My take on Abdul Carter. Penn State needs him more as a DE than a LB because of Lyons not being on the team. Linebacker has better depth and more potential than what Penn State has at DE currently.

Why will the defense be worse? The secondary is better. Kalen King was a massive letdown last year, the guy kept getting burned by people not named Marvin. They lose Dixon and Hardy, they add Harris, Kimber and and improved Miller and Collins. The safetys are better. The interior Dline is the exact same, and better. The edges are about the same, losing chop hurts but DDS is poised to improve and now Carter is there opposite him. Depth at edge is now in question. Lastly The LB room should be far better. You lose Jacobs but you add an Improved Rojas, Kobe King, Keon Wylie and Robinson. Carter clearly played out of his best position last year, he just didn't fit in perfectly at LB, and as you both said is better closer to the ball at edge. Hopefully Eldson isn't a liability anymore, and deluca plays a bit better. I think the defense will be just as good.
