was going through his mind when cop cars DIDNT come screaming up to the school, sirens blazing moments after he "reported it" ? "well. i told my boss" isnt good enough for me, but i care more about stopping little boys from getting raped than i do about football.
It's sick that students at pedifile state university back Joe after he knew about it and didn't go to the police because it was he's best friend . You would think he's moral would make him go to the police not his boss the school need the death penalty
@kyoungin the hell? it only takes ONE PERSON to call 911 .what sort of MAN doesn't take it upon himself to call authorities when he sees the people he reported it to doing nothing.. . FOR 8+ years! . he needs to spend the rest of his life in shame . he chose to put a football program over the saftey of children .. not cool.. not cool at all. its sad for the people who look up to him . he has let them down .. big time ..
WE ARE PENN STATE!!! NOW, YESTERDAY, AND TOMORROW!! It's amazing how many people have so little positive going on in their own lives that they will look up videos on Penn State football just to make mindless comments allowing them to feel better about their own pathetic lives. Penn State will be back...stronger than before!
@TheOrioles93 You're one of the best in the country? You must mean......#45 right? Meaning there are 44 better schools in 50 states. Northwestern actually has a higher graduation rate....... Let me get this straight about Paterno......let's say he was a good man for 80yrs, then murdered someone. Does the fact that was good for so long then not make him a murderer? Take off the rose colored glasses.
I would not want to work for a company that makes sweeping generalizations about students of any university like that. Heck I am a senior at PSU - never met Curley, Shutlz, JoePa or Spanier. I did not even know who Sandusky was until November. Also, deciding not to hire PSU grads is your loss - The NY Times ranked Penn State as the number one school for companies to recruit out of. PSU has top programs in business, engineering and science. Its ranked in the top 50 in the World in research.
i can just tell you didnt read anything. all you know in the case is paterno. espn concentrates on it because it will get them ratings. read the case. just read it. paterno wasnt being charged with perjury.
As a Nebraska fan, you probably (more than the rest of us) realize that Nebraska will only beat Penn State when they have help from the NCAA. For you, the decision to penalize Penn State was not about healing and rebuilding the lives of the victims, but enabling your team to get a cheap win. That's even more pathetic than a cover-up........deriving joy in it.
